On the other hand, Corrosion is looking promising. The development is a bit slow, but I don't expect a lightning pace from a small team of hobbyists.

Just to give you an impression of the level of visuals we are aiming to do in the browser and to hopefully alleviate the fear of it looking like a Facebook game, here are some recent shots from our Jagged Alliance Online development- Shadowrun would be even more detailed and of course in a slightly different style, but the general direction is similar.

Cool pics.

i think the real issue is there clear way to have good and evil characters that most mmo's survive by, i.e. alliance vs horde, empire vs chaos or whatever it is for warhammer, etc. etc. you get my drift, lol.

the archtypes would be very difficult to have good vs evil, so there would basically be no pvp which makes all mmo's successful....

It could be hardcore FFA, meaning that shadowrunner "teams" or "companies" would need to band together in order to push out the competition.

Other than that, you could have the DiMR or the Draco Foundation on one side and Aztechnology on the other, for the really simplistic version.
There is no overkill.

Only "Open fire" and "I need to reload."

This is Shadowrun.  Where the "Good Guys" shoot people.  In the face.  For money.

The evil people would be who exactly?

Anarchy Online had a decent first generation model using corporate mission-giving, semi-random missions, and decent open world and location-based free-for-all PVP. All things that would be core to a Shadowrun MMO.

IIRC, it wasn't browser based.  :P

that's my point, there's no definite split of good vs evil, so the pvp would be nil, and pvp is what seems to make a game fly. if it were only to be one-sided such as doing missions, it would kinda limit the mmo world.

i really put a lot of thought into it cuz i thought it would be feasible as well, but then i got thinking about it and what it would take... and that's where it gets pretty damn complicated. i think instead of a mmo, it could work just as well as say... an xbox live multiplayer game, cuz there's really no reason to have it as an mmo, it would be just like playing a game without the vs style archtypes.  and i definitely think a xbox live rpg would be a great idea btw, lol.

don't get me wrong, i'm not completely against it, i just think it would be very, very difficult to set up the universe and specify archtypes and other characteristics.

OK, look at it from this perspective:  It's Dystopian.  There is no "Good", there is no "Evil" (Although that one is debated), there is only "Survival".

Who is with you?  Nobody.  Who is against you?  Everybody.

And now you have lots of opportunity for PvP.  :P

i like the idea, i just have no idea how well it would work in the spectrum of an mmo...

definitely food for thought though!

Also, it's a browser-based MMO, which changes things up a bit.

CivWorld will show us a taste, I think.
