If my character got spurs, what would the downtime be on surgery like that? Do they anchor the implant to bone? Medical treatment has to be well advanced sixty years ITF but there still has to be DT.

Core pg 451, Cybersurgery and Recovery Time
Quote
Getting cyberware and bioware installed hurts. When you have an augmentation implanted (after character creation), your Physical and Stun Condition Monitors each take a number of boxes of damage equal to the item’s Essence Cost x 3 (but never into overflow). Most cyber-clinics and body shops offer recovery rooms for patients to rest and heal up after cybersurgery, but beware the sterility and cleanliness of the less-reputable chop shops.
Clearly that math sounds better if you're using bigger examples, like getting a full Arm or Leg replacement, or getting Rating 3 Wired Reflexes over the weekend.

Spurs are only 0.3 Essence, which comes out to 0.9 (I'd just call it 1) box of Stun and Physical. So not a whole lot of downtime by that math. However, story-wise I would say you can't do a whole lot with your hands or arms for a little while at least. You did just get Wolverine claws implanted into your hands and forearms, after all.

Given that medical technology is sufficient to even have all these implants available, I'd say no more than two or three days for a set of Spurs. It might still be a bit sore for a while longer, but I don't see it causing damage (or penalties) after a few days.

If you're talking about getting implants done during downtime, sure. By the time the Fixer has another job for you guys, you're good to go.

The downtime damage stuff in the book is more for when the Fixer says "Alright, here are your plane tickets. You've got a couple hours before your flight leaves." And so the Street Sam pipes up and says "Is there enough time for me to get a complete Chrome overhaul?" Then you look at them and say "Uhh, sure? But the team will be pushing you through the rest of the mission in a wheelchair."

I was quite surprised how short it was. Had it come up in a recent session, runner got his new implants late morning, I knew a contact was calling with a rush job at six. Doesn't take long to fix one box of damage with Magic!

I think if I was house ruling it now I'd say that the process included magical and normal healing to get it that low, so only natural healing from now on. He'd have still been fine with 1 box of damage down.

No reason to do this whatsoever. It takes long enough to get new stuff--be it through money or karma--any additional time added is unnecessary.

Yeah, also this.

Now if you have runs or something every other day, scheduling it might be hard, and you might go through a number of runs before your fixer gets ahold of it, but I don't see much value in a post-install time tax.

This is a problem with balance , not story .
yes it takes a long time , especially because of the recommended run rewards,
this should not mean that one can go under the knife and not even feel it a bit .
(do what you want in your game however , most of sr5 core is handwave-me plz territory anyway)
what you can do however is say that the cost of surgery is calculated in the base price.
