I want to give something a try, I have no idea if this will work. But the premiss is this.

Give me your charecter the only restriction is you're not allowed to open the shadowrun book and look at crunch and mechanics.

What does this mean?

It goes something like this.

Quote
I want to plaaaayyyy, Hmmmm,  treasure hunter, he goes in to the most dangerous of places searching for knowledge. He's living in LA and currently is exploring the deep lacuna. He has to rely on a lot of friends to survive down there so we could say he's quite socially competent, he has a bunch of contacts smugglers a mage group and a couple of fixers to get the meat sehilds,
Hes got a phd in arcanoarcheology, used to work for the atlantean foundation at one point but left for (insert plot point here).
In his free time he travels a lot mostly to historical places of power. And so on and so forth,

At which point i'll go "All right I like it, take two group contacts  and 4 profesional contacts up to loyalty 3 and 3 personal contacts loyalty 4+.
You can have a mini sub and a couple of range rovers for free. You didn't really emphasize his combat skills, so when you build him keep his combat skills about the 12 dicepool mark. Make sure his knowlege skills are up to scratch and so on and so forth.

Now go build your character no bp limit. Just dont take the piss.

The purpose here is to create interesting well grounded characters, and a campaign the revolves around them and what they want to do. It will be relititively sandbox, and I wont know the metaplot untill ive seen your charecters. Essentialy Its up to you to inspire me amd go from there.

Well, I find the idea interesting... but there should be a BP limit, for one. Also... shadowrunners aren't exactly sandbox types, unless this isn't a shadowrunner game. I would love to play in a game, I'm just a little leery of the concept you're putting out so far.

I understand this can seem a little odd. Im relying on the players not to build anything too rediculous. If someone builds a 1000 bp monster im likely to say no.

But what it comes down to it that really interested to see what people can do if not restricted by character gen. It might not work, and It might wont really know until I see what people come up.

If you need a reference keep it under 600 bp, but dont feel restricted is the main point of the thread. remember its not about power its about creating the charecter you're most going to enjoy playing (though for some thats the same. this probably isn't a game for them)

I'll pop in and say I am interested I have an idea of a character. He's a mix of B&E & Gun man. I need to write his background first though, I could post something tomorrow or the next day.
Colors: Speech, Thought, Matrix

agreed

IŽll sleep on it and try to come up with a concept tomorrow

EDIT:
What is your general take on non-Metahumans? Specifically I would be interested in playing a shapeshifter. I already have a rough idea about a background, but if you generally wont allow shapeshifters, I wouldnt take the time to write it up.

shapeshifters are fine. but remebrits really rare for some types of them to be awakened. Te tiger and lions for example.

I was more thinking of a jaguar-shapeshifter adept.

3 sentence background(obviously to be expanded)
[name] was recruited into the amazonian forces and was active as a scout behind enemy lines in the amazonian-atzlan War. But when his brother got captured by bounty hunters for unknown reasons he left the forces and went after him. He only has one small clue about his brothers location which has lead him to [starting city of the campaign], but his search requires more money than he had available, so he has to use his talents to do whats necessary.

He basically has the "Lost Loved One" flaw on Steroids

Okay so the submissions ive had so far all all well and good.

I think what everyone is slightly lacking in is a deep involvement in something. Whether that be a corporation, an obsession, syndicates dragons ais spirits. Side projects.

Searching for a long lost sibling, or seeking revenge for your parents is obviously going to be a characters core motivation. But thats not instant and there are going to be many things that happen on that path,

Well lets take kane as an example, searching for his lost love, what did he become in the process one of the most famous pirates and runners who lived. All so he could blow 100milion on a job to rescue his lost love.

If you so wish your character might be deeply entrenched undercover in a  corp, or leading a resistance. They could be explorers for the atlantean foundation, or well anything you like. If your just have your one goal you're going to hop from mission to mission not being proactive. If you have goals, and obsessions then you'll be saying, "Beofer we take another run I want to do this this and this"

The characters are missing the middle part of the story. That means you'll be led by the champaign instead of leading it around

This is a concept, so I'll throw this out there.

John Doe was your average wageslave for Aztechnology. From as long as he can remember, he had been involved with the Aztechnology archology. His parents worked for them, he was born and raised an Aztechnology child. He even met his wife through the company. His wife was leading a special project for Aztechnology, one which would have put them in a monopoly position in the soy business. Aztechnology being what it is, they had a very tight leash on our hero's wife. When they heard the rumour that another of the Big Ten were preparing an extraction, they decided to take her away to an undisclosed location. However, when a team of runners tried to (unsuccesfully) hit that new location, Aztechnology knew they had a mole. They quickly tried to smoke it out, but to no avail.

With paranoia setting in, management was feeling a threat to their already dominant position, so they decided to destroy the special project in order to prevent others from obtaining it. They didn't leave any loose ends, taking care of John's wife as well and making it look like a suicide. John was distraught, but believed what Aztechnology told him.

It was not until a few months later that a team of runners, hired by Shiawase, gave an unaltered copy of the autopsy to John in the hopes of recruiting him. It clearly indicated there had been a struggle and a strangulation, not a hanging. But the worst part of the autopsy was that John's wife was pregnant.

This tipped John over the edge. He left Aztechnology then and there, but didn't throw himself in the arms of Shiawase; he instead vowed to try and do all he could to destabilize Aztechnology's position, wherever that might lead him.
