So hey, this is my first time posting, and I have no idea where this goes. So sorry if this is the wrong place. A lot of forums have a "ask a simple question" but I saw none of those.

I'm building a character. he has 2 BOD. He is encumbered by pretty light armor. I am out of BP. What I am not out of is Nuyen, and essence.  Is there a way around armor encumbrance using cyberware? Again. sorry if this went in the wrong place.

YNT Weave from Attitude helps. Also, Suprathyroid Gland- but that requires restricted gear.

Surely, you can spare 10 BP from somewhere for 3 bod.

YNT SoftWeave is in War! not Attitude. The Carbon Boron, Delta Amyloid and Kevlar Threading modifications are in Attitude, but they still count against encumbrance.

Derp, my bad.

Still. YNT Softweave. It'll help if your character isn't a total shrimpkin.

Yeah, so long as one is at least average in Strength, and really despite the hate the book draws, most of the REAL problems are in the "fluffy" parts. I might be able to somewhat understand how some might dislike the Slow spell, but beyond that, most of the really powerful stuff is way beyond the availability (even with Restricted Gear) of starting characters and really easy to keep out of play until a campaign has progressed far enough.

I still have no idea why the gave us the stats for buying an aircraft carrier and destroyer.

It's more having the stats for it available for the GM to use since it's unlikely any runner team or merc unit will get enough for those. (Though there was an SR3 game I played where if the entire team pooled their pay after about 6 months we probably could have gotten an aircraft carrier--seeing as the GM lost his mind and put us on retainer for 2 million a month each.)

Also, having the book price helps when trying to fence them.

There's also various ways of getting more armor from 'ware that doesn't count for encumbrance. Trauma Dampener (Augmentation) and Platelet Factories (core) are psuedo-armor, there's several terrible options, Bone Density Augmentation and Bone Lacing are niche options for unarmed combat adepts, and cyberlimbs can have armor on them.

You could also upgrade some ware to Alphaware to free up essence. Playing with 2 Body is going to be really rough in almost any campaign. I would suggest at the very least getting some dermal plating. You should probably wear a Full Body Suit from Arsenal.

Gonna have to agree with Shadowjack here, 2 body is going to be extremely difficult to overcome unless you plan on not taking damage at all. Some of my characters only have 3 and they make me extremely nervous, but I'd prefer 4 just so you can get the nicer armor.

We need more info. What kind of character is this? 2 Body is playable, especially for a Face or Hacker/Rigger. For pretty much anything else, though, I gotta agree that you need to find some way to scrounge up the BP to raise it to 3, so you can at least get a lined coat.

Okay, sorry about sort of ignoring this thread, and I hope that this doesn't count as necroing it. I found that the DM was playing with house rule that one piece of armor doesn't encumber us. Which is good, although if we were playing with normal rules I would have probably gone soft weave. You did want want more info as to the character, so I'll post it. It will look a bit dumb to you guys, probably.

== Description ==
Short, thin, and weedy. Arthur Gallen wears clothes branded with his favorite matrix games, shows, and memes. He has thin, stringy hair that he normally wears at a normal length.

== Background ==
When Arthur and his sister, Julie were young, his parents died mysteriously and they were sent to live with their grandmother. They did well in school, but all Arthur wanted to do was play matrix games and drive fast. He found himself doing well in the racing curcuit. It is here he met Markus, a gambler who owned a nightclub, and Jackknife, his main rival. He made enough nuyen to sustain his habits, but when his grandmother became terminally ill, his new "pal" Markus loaned him money for her treatment. The treatment was not successful, and his grandmother died peacefully away.

Aside from his grandmother's medical expenses and the ridiculous interest on the loan, Arthur found himself the Julie's legal guardian. Markus called in Arthurs debt, forcing him to work in the shadows. Even now, after Arthur figures he has worked off his debt, Markus keeps him working, telling him he will hurt Julie otherwise.

The rest of my crew is going to be a human street sammy who specializes in taking hits, and punching people with his robot arms, a street doc is okay at talking to people and shooting them with his pistols and an infiltrator who... does something else. I dont know. It will probably involve katanas. This is our first game of shadowrun. I have been reading forums and listening to my DM and seeking advise elseware, trying to balance being effective at what I want to do with being in a party where the Sammy has a one in charisma and uncouth, not to mention not actually owning any guns (and having an abysmal dicepool to use them.)

So give me advice, I am utterly new at this. The DM has already okayed this sheet, so radical changes are probably out (although hes a pretty easy going to guy, so most not so ridiculous changes are probably okay)
