Is there a way to "shield" the contents of your cyberarm like you can shield a smuggling compartment on a vehicle so that cyberscanners can tell you have a cyberarm but not that you have a gyromount or cybergun or other forbidden addition to the arm?

I personally like the houserule that's the case normally i.e. they can't see "through" the cyberlimb and see what's in it.  But that's just a houserule.

The detailed data on the millimeter wave detection system  says they can see through thick layers of cloth. It doesnt specify that it can see through the metal casing on the cyberarm to see the internal accessories on the arm. I have a hard time understanding how this sensor can see the internal functionality and features tucked into the complex metal workings of an obvious cyberarm based on the idea that it can see through clothing.

It's based on the same tech that can see through 6-inch thick blast doors.

As to the machine pistol, it's still availability 14 :-/

Avail 14 isn't that bad.  Sure you can't start with it, but any halfway decent face should be able to find it.  Or pay a big markup and get a contact to get it.  It's pretty cheap overall (2000Y).  Unless your pay is truly terrible, you should be able to afford it on the first run (along with armor 3 which you ought to get ASAP).

Generally, my table at least is treating illegal equipment in a cyberlimb (a spur in my case) as being very difficult to tell from the other workings of the limb on a casual scan, requiring first hitting the threshold to detect it then needing a Cybertechnology test to determine exactly what is installed within the limb. (Same for restricted things, like smartlinks in a cybereye).

Cyberware scanners find everything. They are not actually cyberware scanners - they are millimeter wave radar, and they can find any and all items, including plastic guns, knives, commlinks, etc; there's nothing you can do except hack them.

Not to get too technical, but if they are millimeter wave scanners, they wouldn't tell you anything about what's inside a person, much less a cyberlimb.

Those airport scanners are millimeter wave...they don't penetrate solid objects.

Now, if your GM is X-raying everyone that walks into every nightclub in Seattle, that could be an issue. Of course, your medic better be a decent oncologist.  :D

I know that the Cyberscanners in SR4A are pretty uber - I'm just curious as to how they work without seriously irradiating your target.

I have no clue how it works, and I'm sure that whichever author wrote it didn't either. But the item, in-game, totally can see through solid objects.

Gives me an Idea... :o

My next Face character is going to have a Johnny Cochrane-esque Contact...a powerful lawyer/ambulance chaser who is a household name.

Security: "Step through the scanner."

PC: "That thing? No way. It could damage my DNS lookup tables...and chronothingies...and stuff."

Security: "Step through the scanner. NOW."

PC, holding up commlink: "I have the executive partners of Hookum, Snookum, & Nod on speed dial. Does the phrase 'class action' mean anything to you?"

Security: "*Gulp!* Move along."

It started out as a PC for my group when I was starting out GMing.  An attempt to build a character who was a SINner that was a Lawyer by Day, Shadowrunner by night to get evidence or funding for pro bono cases.  In addition, the Gubernatorial Elections really polarized the character as well.  As the Player and I worked on it, we suddenly went, "No, can't be done as a player, but makes a Killer Contact!", so we now have a Lawyer that is willing to work with Shadowrunners and SINless.

He's also a low-powered Snake Shaman.  [Insert Lawyer Joke Here]

EDIT:  Underbridge also sells budget furniture designed for Trolls and other large Metahumans and Non-Metahuman Sentient types.  He uses Foamcrete, recycled steel, and ex-convicted labor to keep costs down and rehabilitate people, making him a pillar of the community.  His office (The top floor of a warehouse where his furniture factory is) is just inside Puyallup, near the tri-area of Tacoma, Auburn, and Puyallup.  He has a team of professional investigators hired full time, and will hire Shadowrunners to hunt after evidence if it's been hidden (Or thought to be destroyed) as well as find, protect, and deliver witnesses to the courthouse.

You do know the difference between a Vampire and Lawyer, right?

One is a soulless, blood-sucking monster...

...and the other can turn into a bat!

*Bah-dum chik!*

Thank you...thank you...

Drat! Now I have to roll up a Vampire Laywer when I get home! GAH! *shakes fist at the uncaring skies*

The scanner needs five successes (on six dice at best in the standard book)  to see through a coat sleeve and find a deltaware obvious cyberlimb and only 1 success to see through a metal standard cyberlimb to spot the gyromount concealed within. Is it just me or do the rules on this tech make absolutely zero sense?

I've always assumed they run off the blood of technomancers or something since they clearly work off of Not-Magic.  ;D

Sweet! That actually clarifies a few things.

Do the batteries have to be refrigerated, then?  ;D
