Ok, so this is going to be my first sr character... I have an idea of what I want him to be but I'm just learning the ins and outs. I'm not if its important but I have a very strong d&d 3.5 background.

The character id like to make is the ultimate (almost)fully decked out bioware and weapon slinger hitman. He apears to be a cathlic(some reason that doesn't look right....) priest and that's his cover. Id like him to be human and the bp is set to 500.

The reason I'm posting this is..... well.... I don't know the game nearly as well as the rest of you and I could really use the help...

If at all maxing would be nice(even though I'm not sure if its possible for sr)

Maxing is indeed possible in SR  ;)

Try looking at this thread:
http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=4495.0

Umaru has build some awesome 400 BP characters optimized for missions scenarios.

It should be possible to go from there. The Ronin is a good alround combat specialist with a lot of cyberware.

Restricting yourself to bioware will make it difficult to start overwhelmingly powerful. A mix of bio and cyberwear offers a better cost (bolth in money and essence) benefit trade off.

Catholic is how you spell that. :) If you get a new version of Chrome or Firefox, you can get real time spell checking. Anything underlined in red, just right click on it for suggestions.

With 500 BP, the biggest problem for your bioenhnaced character is going to be the availability and cost of bioware. You will have to spend quite a few points to get rating 2+ Synaptic Boosters, for example, if you want to have several IP.

So, my tips for aiming for an ultimate warrior:

Pick a weapon skill he specializes in and buy it at rating 6, with an appropriate specialty. For example Automatics 6 (Assault Rifle). This cost 26BP and makes your character massively skilled, but only with that weapon class. Similarly, you may wish to get Doge at 6 with (Ranged Attacked) as a specialty.

Increase your Reaction, Body and Agility to 5 "soft capping" them.  It cost much more for the last point to max them out, so you probably won't want to.

Muscle Toner, Synaptic Boosters and Platelet factories are good choices for initial bioware. The first increases your offensive ability, the second lets you act more often in combat and increases your defensive ability, and the last makes you tougher, reducing the overall damage you take.

Not to preach, and I hope this doesn't bother you.. but you might want to reconsider trying to make an ultimate character. Being more powerful won't necessarily make the character more fun to play.

With 500 BP it should be possible to take Aptitude with you weapon skill of choice making it a possible 7 + a speciality.

And yes, you should really combine cyberware with bioware. Cyberware is cheaper in nuyen but often harder on your essence. If you want lots of cyberware start with adapsin treatment (genetech) for a 10 % reduction in essence cost from cyberware.

A specialist is the most efficient way to build a character, but never put all your eggs in one basket and talk with you GM about the power level of the game before deciding on your build.
Also as a hitman you would need skills for B&E, infiltration and Perception. Maybe som Demolitions for high profile statements  ;)

And remember things like armor and willpower to keep your character alive.

I think pure Bioware is ok, makes cyberware scanners go zZzZ.

Synaptic Booster 2
Muscle Toner 2 (or 4 with Restricted Gear quality )
Muscle Augmentation 2 (or 4 with Restricted Gear quality )
Enhanced Articulation
Suprathyroid Gland with Restricted Gear quality
=> should be doable with the Born Rich quality or the Blackmarket Pipeline quality or used bioware or a combination of the three.

I would add Cybereyes, they're legal and very common

later on during the campaign one would want to add Platelet Factories, Trauma Damper, Bone Density Augmentation and/or Orthoskin

PS: I read some arguments whether the Blackmarket Pipeline quality discount is available at chargen or not. I vote for yes.

Just for informational purposes, you can get an add-on for IE that provides spell checking.  I'm not sure about IE7 but it's available for IE8/9 for sure.

I wouldn't go for cybereyes or cyberears.
They cost essence and quit a lot of nuyen.
It is cheaper just to get glasses/lenses and ear buds.

You can't drop eyes by accident, though but I think that is a minor nieche.

Going bioware-only is a sensible move as certain types of Adept, not a sensible move as a mundane. With 500 bp, you could probably make a solid physical/social adept with bioware enhancement - I would suggest a mash-up of the Gunslinger and the Negotiator from my sig.

kind of what I want to do with my character is have him be a surronding specialist. He would have thermo vision and true ultrasound.

His role in the party would be:

"Hey, preacherman! We finally made it into the building with the guy we have to assassinate. There any guards near by?" Asked thok the troll via commlink

"Let's see," father o'henry activated his bioware thermo vision and saw there were 5 heat signatures in the room infront of them, 3 in the room to the left, and 5 in the room to the right. He then dropped the bible he had in his hand and activated his ultrasound. He the noticed there where 2 down the hall walking towards them.

He put a trip wire bomb on the door to the left and one on the right. He then opened the door infront of them and through a grenade into the room and closed the door.

The people in the other 2 roooms opened the door and activiated the tripwire bombs, The guards down the hall and began to run at them, the father could hear their running and tossed an anti-bioware(can't think of the word) bomb to deactivate both of the guards bioware legs. He then walked up to the stunnded guards and shot them both."nope. There's no guards." He said aloud th thok.

Sorry for the long story. That's the easiest wayfor me to explain my character idea o.o

Oh and I'm using my cell. Don't have the net at home so bad spelling and all come witht that.

well. EVERY runner has thermovision. 2 metavariants have it naturally and for everyone else it costs 100Y. And every other Sam has a Radar sensor in one of his limbs or head.
Maybe you have the wrong idea of SR?

the only reason, why team members would specifically ask someone what he sees, is either an astral mage, a camera hacker, a rigger with drones all over the place, or a Perceptive adept I once tried with 25 dice in Perception. He really sees more than the rest of the group.

Now if that preacher had echolocation, increased hearing sensitivity, and vocal range enhancement bioware to make a bio-ultrasound radar it could have a lot of sneaky uses.

And on the anti-bioware bomb, you meant to say 'anti-cyberware' in which case you were probably thinking of an EMP grenade.

Now it seems you just want that atypical super-adept-thats-totally-cool-and-can-do-everything-better-than-anyone-else persona.  It's going to require a lot of karma my friend, many have tried, and few have suceeded.
