Well, OK, I allowed them to when I ran Deadlands.

But never when I run Paranoia.
Nobody messes with the GM when playing Paranoia....

Ahhh, those were fun days. I wonder where my book is for that?  ??? Hmmmm.......

It seems as If I needed a few more Points converting old SR3 Chars
or I use the 750 Karma option from Runners Compendium
Now, with the new 4A Rules they're really well balanced (which they weren't with the old rules)

I'm a big fan of the 750 Karma rules....
...using 500karma on the race (Free Spirit) kinda sucks them away, but with 250karma you can get a slightly better build than with 150BP

I give 400BP and some free stuff: ([Charisma + Intuition]*3)BP worth of Contacts and the following free skills at level 2:

  • Computer
  • Data Search
  • Dodge
  • Etiquette
  • Infiltration
  • Perception
  • One of Blades, Clubs, Pistols, Thrown Weapons and Unarmed Combat

That way they have at least functional competence at the key bits of being a shadowrunner (based on the stuff in Runner's Companion).  If they want to buy the relevant skill groups, they get an appropriate discount but have to buy them up to level 2 to start with.

So the most any player in my game started with was 492BP, and the least was 474BP.
