Liberated Wealth Episode 1 part 2
Right lets set the scene:
You’ve been on this run for 5 hours, killed the transport team, looted the transport. Then when to a warehouse looked over the loot decided you needed more input. Went to the Bar got some interesting tidbits from Alestor a Gremlin’s afflicted mage. Learned the book is major bad Juju and people will want to get their hands on it for nefarious reasons.
The group has now gone to a small restaurant, the “Caribbean Mambo” a small Cuban restaurant located near the bar. This small hole in the wall restaurant has a three person band playing some festive tune in the corner and the tables are reasonably packed. A low amount of smoke drifts in the air, you’re certain not all of it is legal in origin. The restaurants other patrons don’t seem to notice you’re the group as you take your seats.
Hank: “ We need a Mage to around us if we’re going to keep this thing around, anyone know a good mage?”
Rybka: “I’ll make a call” it takes a minute or two but you find a person your fixer knows “he’ll be here shortly”

Ok so here we are New guy pipe in when your ready

Rache was sitting at home, going over some information she had obtained.  She was still searching for her sister and although the trail had long gone cold she refused to give up.  Suddenly her commlink went off.
"Hey Rache, came the voice of Melissa, a friend, "How are things?"
"Slow, mostly," Rachel admitted.
"Well, I might have something for you," Melissa said, "You remember Micheal O'Rielly?"
"Wasn't he your sergeant a couple of years ago," she asked.
"Indeed," Melissa said, "he's busted back to street cop.  He just received a call from a friend who needed a mage."
"What is it about," Rachel asked.  If there was one thing she had learned during her time in the shadows, it was paranoia.
"I don't know," she said, "But from what I've seen it's rather urgent.  They're currently in the Caribbean Mambo."

Rachel thought about it, but the thing was she needed money, and rather quickly.  And if they were in a restaurant, she could first check out the place before she decided.  No, that wouldn't be professional.
"Okay, tell them I'm coming," she said, quickly looking up the location of the restaurant, "Say ten to fifteen minutes."
She put on some clothes over her form-fitting armour that wouldn't look out of place in most of the city, put her kits and mage goggles in a backpack, together with some smaller stuff.  She also took her weapons with her, and her foci of course.  Over all that she wore her armoured vest, which also partly concealed her gun.

Checking the bus services she noticed that there was a bus stop not far from the bar, which was easier and less suspicious than taking a cab.  Who would suspect someone on the bus after all.  Ten minutes later she arrived at the restaurant.  As she entered, she immediately spotted the group.  They simply didn't fit with the rest of the clients in the restaurant.  While walking over, she did a quick astral scan of all of them.

"So you guys needed a mage," she said as she sat down, "The name's Rache."

OOC: I'm guessing the whole group is edgey and nervous right now. Your coming in mid-run so they've decided they need backup from someone magical which is probably not good.

The elf nods at the newcomer. "Nice to meet you, Rache. Name's Hank. Hungry? The food's pretty good. Just watch out for the troll if he starts dancing." He then leans back, resting his hand lightly on his mug, apparently waiting for others to make their own introductions.
Yes, Serious already posted the assensing result, but a little more detail (based off three hits on the table in the manual):
Hank is mundane, healthy, and emotionally a little wound up. He's got cyberware throughout his body, so it's no surprise that his essence is lower than yours. He doesn't have anything magical on him now, but he's clearly been in touch with something powerful recently.

And returning the favor, Hank eyes the newcomer:

(OOC: Mike is my contact not Rybka, so I will just assume I was the one who made that call :) )

Once Smiley notices who has joined them, he immediately jumps up and offers his seat to Rache.  "Remind me that I need to get Mikey out on the town sometime REAL soon, he seems to have had some gender confusion."

"So are you another Fallen Star?  The Knight's loss is certainly our gain, Rache, I am Smiley, the big guy is Marak and the other lovely lady is Rybka."  the Amerind each other teammate and a grin.  8)

I would think mine and Rybka's adept abilities would give us some protection from assensing mood, wouldn't that be right?  Regardless, I can't see Smiley being very upset or tense, especially once he sees another girl ;)

Rybka's aura show the following information:
Rybka is Awakened, has no apparent implants (her holistic astral presence is intact), is a healthy person and currently does not seems to suffer from any ailment. She is a somewhat powerful awakened, even though a focused one which still has a lot of ground to cover (her Magic rating is 5). Even though the swirls on her aura have already faded, recently she was subject to some stimulant drug (mostly probably a mild one). She seems strangely calm and collected, with a healthy suspicion which is to be expected from a 'runner.

The blonde girl nods at the approach of the other woman, an unreadable enigma.

"As the pretty boy said, I'm Rybka. Running around code and people is my field." As she perceives the woman's gaze on her, she widely smiles. "I'm pleased to meet you. I trust you get some questions..."

"Indeed, I have," Rache said, "the usual ones, like who, what, where, and how much?  More specific ones will probably follow after that."

OOC: I haven't checked who had which contact.  I'm sorry.  But I assumed this was the most logic way: Mike -> Melissa -> Rache

@Thvor:
-perception: She's wearing an armoured vest and you can probably see the bulge of a gun underneat it, but I guess that's expected.  Clothing is non-descript.
-judge intentions: she's a bit nervous, which is also to be expected when meeting a new team.
@Serious, let me know if I need to tell more.  I'm not sure how far I have to go.

"Get yourself comfortable. Grab something to eat, if you please. And if you're okay with that, pass us your commcode." It's obvious the girl is implying it is safer to talk about that over a protected and encrypted channel. Any bar where 'runners meet may have information bleeders waiting for a chance to catch a big and valuable secret. "It'll be easier and faster that way."

"Sure, no problem," she said.  As if a somewhat competent hacker couldn't get that one if he, or she in this case, really wanted.

As soon as the mage shares her commcode with the group, Rybka add her to their encrypted communications channel. And sends her a small report, which she has been working on on the last moments:

[File: A very spoiled run]
>> Here's the amount of info we can share of the current situation of things:
>> Before this night, we didn't know each other; this is not an established 'runner team.
>> We we're hired by this individual [annexed file: still shots of the Johnson during the meeting annexed] to "retrieve some information to him". Said information was to be stored into a commlink which was due to be transported during this night in a two-car convoy. Our job was to steal the 'link and deliver it to the Johnson.
>> Inspection on Mr. Johnson's bodyguards show tattoos [annexed file: Totenkopf 875 tattoo] that imply they belong to "875" (that name was given by KE, there's still doubts as to what they call themselves), a new gang in Lynnwood which seems to act more on military procedure than your typical gang.
>> Johnson's information says we should expect this "two-car convoy" to be well-armed and our only specification is that we should bring back the commlink, no matter what and how.
>> We set the convoy a, ambush, but discovered they were far better equipped than initially though. The guys were carrying some military equipment, and among their people there  were some good hackers protecting their lines.
>> Anyway, the cargo was stolen: a warded shielded box [annexed file: still of the box];
>> When the box was opened, no commlink was found, instead there was a book (physical format) which was obviously bad news [annexed file: still of "The Blood"];
  >> Our research on the book so far has uncovered the following data:
  >> The book is written in old Germanic, and even a quick look shows it to be quite old;
  >> Electronic sensors have difficulty getting precise images of the text in it, and Awakened individuals get the "real bad feeling" near it;
  >> Matrix searches on the book found this matches:
    >> Results of the search were equally paired with "raising the dead" sites and  conspiracy theory sites;
    >> The book seems to be called "The Blood", believed to be written by a Kemmler; pre-first World War information paints him as a crazy prophet;
  >> Assensing the Book has clarified it's obviously a necromancy tome;
>> By this point, th group does not know anymore what to do; no commlink was found, and even though that's what would make this be another well-done job, should we deliver the damn book? Nobody felt comfortable with the idea;
>> In our investigations, we went to a mage, a "friend of a friend", who told us (a bit reluctantly) that this book is the first of a series of three written by this Kemmler guy (The Blood,The Body and The Mind), all of them about getting power and twisting Mother Nature ordinary work with some nasty surprises. Hope you like The Three Muskeeters, as why the legends go, this trilogy may in fact by completed by a fourth tome (the rumored The Word). Our contact said Kemmler was a crazy but quiet man, who could do some nifty tricks on the time of the dead magic; there's word that he may found a recipe for immortality (the chummer who provided us this info regarded this bit as bullshit); his opinion was that the best course of action was to burn it;
>> And here we are. Although our initial idea was to maybe put up a scam on Mr. J. (forging the book or the like), we were abandoned by our previous mage, and we found out we needed some magical backup; here's where you get into the boat.
>>END OF REPORT

After some moments, the tech-girl asks with a smile: "Questions?"

Rache was looking over the stills included in the report, while thinking about stuff she had studied in college.
"Just a second, I'll see if I have something in my database," she said, starting up the pocket mage library she had bought in college, but kept up to date all the years after.

not knowing which I actually need, I'll do both.
history roll:
logic 5 + history 3 =8 (8d6.hits(5)=3)
magical theory roll (with pocket mage library):
logic 5 + magical theory 4 + pocket mage 3 =12 (12d6.hits(5)=4)

"One question," she said when the search was on its way, "Can I see it?  I would like to see if I too feel that aura.  And if I do, I think making a forgery would be difficult as that wouldn't have said aura."

"Seeing it is not an issue, though we may want to find a more...private...location for viewing, if you are accepting the work. We should deal with other considerations, like perhaps, payment?"  Smiley grins as he hovers by the newcomer.  "To be clear, we have not really arrived ourselves at a satisfactory outlet for compensation with this particular MacGuffin, so if we can agree to a simple shared risk/shared compensation arrangement, minus expenses, and adjusted for you late arrival, we can defer that to a later time and deal with a more clear accounting of your capabilities.  We can't afford to be terribly picky, but knowing what you are good at and what you can't handle would be helpful.  Your specialities in Magic are...?"

Smiley leans close, "Tantric rituals would be especially interesting."

 ;) ;D 8)
