...or, Aiyaaaa! I have been wanting to run a Hong Kong-based campaign. Looking for a group of 4-5 adventurers to traipse about southeast Asia.

The Rules

400 BP +10 for contacts. Anything from the SR4 source material is acceptable, though I'd prefer you stay away from exotic metatypes. Please provide a detailed and interesting description/background.

I'll be using background info from Runner Havens. If anyone doesn't have this book I'll be glad to provide some basic info on 2070s Hong Kong. Note that your character need not be from Hong Kong or even Asia. This is a place where shadow folk worldwide come together.

I plan on making at least one big post to move the game along at least twice a week, or maybe more if players participate more frequently. Likewise, I'd like players to try to make at least two posts per week, say one around the middle and one on a weekend, though this is flexible.

I am very interested. I could try and work up a character--I'm relieved to finally see another 'all sources open' start up.  That said, it won't be anything too off-the-wall or ridiculous (got that out of my system with another one). I'll be going in for surgery (believe out-patient) tomorrow, so it might take me some time to get a character posted up. Aside from that little snag, I can post fairly often.

At present, I'd likely be going for one of the two in my signature (one is listed as working, but the game is on hiatus), or I could of course build something else that the team needs--note, I don't really enjoy Face-type characters for the most part.

I allow all the sourcebooks because highly customized characters are interesting. That said, the more times I have to flip through all the sourcebooks to check on obscure rules/stats, the more likely I am to find some in-game way to make my job easier  8)

Looking forward to seeing your character, and good luck with your surgery. I hope we can get this all up and running within a week or two.

Ah, I have a character who is almost perfect for this. I made her for another game that petered out after a couple of weeks. I'd need to make some adjustments for the extra 10 points of contacts (gives me some points back for other stuff), but here's the background/build in case you're interested

Description: A slender, wiry asian woman with extremely pale skin and short hair currently dyed electric blue. Her cybereyes are normally pink, just her old eyes, but when going out for fun she can give them a soft glow. Xinzhi has an eclectic sense of style, ranging from Steampunk formalwear to funky bohemian street clothes. She has several bullet and knife wounds on her torso, but keeps them covered with armor and clothing. She tends to wear dark or heavily saturated colors to contrast with her pale skin.

History: Born in Hong Kong to a mercenary based out of Macau, Xinzhi never knew her father, and her mother was often gone for months at a time on "business trips". She spent her childhood in a safehouse paid for by her mother's blood money.

Her condition isolated her from other children and required her to receive her schooling indoors, on the Matrix. She was surprisingly well-adjusted given the circumstances, and understood the limitations caused by her severe albinism. She was extremely social on the Matrix, and even now she still spends most of her free time online.

As she grew into a teen, the distance between her and her mother became more strongly felt, and in an attempt to re-establish a bond Xinzhi began working alongside her mother as a mercenary when she was 16. She joined under an assumed name to avoid being treated differently because of her mother, and despite poor eyesight due to albinism her marksmanship earned her a place on the squad. Over the next few years, she invested much of her earnings into augmentations for herself, first and foremost replacement eyes and reflex enhancements. She never quite made the connection with her mother that the two had hoped for, and after an argument following a disastrous mission in mainland China that the two barely survived, Xinzhi resigned her commission and emigrated to the U.S.

She hit Los Angeles like a whirlwind, drinking in the pervasive media culture and cutting-edge fashion. Her mercenary savings have been devoured by a love of gambling/clubbing and an inability to do more with her days than read scandalous gossip online. Without the discipline of the unit keeping her focused, Xinzhi is something of a slacker. Now, running low on cash, hunger is what gives her focus.

That was where I'd left her backstory for the other game. Presumably, she struck out in L.A. and has come slinking back to Hong Kong.

Intersted in making a technomancer that is very unorthodox that is bonded with a sprite, resonance bond. The sprite wants to learn more about metahumanity through the technomancer who interacts with the world as a street sam and in return learns more and more about the matrix and the magic within it through the sprite.

I don't know name yet, just jotting down concepts but he calls the sprite Randal, name the mancer gave to him.

Most likely it'll be one of the two in the sig, like I said before. Kind of leaning toward the mage, but the other one is my favorite SR character I've ever made (the version is without the karma earned in prior PbP). They are both related to each other--cousins.

I'll throw in a Face-Gunslinger with a penchant for gambling named Ace. He'll be awesome.

jonathanc: Great! I can only suggest that you fill in some details for her contacts. If not, though, I will just make them up myself. Also, I assume the dependent is her mother?

vinnmun: Interesting! I haven't read all of Unwired, so I'll have to brush up (my matrix knowledge in general is sub-par). But, I like the idea. Keep my updated as to exactly what type of bond you're thinking of.

BigGuns: A mage will be useful for this campaign, but choose whichever character you like. I don't foresee no mages or too many mages presenting a big problem.

Glad to see so much interest here. Completed characters posted first  will get priority, though I may allow some time to choose the most interesting/diverse group.

Yeah, I'll go with Frostmane--the mage. Will be the first time I've actually played a mage in 4th, but gotta start sometime--just need people to bear with me a bit. Background isn't listed, but hers is rather uneventful for the most part. Nothing really major for her, and she was rather sheltered considering the rarity of Awakened people. She really just kind of 'fell in' to this sort of work due to the influence of the other character in the signature.

*thinks for a moment* Now I'm wondering if family members need to be bought as contacts...

Well, I'd probably buy up different contacts, since you're giving us 10 free points for them. The dependent was actually a boyfriend (her mother is still active as a merc), but I might shift those points around.

"Ace" or  "Slim"
Augmented Human
27
Northern UCAS

Tall, slim, with a roguish grin and a short-brimmed fedora cast down over his brow while he rolls a coin over his fingers. He has a pack of cheap smokes tucked into the folded up dress shirt that pokes out of his sleeveless vest, a gold chain running from breast pocket down and across. His hip was graced by a plated revolver of rather antique design but lined with ornate circuitry-designs, betraying the modern origin.

Gonna throw my hat into the ring as well. I've been pre-making some characters to learn the system so if you want standard characters, I can give you a Irish spirit-summoning astral artist dark elf, or a professional and well-mannered spec ops gone merc (basically a street samurai with a smattering of face). If you're interested in weirder characters, I have a hacker AI or a SURGE adept. The adept though is a bit out there. He was meant to be a genetic hybrid between dragon and metahuman DNA and escaped from where he was created. The SURGE and adept abilities are meant to be fluffed as superior dragon genetics, so it's kind of a long shot as to whether it fits in anywhere really.

When you say 400 + 10 for contacts, can we spend more on contacts if we wish?

If you correspond often and/or they are useful in the line of work, then yes.

When you say 400 + 10 for contacts, can we spend more on contacts if we wish?

You may spend anywhere from 10-410 BP on contacts!
