ROBYN:

Robyn waits for her turn to talk then provides the information requested.

"My name is Robyn Lysander, although some of you may know me as Alyce Krait.  I am not sure why Torrent used my real name for this, but there you are and nothing for it now.  The accent I have never been able to get rid of is Russian.  I was born and raised in Vladivostok, Russian Far East.  I moved to London in '36.  I have extensive experience in communications and matrix operations, to include in Below.  I am aware of the noise restrictions there and am prepared to overcome them to make sure that you can maintain communications to the Overworld if you need it.  Most of my field experience has actually been in the field.  In the almost forty years I have been doing this, I have been on many expeditions to some of the most forbidding places on earth, mostly in jungles, swamps, and mountains and have a reputation for holding my own and keeping people alive and in communication with the outside world.  My clients include just about every AAA corporation and many AAs as well as most of the major crime syndicates and I hope that does not bother anyone.  I have significant loyalties and personal ties to EVO Corporation and to the Vory, but what happens on ANY specific team I am employed by stays on that team and my contacts know and respect that.  It would be unprofessional of me to describe any of my missions in detail and I would not expect any of you to want me to violate that trust, but I can provide contact information if anyone wishes to check on some of my bonafides.  Despite any perception of an infirmity, I am a board certified surgeon with specialties in bullet wound trauma and secondary specialties in the repair and replacement of bio and cyber ware.  I will bloody well keep you alive and moving."  She touches the rather obvious tattoo of a seven-headed serpent that covers most of the right side of her face.  "I believe that another reason Torrent recommended me for this is my relationship with the people Below.  I am a ward of the Earl of Below and the Earl's House and as such receive the benefits of the protection that affords me.  This usually means that I have the ability to walk among most of the areas Below without fear of being attacked.  That protection is not universal and there are areas where I would be ill-advised to travel without significant numbers of very deadly companions.  I also have close ties to The Old One; a very influential player in the politics below even though not directly aligned with any of the Houses.  Oh, almost forgot.  I have a skill that may not come into play here, but might.  I am a pretty decent cook and can prepare meals for us to eat from just about anything.  I have a wide range of recipes available and can pretty much satisfy any taste.  I can set a store of foodstuffs if we think that this might take more than a day."

"Assets:  I have a mutated brain that allows me to remember and recall just about everything I have ever seen, heard, done, etc.  It means I have pretty much an improved sort of photographic memory, so be careful what you tell me as I will probably remember it.  I have a very good medkit that can assist me, as well as a number of stim, trauma, and antidote patches I can use to keep people moving in an emergency until I get a chance to take a good look at them.  I have an exceptional set of implanted sensory enhancements that allow me to compensate for my blindness and can hear, smell, taste and feel far better than most people can.  I also have implanted ultrasound and radar sensors that allow me to have a very good view of the area around me and can peek through most walls.  I have a very good deck and commlink implanted and I think that the software and module packages are very good, but I would be very happy to consult with any of you to compare notes on hacking and matrix security.  Speaking of which, I would certainly recommend considering linking some of your devices to my deck or to my or someone's commlink so as to gain the protection of a good firewall unless your own is very good.  I use two micro drones as my eyes about, as it were.  They provide me with sensory data that I can access almost as if I were seeing things.  I would dearly like to communicate with Halfpint and anyone else that uses drones so that we can get a good security system organized without duplicating our efforts.  I have and can bring with us a customized Mule.  This will allow us to carry a good bit of supplies and equipment at a decent pace and can certainly provide a means of transporting me if I need to go into VR for any reason while we are in motion, thus preventing others from having to carry an unconscious body about, which can be quite a chore.  This can certainly work in conjunction with the Mule offered by the Johnson.  Finally, but certainly not least, I have my own Al.  It is certainly unplanned that he and his namesake should be in the same team, but there it is.  He is a trained guardian and service animal.  For those without knowledge of this great beast, he is dual natured, which means that he can see and act against threats in the astral as well as the meat world.  He is definitely not your normal chase-the-stick sort of pet, so please do not mistake him for one.  I would not advise not trying to pet him, although he does seem to accept my touch.  Also, if anyone here has not yet allowed him to get a good sniff, please do, as that will keep him from jumping to my defense if you happen to be getting too close."

"Negatives:  No lies, I have several.  Certainly my blindness can be an issue, mainly in how people perceive me.  I have few if any skills that could be considered combat oriented and do not pretend to have any.  My services are advertised as strictly support, and Torrent knows that, so the rest of you must be the muscle here.  It is possible to act as a combat hacker, but my experience in doing that is limited and it would be wrong to assume it of me for planning purposes.  Certainly, I can affect a battle with enough prior work by neutralizing some of the enemy capabilities, but a spur of the moment engagement is not my long suit.  Also, while my affiliation with the Earl's House is mostly a positive thing, it can also work against us.  I am sure it comes as no big surprise that the thirteen Houses are not always in agreement.  I also have personal issues with House Valerian due to an unfortunate incident with their Mistress.  I interceded in her torture of a very close and personal friend and was tortured myself for about fourteen hours.  Without getting into the extremely gruesome details, let's just say that it was unpleasant.  We escaped and earned the anger of Melissa and her House in the process.  The torture has left me with the slight limp I am sure all of you have noticed but have been polite enough to not mention.  I use a cane to walk with, but do not consider it a major disability.  Additionally, my friend disappeared shortly after rescuing me and I fear some sort of misconduct on the part of Melissa.  Going Below may attract more attention to you because I am present and is something to consider."

"It should be noted that I do share some experiences with two of us here.  Iris is a close associate that has been helping me find my missing friend.  I have grown to rely on her talents and advice like a sister and friend.  But like sisters, we do have our small disagreements.  Be aware, though, that also like sisters, we can stand together against a common foe.  And I know Al from an expedition we were both on in Cambodia in '68.  We grew to have a significant appreciation of each other's talents.  I would put my life in his hands at any time without any question and know that he could get me through.  He is a truly stand-up guy and a loyal friend.  I have missed his presence since we separated and could have used him on any of the expeditions I have been on since.  And before too many of you ask, yes, I named my Hell Hound guardian after Al Guthrie here."

"So, I know that was bloody long-winded.  Any questions for me?"

Jackhammer looked at Iris, then around at everyone else and shrugged. He knew that somebody had to "fit in" down there in the below, but his entire experience had been that the people there were batdrek insane, and all but a few clowns and a hotel owner that he'd met had at some point assaulted him or his team. And frankly, he figured, they ought to be grateful that none of them had been bludgeoned to death. In fact, he couldn't actually remember killing any of them. That thought made him a twinge regretful, and he began to ponder on what he could have, or should have, done differently. Then he washed the thought away with another drink.

He looked at Iris impassively. He wasn't totally sure, but it sounded like she might have threatened him. She had a stick she seemed fond of, but it didn't look too special. And of course she said she had a knife. But when it came to crazy women with knives, Jackhammer considered himself somewhat of an expert. In fact, one such anecdote was the whole reason he knew better than to get involved with women who looked... like that. Of course, he'd never met a woman who did that whole look quite like this one, so he certainly didn't mind letting his eyes linger. He smirked and looked back towards Robyn as his thoughts were overtaken by amusing scenes of this Iris girl trying to put a knife where it counts.

Once Robyn had finished speaking, Jackhammer looked to Al and back to her. "Group Safari with Al I guess? I didn't think shadow runners lived that long after entering the business. I guess she's the girl for the job. And I guess Al is... durable." Jackhammer mused to himself. He thought for a moment, digging for a good question, not wanting to waste an opportunity to engage Robyn. As he looked around for some salted nuts to chew on, it came to him. "Do you know how to make dumplings? That's my favorite."

Iris blushed slightly and nodded at Robyn's detailed inventory of her skills, assets, and liabilities. "That does remind me," she began, "as Deckard here has no doubt surmised by now, I have a number of sustaining spells attached to me, and the wand he is currently holding as well as this," she bent at the hips, drawing a long knife that appeared modeled after a slim-bladed cougar fineblade, "do make me rather obvious astrally." Iris rotated the spellblade across her knuckles and proffered it to Deckard, her gaze still on Jackhammer and the challenge still clear in her eyes as she continued, "I can hide physically, but magical perception is an easy way to ferret me out. I can sleaze past wards and barriers, and I can render my aura unreadable and untraceable, but I cannot render it invisible."

The knife Iris handed Deckard was modest, as weapon foci went, nothing like the stunning wand she'd handed him. It was based on the cougar model it appeared to be, but there were embellishments, such as the chimera-leather wrapped around the hilt and the carvings in the blade. There were seven of them, single glyphs or runes inlaid with powdered or crushed gemstone: ruby, citrine, topaz, emerald, sapphire, amethyst, and onyx from hilt to tip on both sides. It was rainbow color scale, province of the goddess from which Iris took her street name. The wand was black wood, ebony or dark-stained hawthorne and the hair-fine carvings were inlaid with ivory and amber.Only a small white spot at the tip betrayed the composition of its core, a spindle of bone barely thicker than a needle that she'd paid dearly to have from a dragon's skeleton.

Straightening up, Iris said, "Without my wand, additionally, I am limited in my combat magics. I can stun, and I can rot the flesh from an enemy's bones with a touch, or cause pain or ecstasy with a word, but I cannot hurl lightning bolts, large explosions, or lances of death without my tools."

Al listened and smoked as his new coworkers outlined their qualifications.

Figured he'd better do the same.

"Reckon y'all know my name. I know karate. Voodoo too. An' I'm gonna make myself available to you."

He shrugged.

"'Nuff said."

I'm here to provide eyes and ears. And big guns. But only if we need them. I'm a rigger and will be bringing a recon fleet and fire support. Never been much of a brawler, given my size an' all but when I'm on the job, I'm usually in my cocoon. My gear ain't subtle, but it packs enough punch to collapse a tunnel or 6 if shit hits the fan. I've worked underground so know how to navigate and how to survive down there if we end up off the beaten path.

Iris sighed through her nose. It was going to take some work to drill home that collapsing the tunnels was more likely to get every single one of them and a whole lot of bystanders killed than to do what they intended, whatever that was. "I'd refrain from High Explosive loads, at least to start, sir." She told Halfpint, not indelicately. "Again, a tunnel collapse would be bad. Damage to the surface, damage to below, dozens of dead civilians, and a cascading collapse that buries all of us are things we want to avoid, I think."

She turned to Isaint, who had been elected the team's leader, it seemed. "It behooves me to point this out again. Most of the people below are just people. Not monsters, not shadowrunners, not villains. People. I am here for a job, and I will do that job to the utmost, but I will not countenance wanton slaughter of noncombatants." She looked around the table fiercely. "If you have a problem with that, then say so now so that I may return my portion of the fee to Mr. Johnson and be on my way."

my dear, I'm no fool. A situation where a tunnel collapse is a good idea is not usually one where damage to property is usually a higher concern than putting several hundred tons of rock between you and something you'd rather not be dismembered by. It is not going to be high on my to do list, I'm merely stating we have the capability, should we need it. Energy weapons and ballistics are my preferred modalities

Iris ground her teeth but didn't reply to the vaguely condescending words immediately. She wanted to, oh how she wanted to!

It was a good thing, she reflected ruefully, that Deckard was holding her wand.

After some few seconds Iris managed to unclench her jaw enough to grate out, "I am not your 'dear.' I am well aware of what I look like. It is as much a tool as your machines are to you." A sharp comment rose unbidden to her tongue, but she shut her jaw with a click, closing her opalescent eyes for a moment and exhaling slowly. When they opened again, they were almost ophidian, and her voice was perfectly level. Conversational, even.

"You may call me Iris, or Juliet, or Ms. Rhodos, or even 'you' if you so desire." She told Halfpint in her awful-calm way. "But I'll not be talked down to by you. I have worked very hard to get where I am, and to call me your dear when in a professional setting smacks of condescension, sexism, or worse, sir." Another deep breath, another exhalation. "As I said, it is the people I am concerned with, not the property, though you may find tunnels originally dug as bunkers or cut and warded by the houses to be harder to dismantle than you seem to believe."

"Let's just all agree to not blow drek up or kill anybody without a good reason, huh?" Jackhammer offered, trying to move things past this whole defense of the home turf Iris seemed to be taking. "So that's all of us. You drone collectors go talk to each other while the rest of us figure out some routes and precautions. That means Iris, Deckard, and Al, you're with me." He clearly expected everyone else to get up and gather around him, which didn't seem unreasonable as he was clearly already comfortable. "And don't forget to share commcodes if you haven't already." While he waited for the others to move, he turned to his 'link and looked for a food menu. "All this drinking is making me hungry."

Iris raised an eyebrow at Jackhammer, snorted slightly, and turned to Isaint. "Mr. Isaint," she began, deliberately turning her back on Jackhammer, "you seem to have the most incisive tactical mind here, and you're the common link with the Johnson and several of the team." She nodded respectfully to him, then asked, "What would you have us do?" After she asked ehr question, Iris glanced at Deckard to see if he was still examining her foci, and she made sure to keep her hands free, but inside her cloak.

Al was glad some of this crap was getting sorted now rather than later, and he was silently assigning psycho points in varying amounts to various individuals, simultaneously congratulating himself on his equanimity, rationality, objectivity, and level-headedness.

He didn't really feel like moving, but then her rarely did. And nothing was going to make him disrespect Jackhammer. He got up and moved over a couple of seats to sit next to the huge ork.

Then some servers came in with big, tasty-looking pies, and he grabbed one and told them to bring one for him. Damned AR menus.

Robyn smiles at the Ork.  "Yes, I can make dumplings.  I have several recipes that I can try for you.  Perhaps I can cook us all a nice celebratory meal when this is all done."

Beyond that small conversation, Robyn is content to just listen,  She is surprised that no one raised an issue about her qualifications.  Pleased, but surprised.  It does not take someone with her enhanced senses to see that there are some personality issues forming in the group.  This team is not what she is used to, to say the least.  There should be a team leader and a second and everyone else falls into their assigned role.  What is happening here is a bit confusing.  Clearing her voice, she says, "Please excuse me.  Since no one objects, it seems that I may assume the role of comms and matrix security, plus chief medic and bottle washer.  As such, I would like it if everyone passed their comm codes to me before we leave here today.  I will pass out what is needed.  May I ask to whom I am to report?  I am used to having a team leader and second.  Is that something we can decide here?"

Well that was just amazing. First Deckard wasn't expecting Iris would ever part from such an artifact and it did install a degree of trust, which he respected and appreciated. He inspected the wand, twisting it in his and holding it up or in line with his eye, the wood, the finish, the ivory, the bone inside... perfectly craft. But on the Astral it was just pouring power. More than most awaken shadowrunners could actually deliver. And if he heard her well, it was also used as fetish for her combat spell. He was well familiar with fetishes, as he had learned a few spell requiring specific small object to be cast. Most viewed it as a limitation, he understood it was a way to channel more power into a spell. And more power on top of what the focus itself could provide made Iris a deadly combatant.  She was underplaying but that was all part of the game.... He had his own Power Focus. The chain he was wearing around his neck may look like a regular military dog-tags, but a closer inspection would reveal intricate carvings and the insertion of jade stones. It's power was nothing spectacular but plenty enough for Deckard to enhance his Magic.

Busy salivating over the wand, he could hear what the others were arguing about, but simply wasn't listening.

When his attention came back to the ongoing discussion, he noticed Jackhammer had just called him and Al and Isis. Once the sorceress turned to face him, he  send the wand back at her adding a simple: Very impressive, thank you.

He looked around noticing there has been some arguing, but couldn't figure out what. Seeing Al getting closer to Jackhammer and remembering his name had been called, he too scooped over closer to the huge Ork, and sent Robyn his comm code.

Robyn smiles at Deckard.  "Thank you, sir."  Looking up at Iris she adds, "I already have your code unless you are going to change it?"

Al flashed his commcode at Robyn, adding <<By the way, even in that hippy get-up, ya look great.>>

Her idea about a team leader was the best he'd heard all night. He'd thought it himself on every job he'd done since getting into this preposterous line of work.

"Team leader's Isaint," he said aloud. "Second's whoever he picks...long as it ain't me."
