I'll agree about /dev/grrl. She's what 17 and a corp kid, how did she get wrapped up in the shadows so fast?
Hanging out in the wrong parts of the Matrix, with the wrong kind of friends, bad influences all!

And now she's got Kane, of all people, as a mentor. Girl is gonna either be dead or a legend by the time the 2080 hits.

*pout* Some people are just lucky, I did that and all I got was an incredibly high brain bleach bill.

Also, the Halla(Shalla?) it was mentioned in I think Street Magic to have returned.

Edit- About Kane, like I said lucky. So so lucky *pouts*

Hackers often start young, especially intelligent, bored kids who have the money for good tech and programs, and parents who are too busy to do oversight.

And that's IRL.  When Megacorps teach people to "work from home, so you can spend time with the family without feeling like you're neglecting your corporation", it'd be much worse!

It would make extractions infinitely easier though. Easier to nab someone at home than in a corporate office enclave WEE-OOH, WEE-OOH!

I've also been interested in learning more about Traveler Jones and Red Anya.

She's 17? From listening to people talk, I imagined younger.

Yeah, she's 17, which is young for the group (Slamm-0! and NetCat  are the next youngest, being in their mid-20s, IIRC.).  She's also fairly naive due to her Corporate Upbringing, which is why she might seem younger.

Hmm...sounds like a good protege for Predator.  8)

Except I'm pretty sure they caught him. There was an entire series about it on TV.  ;D

Well, /dev/grrl was 14 or 15 when she first appeared, so she's grown quite a bit as a character and a runner, but it's not always clear.

One of the things I wanted to mention in Samantha Roth's profile in SOTA73 is that her daughter is /dev/grrl's age, and has been sharing similar experiences since Roth inked her deal with Erika (NeoNET) especially now that they are even "looking" at the same colleges (/dev/grrl was working in DeeCee [referenced in Conspiracy Theories] and her cover was that she was visiting Georgetown and GW), and I would like to play with how they interact as a ruthless Ms. Johnson and a constantly-underestimated shadowrunner.

But, yeah, it's also just how things go. It happens a lot IRL. The other message board I used to visit more often is filled with people who are mostly college-aged, and I've come to feel like and joke about being Old Man Meiers. But sometimes it isn't a joke, and it just comes out that way. There's a huge Transformers fan on the board who is cool to talk to, but I stopped playing with and caring for Transformers before she was born, and I'm 32. A lot of the members of JackPoint are in the late thirties or forties, and a handful are known to be in their fifties (The Smiling Bandit, and Rigger X), sixties (Thorn, Fianchetto), or even seventies (FastJack) and have been running for most of if not her entire life, including Slamm-0!. It's not simply an age thing, but an experience and perspective thing.

Puck is in his late twenties, and Slamm-0! and NetCat are my age. The youngest aside from Puck (I forget exactly how old he is offhand) is probably Kia, who was 27 in Street Legends.

But CanRay makes a good point, which applies to the preceding paragraphs, that she's still a corp brat. She's not fighting the system, playing neo-A radical, or engaged in a cause. Her actions are similarly vague as, of all people, FastJack. She's a prodigy; she's fucking brilliant almost beyond measure. However, she is young and inexperienced and not quite engaged in being a badass runner. Doing the runs is almost a hobby, it often seems, or else she'd have given up her cushy life as a corp brat.

Umm.  Kane is a man who spent a decade becoming the worlds most renown pirate, pissed off most of the countries and corporations in the world, and amassed a large fortune, all for the goal of rescuing a woman he loved who went missing.

Kane has one line, and one line only that he won't cross.  And that's cheating on Kat.

I agree. Kane won't cheat on Kat. Now a threesome? That's another question entirely.

Yep... nothing says "True Love" quite like riding to the rescue with "A couple Eagles, a Eurofighter, two Banshees, a couple Stonewalls, and about three hundred mercs, including almost the entirety of the Free Marine Corps."

Although, part of me has to wonder if he couldn't have just bought her free for a tiny fraction of that, given that they were already willing to trade her back before Fed-Boeing started raising a stink.
