I just finished "The Last Ditch" by Sandy Mitchell.  Its a Ciaphas Cain novel.

Anyone have any recommendations for or against "Cryptonomicon" or the Silent Empire collection? I read "Doomsday Vault" by Steven Harper who authored the Silent Empire series and liked it fairly well, so I'm leaning that direction. I have never read anything by Neal Stephenson.

I enjoyed Diamond Age and have tried to get through Snow Crash several times.  I would give Cryptonomicon a try though Stephenson can be a real hit or miss author.  Please let me know what you think of it.

Maybe it just needs more writers that came from the streets.

Well, since it was defined by yupie intelectual originaly, that street feeling maybe disapperared because of current cyberpunk is more Experience/reality based than Image/impression oriented.
That doesnt mean I dont love Gibsons books. Well, maybe About Pattern Recognition I was a bit disapointed, because it seems to me that it Lacked some kind of interresting point Im used to get from books..even from P. K. Dick... well maybe I just missed that.
