I'll agree about /dev/grrl. She's what 17 and a corp kid, how did she get wrapped up in the shadows so fast?
I've also been interested in learning more about Traveler Jones and Red Anya.
She's 17? From listening to people talk, I imagined younger.
Well, /dev/grrl was 14 or 15 when she first appeared, so she's grown quite a bit as a character and a runner, but it's not always clear.
One of the things I wanted to mention in Samantha Roth's profile in SOTA73 is that her daughter is /dev/grrl's age, and has been sharing similar experiences since Roth inked her deal with Erika (NeoNET) especially now that they are even "looking" at the same colleges (/dev/grrl was working in DeeCee [referenced in
Conspiracy Theories] and her cover was that she was visiting Georgetown and GW), and I would like to play with how they interact as a ruthless Ms. Johnson and a constantly-underestimated shadowrunner.
But, yeah, it's also just how things go. It happens a lot IRL. The other message board I used to visit more often is filled with people who are mostly college-aged, and I've come to feel like and joke about being Old Man Meiers. But sometimes it isn't a joke, and it just comes out that way. There's a huge Transformers fan on the board who is cool to talk to, but I stopped playing with and caring for Transformers before she was born, and I'm 32. A lot of the members of JackPoint are in the late thirties or forties, and a handful are known to be in their fifties (The Smiling Bandit, and Rigger X), sixties (Thorn, Fianchetto), or even seventies (FastJack) and have been running for most of if not her entire life, including Slamm-0!. It's not simply an age thing, but an experience and perspective thing.

Yeah, she's 17, which is young for the group (Slamm-0! and NetCat are the next youngest, being in their mid-20s, IIRC.). She's also fairly naive due to her Corporate Upbringing, which is why she might seem younger.
Puck is in his late twenties, and Slamm-0! and NetCat are my age. The youngest aside from Puck (I forget exactly how old he is offhand) is probably Kia, who was 27 in Street Legends.
But CanRay makes a good point, which applies to the preceding paragraphs, that she's still a corp brat. She's not fighting the system, playing neo-A radical, or engaged in a cause. Her actions are similarly vague as, of all people, FastJack. She's a prodigy; she's fucking brilliant almost beyond measure. However, she is young and inexperienced and not quite engaged in being a badass runner. Doing the runs is almost a hobby, it often seems, or else she'd have given up her cushy life as a corp brat.
