Okay, so I read through Shockwaves, and the section on Proteus AG in 4E's Corporate Guide. Previously I'd only ever read the Corporate Guide bit on them, plus one other section in another 4E book that had some fluff about one of their Aquacologies(something about workers basically living as psuedo-slaves in the lowest levels, etc, can't remember what book it was).
So, some relevant comments and questions. Putting a spoiler tag in just in case anyone doesn't want info.
So yeah, Shockwaves. Holy Drek. I realized the AA was involved in various technological conspiracies, but I didn't think that the actual FOUNDING OF THE MEGA was itself a conspiracy. And the whole bit about having hidden spies in numerous other megacorps, a board of directors that are essentially high-tech bunraku-style puppets, the extent of the conflict with ARES...Jesus. THIS is the stuff I love about Shadowrun, that there is the basic level of info, the conspiracy you discover that seems pretty dark and dangerous...and then deeper down at the bottom, there's a whole other level of scary going on.
Honestly, it makes me wish I spoke German so I could read the whole Schockwellen book, because I know just from the English summary that there's a lot of juicy extra info in there.
So, as I understand it, the puppet board of directors were all killed, Proteus paid a bunch of reparations to the companies it had been spying on/embedded in, and most of the spies(not all though) were rooted out and dealt with. Kevin Goldammer and the Prometheus Group are now back in charge with him as CEO, and he's taking it back in a transhumanist/Uber-SOTA direction(I saw mention of research into terraforming and space habitation, artificial biospheres, genetweaking and DNA writing, and dark-matter experiments), and while the corp's methods aren't as unethical and immoral as they were under his sister, they're still pretty unorthodox and secretive(I.E. they still experiment with super-weird fringe stuff, and ethical contraints are more of a grey area than a solid line).
Also, as of one of the 5E books, I believe it was mentioned that in late 2075/early 2076(shaky on time), Proteus was reacting to the CFD threat by locking down all of its Aquacologies and holdings, and security on them is SUPER tight. Like, completely sealed from the outside other than multiple layers of security checkpoints and screenings tight. Which makes sense, seeing as how they haven't given up ambitions to challenge or surpass other rivals in underwater and space habitation, as well as any number of bio/cyber/gene/nano/etc augmentation and design.
Anyways, thanks again to Crimsondude for posting the Shockwaves PDF, I love the info in there. I think for my campaign, I'll use the unfinished Arkoblock south of the CAS as sort of the plot catalyst, since it's speculated by people on Jackpoint in the fluff that it may not be 100% abandoned or empty. Sounds like the perfect place for a technologically-advanced AA Megacorp to house some secret Cyberzombie research in preparation for challenging ARES', EVO's, and SK's dominance of space and underwater real-estate.
