Title: [OOC] Playing for Fools
Post by: StarManta on <09-11-11/2035:12>
I'm looking to start running a PbP game (in addition to participating in some) focusing more on social skills, cons, and so on than guns and explosions. Which is to say that, even though we'll have a fighter in the group, the fighter is also fairly competent at conning. I'd like around 4 players, but up to 6 would be acceptable.

Setting: Seattle would likely be the home base, but I'm happy to entertain other ideas. Pretty good odds this campaign will lead to travels around the world.
Frequency: One post per day is about what will be expected (more always welcome)
Expect mature situations and language and the like. I don't censor anything.

As a GM I'm pretty good at making open-ended runs and improvising, so go into this expecting to be given a long leash to plan your runs (and more than enough to hang yourself on, too!)

Rules for character creation:
* 400BP for characters
* All characters should have at least one CHA-linked skill at 2 or higher
* Anything that's Missions-safe is good to go; will be open to a lot of non-Missions-safe builds, just ask first.
* Characters should have interesting Qualities, both positive and negative.
* Keep the min-maxing to a minimum, please.

Other rules:
* Using the IC Roller (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/) for all dice rolls, and please create an account there as well for tracking and such.
Quick code for rolls:
xd6.hits(5) will roll x# dice counting 5s and 6s as a hit.
xd6.hitsopen(5,6) will roll x# dice with exploding 6s, counting 5s and 6s as hits like regular
* I think I'm going to steal this from Chrona's other game:

When we start the IC thread, add this to the top of your posts so we don't track of that sort of thing. It'll also help me remember who has what character.

I'm going to keep this updated at beginnings and notable parts of scenes so we don't have to keep track of every post across 40 pages as the IC thread balloons in size. This can also serve as a rough adventure log at-a-glance sort of thing. For combat, there'll probably be a link to the beginning of each IP, and so on.

I'm interested as well, and will work on a character. Thanks for PMing me btw!

I'm also interested.
Probably, will start playing with some concept tomorrow.

I haven't been a mage in a while

I'm interested as well. I'd either like to play a Hacker or a Combat character. I usually play magic-oriented characters and I'd like something different. I'll draw up a character shortly.
Also, long time lurker, but first-time poster. I've been reading the PbP games for a while now.

I usually like playing hacker/face types, but I could go for something different, if there's a need.

How do you handle Threading for Technomancers? Is it an action that takes no time?

Edit: Netzgeist, if you want to play a hacker/face, I'll run a dronomancer that runs secondary matrix support/combat. I'm looking into it and liking the possibilities.

Since two of the main roles are covered, I could probably make more of an unusual character. I'll do some thinking about specifics, but I am interested in playing.

Yeah, threading is a non-action. I do generally limit the number of times you can do threading though, because it's just a lame way to play the game if you repeatedly thread until you get the result you want.

This sounds like something I could get into. I'm thinking melee combat here.

Alright, well with that we more or less have a team. Still have space for a couple more that are interested, but I think this is enough to start throwing around ideas and characters and such.

What exactly is a "mission-safe" character... I don't really understand what limitations that entails.

Deliverator, a Missions-safe character is one that is built using the limitations as show in the Missions FAQ. For your convenience, it's in the link below:

Im likely looking to make a social/combat sort of character, as t hat is my tendency/comfort zone. I have a character I made for another game that didn't get off the ground I might recycle, not sure though.

I'd like if you could fill this role. I am not carved for rigging... and it's always nice to have company on the 'trix.

I'm still up for making a character. I'm working on him now, for the "ranged combat" part of the team, unless i missed a post saying it was taken.

Cool. I'm not interesting in threading more than once, really. I think it breaks the spirit of the rules, plus I don't wanna risk eating a bunch of fading damage from it.

What kind of dice pools are we looking at? Trying to figure out where okay, good, and whaaaaaat? is.

I'd like to know as well. I usually start with stats, create a story that I like, then tweak the stats to make them fit.

Also, how do you feel about Empathy software for Technomancers and their ability to thread it? I'm not looking to be a face, but it's nice to have a few more dice when you really need it. I'll be needing it sometimes with this game focusing more on the social aspect.

Questions, questions...

StarManta, do you allow Custom Commlinks and Custom OS for them?

I'd say that threading Empathy software would require some knowledge of social skills to create in the first place. In game terms, the effective rating of any Empathy complex form you thread would be limited to the rating of the appropriate social skill (depending on what the empathy form is being used for).

Normal dice pool for your specialty skill set should probably be in the neighborhood of 12-18.

Yes.

Also, Jeeves has PM'd me withdrawing, so we're again in need of ranged combat.

What of buying the Empathy CF straight out? Same limitations? It'd still be restricted to being used through a mechanical device (although, I don't plan on being outside VR a hell of a lot). As a side note, I'd present an arguement against letting Sprites use the Assist Operation task on Empathy CFs. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me for a strictly virtual being to be able to help understand the social interactions of meatspace creatures.

Tacnets are of interest to me as well, however, I'm gonna wait till later on that. I'm wanting to put out there what I'm interested in. Honestly, I don't care much about the bonuses with them as much as the data gathering in a fight.

Finally, what can I remote control? Am I limited to drones, vehicles, and such typical examples, or can I remote control anything that has a computer and a link, such as a medkit?

So many thing to get clarifications on!

Yeah, same limitations, and agreed.

This'll probably be a case by case thing. As for medkits, the description implies it can't be remote controlled, so I'll say that one is a no. (Except for Valkyrie modules, which do say they can be remotely controlled.)

Nice, I'm thinking something about 14~16 for social-fu (second face I do without initial Tailored Pheromones... it does not fit with the character concept I'm working on) and 10 to hacking attempts.

I don't know why, but I just looked up Medkits and Autodocs in the SR4A and the book expressly says that Medkits and Autodocs can be accessed and controlled remotely. Hmmm... well, I feel stupid for bringing it up now...

Oh, you're right. In the gear listing for the medkit it says nothing of the sort, but in Running the Shadows (p.253) it does say they can be accessed remotely. My mistake.

(In this case, it's probably a case of "Untrained person hooks the patient up to the medkit, trained person then connects to the medkit to do his work" sort of thing.)

If you're still looking for a ranged character, I've been working up a character that should be pretty interesting. Uses a strength 8 bow with cyberarms and a smartlink. Probably going to stick with human. He'll be something a little different from the standard sniper character. He'll be able to use crossbows as well for closer-ranged combat, as well as some melee skills (spurs? clubs? unarmed? hard to decide!). He'll have good infiltration skills as well so he can get into restricted places with some of his toys.

You got it. Though, it will be interesting to see how you reconcile a character who's techy enough to have cyberarms and and old-school enough to choose bows over guns.

Ok, I've got a plan for a combat medic sort of character so we should have a pretty rounded out party. He'll also be proficient with automatics, filling the mid ranged niche. Allow a day or so for the character as I'm feeling pretty sick at the moment : P

Alright, we've got seven people and a pretty well rounded team. I'm closing recruitment for now, but people can still post if they want to be backups.

All we need are some character sheets :)

How would you prefer the sheets? Should we post them here, at the Big Black Book o' Runners or as a PM?

And have we already decided the starting location at which we will be? I got my character mostly sorted out, but for some things in her history to really make sense I will need to know it.
Title: Re: [OOC] Playing for Fools (Recruiting closed)
Post by: StarManta on <09-14-11/1724:00>
It's still set in "probably Seattle but open to suggestions". Since I haven't heard any suggestions, Seattle is probably pretty safe.

As for character sheets, preference would be for the BBCode sheet (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=948.0). Failing that, attaching a file to a post is the next preferred, followed by an external link. Anything that's well laid out and easy to read is acceptable.

I'm working under the assumption of Seattle. So, if it gets changed let me know. Also, are we going to be meeting for the first time on this run? If so, is there a universal contact for all of us?

I'm using BBCode right now to build everything, but sweet Jesus do vehicles take forever.

I'm probably going to do some sort of "you get thrown together for one thing" for the first mission. I'll decide for sure after I get the plot framework mapped out, which will be done when I have some character sheets for inspiration and details. I see 2 likely scenarios:
a) You all have a fixer in common who put the team together, in which case I'll make that free low-level contact so you don't need to worry about BP for it;
b) You get put together by a person or power that you don't necessarily know.

Probably a. Either way, I won't make you spend BP on it.

Quote

You mean for typing in? I don't necessarily need vehicles' full stats in the character sheet; most of them can be referenced when they're needed, especially for a non-rushed PbP game. Just put the Handling, Body, Armor, and anything that's modified from the default. (Odds are this isn't in time to save you any time, but in case it is...)

My first thought was 'you did?' Then I looked at my inbox and realized I'd completely forgotten you sent that. Added you to the roster because that was my goof.

IrregularS, check out his character sheet (http://www.coyotecode.net/profiler/view.php?id=7729)  and see if you can make sure your skill set as a rigger can complement his skill set as a smuggler.

Hmmm... He's got a really good Pilot Groundcraft score. I'll switch points out of that and into Anthroform and Aircraft. For rigging, I'm heavy on gunnery. Heck, I'll post the sheet in a few. I'm just finishing details.

Armored bus, walker made from a police motorcycle, a couple of utility drones, a long-range rotor drone, plus a couple of stealthy ones.

Hmmm... I may need an actual car. You know, one that you can drive down the street and not draw the ire of every single Knight-Errant cop along the way.

Here's my proposed character. Let me know if there's anything off or you've got any problems with him.

Name: Mathew Harrison
Alias: Ironclad
Race: Ork
Sex: Male
Nationality: Former UCAS, Caucasian
Lifestyle: Medium, Advanced
Karma Spent: 0
Karma Earned: 0
Submersion Grade: 0
Echoes: None
Physical Description: Ironclad was obviously the runt of the litter. He’s a bit shorter and significantly skinnier than most orks. Even so, he’s bigger than many humans. He’s keeps his head shaved bald, although his hair would be a thick mop of curly, sandy brown hair if he let it grow out. His eyes are grey, although the trait wasn’t carried by either of his parents. He’s got several piercings in his ears, two studs in the left side of his nose, a ring through his lower lip on the left, and both tusks are capped in metal. He walks with a heavy gait that does not speak of grace.
Personality/background Ironclad smiles and laughs a lot. He’s generally a jovial person, despite his surroundings and the racial bullshit he’s had to put up with. However, he can be a bit lazy at times and sometimes his ego shines through in all its annoying glory.

Lifestyles
Advanced Lifestyle: Beckman Mine/Luminous Coal Co.
The Beckman Mine/Luminous Coal Co. is a long abandoned coal mine processing plant in the Carbonado district of Pullayup. The building has been squatted in a number of times by different occupants over the years. Ironclad is the most recent resident, and he’s really take to fixing up the place into a base of operations.
Comfort: Middle.Ironclad’s hauled a lot of furniture and networking materials here to insure that the place is quite comfortable, even in the middle of Pullayup.
Entertainment: Squatter. There isn’t much in the Carbonado district to do on any given day. That said, Ironclad doesn’t really budget for it either. He pulls down a trid every once in a while, but mostly he’s tinkering with something new.
Necessities: High. This place is spacious. The Luminous Coal Co. gutted it when they left and most of what was worthwhile was taken in the years since then. Ironclad’s taken it upon himself to fix the place up, and for the most part, he has. Title: Re: [OOC] Playing for Fools (Recruiting closed)
Post by: IrregularS on <09-15-11/0406:16>
Here's the 20 questions from the Runner's Companion (I condensed two into one at the beginning). I wish I knew how to hide them with BBCode.

1.   What was your heritage? What did your parents think of you? What did you learn from them?

They named me Mathew. Richard and Edna Harrison were their names and they were both humans. They were closet meta-haters. I can’t say that my childhood was filled with love. I often helped my father, who was an electrician, at his workplaces, and I was often given difficult, boring, and sometimes dangerous tasks to complete. I kinda got what he was doing fairly quickly; my father was holding out hope that fate might remove me from their otherwise perfect lives. They already had three other children before me, and another after. Not like I really interacted with my siblings. My parents worked real hard to make sure I was kept separate from them. Hell, my mother avoided me while she was pregnant with my younger sister. I guess she though my “mutant” genes might infect the unborn child.
It didn’t surprise me that I wouldn’t be able to attend college, so when I matured a few years before my siblings, I took the money I had saved up, or stolen, and acquired a good enough fake ID to enlist in the UCAS military. That was the last I saw of my family was just before he went to boot camp and frankly I don’t miss it.
My parents did teach me a valuable lesson, however: trust in yourself and work with what you have to make things better; No one else will.

2.   What historical events do you remember?

Crash 2.0. Well, not so much that I remember IT, but rather what happened to me around it. I was remote controlling a drone in the field that day while our unit was on deployment. Nothing big, really, just a minor peace-keeping mission in the Africas. I went as dead as the unit’s matrix gear, along with two other riggers and a guy on Matrix overwatch. They apparently sent all of us to a local hospital rather than the unit barracks, and when the other three recovered quickly, they decided to leave me behind. Bastard that led the unit had it out for me. He’d made that clear from day one. He treated the other metas like shit too, but at least most of them were the brawny, but stupid types. I was too smart for my own good. Found out later that he was Humanis, but I disgress. So they left me behind with orders to send me back should I recover. Problem was that the little third-world hospital barely had a functioning mainframe at the time and the Crash fragged it. The paperwork got lost in the shuffle. They kept on caring for me and charging the military. After I woke back up, I was discharged with nothing much to go on. My bank accounts didn’t exist anymore; in fact, as far the UCAS was concerned, I didn’t exist anymore. I managed to scrape enough cred together to call an old military buddy. At least I thought I had, but more on that later. Luckily, he was still using the same number. Torque, as he was calling himself now, was in my unit and had since been discharged. He offered to help set me up, even offering to get me back into the military, but I refused that last one.

3.   How did your character get into Shadowrunning?

Well, after Torque got me set-up, I was looking for a job so I could begin again, but without a SIN, I wasn’t left with many options. It was at that point I found that I could talk to ‘links, drones, vehicles, and other electronics without a ‘link myself. Fuckin’ confused the shit outta me the first time, then scared the shit outta me. Once, I’d calmed down a bit, I decided to explore the nature of my abilities for a while. Turns out that they’re useful for hacking ATMs and vending machines. I also figured out that I didn’t actually have the cred for the call to Torque. I had just done it, innately hacking the system into thinking I had the cred.
I was starting to learn my abilities when a sprite shows up on my doorstep. It jumped into the shitty cleaning drone I had “recovered” from a newly abandoned office complex and started wheeling the blasted thing all over the place. I had a hell of a time catching it, but once I did, that sprite started talking to me. The conversation we had gave me so much more insight into my abilities and what they are. “She” thanked me for entertaining me and left, but I got the better end of the deal in that encounter. They were spirits of the machine, and so many were sleeping, lying quiescent in information that streamed around me. Eventually, I was able to coax them out of their quiescent state. They were great companions, friends even, and helped me further my abilities.
I had told Torque about my abilities just before the first sprite visited me. Well, one day I get a call from him. He tells me he’s got a job that might suit my newfound skills and give me quite a bit of cred, perhaps enough to upgrade from the shack I was living in. Since then, I’ve been running the shadows. It’s been a hell of a ride, but worth it. I’ve found something here that I haven’t seen before: friends.

4.   What are your living arrangements?

Some nice couches, access to the ‘trix, and plenty of room for my drones and vehicles. What more could a guy ask for? This place was a shit hole before I got here. Now it’s a more comfy place than most in half of Seattle. Fairly secure, too. Gotta love drones and monowire.

5.   What are your religious beliefs?

Honestly, I haven’t found anything that really tickles my fancy. I don’t view the ‘trix the same way as some technomancers do, and none of the religions that people like to thrust at you really make much sense to me. It’s not that I’m an Atheist, it’s just that I’m not too interested in it now… I guess.

6.   What are grating parts of your personality?

Ummm… my laugh can be a bit grating… and loud. Otherwise? Shit, umm… I can have a bit of an ego, but really, I think that I can get a bit obsessive about new tech sometimes. I’m a bit irrevelant, too.

7.   What are you most and least favorite of the Megas?

Well, I respect Ares pretty well for the stuff that they put out and they’ve got a decent rep in the shadows, too. I still wouldn’t turn my back on them for all of China, but their cars and guns are top notch. I’m really wanting to get my hands on one of those Roadmasters.
As for my least favorite… Ummm… maybe Aztechnology, or Saeder-Krupp. The Azzies have got a bad rep in the shadows, but Saeder is run by a dragon. I’ll be damned if that’s a good thing.

8.   What’s the story with your contacts?

Well, I’ve already mentioned some of my past with Torque, but I’ll go into it a bit more. See, Torque is a human born to ork parents. Kinda the opposite of me, eh? So he knew what it was like growing up in an ork family as the weakest member of the bunch. Funny was, he didn’t resent them for it. He always knew they were teasing him, but they WANTED him to be stronger. Oh sure, he was a little hellion way up into his teens, but once he realized that his family gave a shit about him, he calmed down quite a bit. I think he took into the military to help support his family. Honestly, I’ve never been clear about it. Anyways, he’s always kinda felt more at home around orks than around humans, so he hung around with me and some of the other orks and trolls in the unit. Shit if the commander didn’t hate that, but Torque was an information specialist, and damn good at it too. He was just too valuable to fuck with. We got on good terms with each other, but honestly I didn’t see as much of him as the other guys. I guess he was just more at home playin’ with a disadvantage. Not really sure there. Anyways, he comes up for discharge a bit after Crash 2.0 and when he’s asked to renew his contract, he tells them no. On his way out, he gives the commander an earful of what he thought of his treatment of the metas in the unit. Shit, I wish I had been there for that. Anyways, afterwards he moves to Seattle and begins to set up a network of contacts and informants in the city. He’s lookin’ to take it easy afterall.
Now, about Samantha, or “Sam”, I’d already met her before my first run. See, she was that sprite I ran into when I was still learning my powers. Well, on one run, I met her again. She’d been caught by some subsidiary of a mega or somethin’ and they were running experiments on her, a couple of other sprites they had contained, and a few technomancers they had duped into volunteering. We were there to recover one of the technos, but I caught a glimpse of her in one of the nodes. I got curious and started prying deeper, trusting in my sprites to deal with the spiders that were lookin’ for me. I managed to bust into the node that they were keeping her in. Shit, she was in bad shape there. Have you ever seen the source code of a sprite? It’s a beautiful thing, but hers was… damaged. I managed to pull her into a spare ‘link I keep on me, and took her back to my place once the run was done. I got a closer look at her there, she was damaged beyond her ability to repair herself, but she guided me through a process that would fix her damaged source code. I had to sacrifice one of my friends to do it, but in the end… it was worth it. She started to say something to me, I think it may have been a threat about using her source code against her, but I just told her that what I had seen I her was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. She didn’t continue, but simply went back into a rest cycle to recover fully.
When Sam went to leave, I told her she was free to come and go as she pleased. She took me up on it and began to spend more and more time here. I began to spend more time in the ‘trix to talk with her and in return she showed me new tricks that I hadn’t considered before. From our talks, I think she’s a former machine sprite, but I’m not entirely certain. She’s helped me numerous times, pulled my fat outta the fire a couple of times, and repayed me more than once over, yet she still sticks around. I got that Renraku Manservant-3 just for her. Frankly, she’s my best friend in the world… maybe even more than that…

9.   What do you do if you’ve got no commitments?

I’d probably spend part of the day talkin’ with a tutor sprite about current upgrades for one of my drones, and the rest in the ‘trix with Sam.

10.   How did you come to learn your skills?

Well, I learned how to use a gun real well in the military. See, piloting is usually the easy part. Hitting your target is the hard part. Honestly, though, I used to be a better pilot, but I’ve gotten really rusty over time. Plus the Crash did a number on my mind. I woulda said more about my childhood, but really, I can’t remember about half of it. Torque told me I was a decent mechanic, but now I’m lucky to not lose a finger. Most of the time I have a drone do, or ask a sprite for assistance.
I picked up some of the hacking tricks I know on my own, but Samantha’s been a great help there. She’s helped me refine a couple of points and given me better insight into threading my complex forms. It’s funny that someone with such child-like curiosity about meatspace can have such intricate knowledge of the ‘trix and act so mature much of the time.

11.   What is your limit on jobs?

Shit, I’m not sure, really. I won’t stab my friends in the back. Wetwork leaves a bad taste in my mouth, as does blackmail and extortion, but I’ve got to pay the bills at the end of the day. Plus, it’s usually one mega against another, and they’re worse than many of us in the shadows. Really, I hate doing anything against the small, indep guys. It just doesn’t feel right.

12.   What drew you to your outlook regarding your abilities?

I’ve just thought about it for a long time. Sprites are spirits of the machine. They are the machine personified. My abilities allow me to awaken them and interact with them on a level similar to how they operate. I found my love for drones and vehicles in the military and I always found that you get the best out of a vehicle if you coax her and believe in her. Commanding her, kicking and hitting her, and yelling at her will only cause her to give up on you. Really, it all makes sense to me now. After all, why does the machine care whether they’re moving or not? They sit still for far long than they’re moving.
The thing that makes machines great is that they’re constantly evolving. Through the minds of men, they continually change, each being replaced by the next generation, similar to evolution in a biological sense. I want to work towards that, but I’ve been woefully insufficient in that goal. Running is always getting in the way.

13.   What are your feelings on augmentation?

I think it’s fantastic! People are perfecting themselves by merging with machines. They are becoming one with the spirit of the machine. However, in my own case, my flesh failed me before. It coulda just been that asshole of a commander, but I was told that my results on the cyber-compatibility tests came back negative. It’s why I never picked up and ‘ware in the military.

14.   What do you think of mainstream culture?

It sometimes produces new and interesting works, but really, it’s a pretty stilted thing. Honestly, I’m not much interested beyond the occasional interesting trid that comes out.

15.   Do you have a recurring nightmare?

I get flashes at times when I sleep of alien realms and disturbing code. I think it may be from my time spent trapped in the ‘trix after Crash 2.0.

16.   Is there anything or anyone you’re really attached to?

We talked about Sam already. She’s pretty much the most important thing in my life.

17.   What were your dreams as a child and what are they now?

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a magician and go on action-packed adventures slinging spells and fighting outrageous bad guys. Think of my disappointment as the years went by and I showed no magical talent. However, I have my own mojo to sling about now, so it’s been fulfilled in a way.
As for what my dreams are now? I’d really like to own my own body shop and garage. Something big enough to fabricate new designs that I’m always thinking up. Oh, and get a new, better body for Samantha.

18.   Why’d you choose the clothes you’re wearing?

It’s a rough neighborhood, so I want to at least look a bit intimidating. I got some of the metal on dares and the rest I got because I found that I liked them there. As for my hair, I got used to shaving it off and I haven’t really found a reason to not do it. Besides, I hate my hair. It’s too damn thick and curly.

19.   How did you get your name?

When you show up to a run with steel stuck through your face and then get into a walker for combat, people just have to give you a moniker. Really, though, it happened on one of my first runs, just after I had picked up that bike and modded it a bit. The armor wasn’t as heavy, and the gun not a big, but it worked. Well, I had climbed into my rig when the team’s tacnet being run by the amateur hacker started going off. The corp emergency response team had arrived in record time and with a LOT more backup than what we were expecting. Fortunately for us, they hadn’t been expecting me either. It engaged in a fighting retreat into the museum next door, and at one point, we had gained the higher ground. There was a group of corp goons advancing up a nearby staircase. I looked around for something to chuck down at them, when I saw it. It was a replica of one of the old Ironclad ships from the USA’s Civil War that was the size of a small car. I busted through the case, slid it over to the staircase, a shoved it over the edge. Flattened the corp goons pretty well, and gave us the opening in the weapons fire to retreat to a staircase in the rear. We blew the back wall of the museum on our way out and managed to get out. You might remember the news reports of an engineering failure on that museum.
Anyways, we go out to celebrate living after telling the Johnson that we lived through his little trap, and they asked me what that thing I tossed down the stairs at corp security. When I told him, he exclaimed that it was, “Perfect!” and its stuck ever since.

StarManta, I sent you my character sheet via PM. I'm thinking about answering the Runner's Companion twenty questions as soon as I have the time (which I hope, but do not expect, to be soon).

EDIT: Oh, I was just forgetting. If you give us all a free fixer contact, I would like to swap the points I gave to mine fixer and use to improve one other contact, which story-wise should be higher.

Some character sheets received; if I have notes I've sent them. First post updated with the details I have.

We didn't yet specify a year for the setting. It looks like you guys have been assuming 2072, which is fine by me.

Just a heads up, Deliverator's character will have a Tacsoft (R2), so everyone check out what sensor channels you can contribute to it.

Also, let's go ahead and set Sunday 9/18 as the deadline for character submission. We'll aim to start the first mission by Tuesday or Wednesday (9/20 or 9/21).

Also, I take it answering the 20 questions to help others get to know our characters? If so, I'll run through them here real soon.

You mean MRSI, right? It allows you to fire two shots, delaying the hit of the first, to insure that both strike at the same time and stack damage. It's from WAR! page 162.
Title: Re: [OOC] Playing for Fools (Recruiting closed)
Post by: Kylen on <09-15-11/1833:24>
And you can apply that to a bow? Like as in bow and arrow?
Title: Re: [OOC] Playing for Fools (Recruiting closed)
Post by: Thermo on <09-15-11/1957:09>
ack, yes, it's spelled "MRSI".. that's what I get for trying to post from memory

and yeah, it works with a smartlinked bow, it adds the damages of the two shots together and the opponent gets a single roll to dodge (if applicable) and a single roll to resist the combined damage

Quote
MRSI Software: MRSI (pronounced “mercy”) stands for Multiple-Round-Simultaneous-Impact. It is designed for indirect- fire explosive weapons like mortars and other artillery, but it can also be used with grenade launchers and even bows and other slow-moving projectile weapons. It works by calculating the high and low trajectories to a target within a weapon’s medium or long ranges, and firing along them in that order so the rounds arrive at the target at the same time.
This system only works if the program on a node subscribed to a smartgun-enabled indirect-fire or projectile weapon that either fires twice in the same Combat Turn or fires with a flight time (p. 138). Make only one test for both shots and only one roll for scatter (if applicable). If the target is entitled to a defense test, he makes only one test against the second shot, which applies
for both shots. Both rounds (or whatever is fired) strike within centimeters of one another at the same time when the second attack strikes. Add the Damage Values of both rounds together to determine the total damage taken in the single MRSI attack; the Armor Penetration and blast radius do not change. The MRSI program is Rating 5 and stops working if its rating is reduced.

That seems quite powerful...
Title: Re: [OOC] Playing for Fools (Recruiting closed)
Post by: Thermo on <09-15-11/2155:51>
It does massive damage, but it works best against either an unsuspecting target or a vehicle.. won't work nearly as well in a firefight where everyone is scrambling around. Great for first strikes, though. If anyone on the tacnet needs some fire support, Blackjack is your guy.

It was more "Missions safe unless you ask first".

Listing some dice pools is a good idea. Let's do a couple of those.

Common Dice Pools:
Perception: Visual 9, Hearing 6, Matrix 9 (11), Other 6
Infiltration: 2, 9 with controlled drone
Hacking: 4 + CF (Exploit 6) = 10 (12)
Registering: 10 [11 for Machine sprites]*
Compiling: 10 (12) [11 (13) for Machine sprites]
Threading: 12 (14)
Fade Resistance: 11
Pilot Aircraft: 9 (11)
Pilot Anthroform: 10 (12)
Pilot Groundcraft: 7 (9)
Gunnery (ballistics): 16 (18)
*I assume that Registering does not get the +2 Hot Sim bonus due to Hot Sim only applying to "Matrix Actions" and Registering takes place in VR meditation, which does not seem to be in the Matrix, or at least does not have to be. Could I get clarification on this?

First number is normal, second in parenthesis is with Hot Sim bonus. All pools assume Remote Control: Control Device actions where possible.

Edit: Suddenly realized my Matrix Perception die pool was wrong. It has been corrected.

*I assume that Registering does not get the +2 Hot Sim bonus due to Hot Sim only applying to "Matrix Actions" and Registering takes place in VR meditation, which does not seem to be in the Matrix, or at least does not have to be. Could I get clarification on this?
This would be a good general-clarification question to pose to the Rules forum. I would guess no.

First number is normal, second in parenthesis is with Hot Sim bonus. All pools assume Remote Control: Control Device actions where possible.
Note that technomancers are always hotsimming when in VR.

I was differentiating it just in case I was working in AR. Better to assume the lower is the base and then up it (forgetting a couple of dice here and there), rather than assuming it starts at its maximum value and lowering it for when it's necessary (and thus having times when it's a couple of dice too big). Better safe than sorry.

Good news everybody!

I have found internet to leech off of. Hopefully it will work enough for posts until I get legit nets. Also hoping Ways are available, so I can purchase it later.

God I am terrible at making characters. I get way too wrapped up in wanting EVERYTHING ... because well, being good at lots of stuff is way more fun than being amazing at one thing. I end up running out of points after putting together my stats and two skills lol.

dropped the MRSI to keep things more balanced, Blackjack can certainly find ways to reallocate the 10k nuyen and 5 build points it frees up  :)

Melee combat is a pain in the ass, its far more difficult to be proficient at.

Not really, Deli.

Start with your strength and Agility. Then choose your weapon type. Pump points into both those stats and the skill (save some for the specialization as well)

Look into an extra pass or two, and BAM, melee monkey, one weapon, mind you.
Title: Re: [OOC] Playing for Fools (Recruiting closed)
Post by: StarManta on <09-19-11/0937:14>
Actually, the most effective Melee combat characters I've seen forewent Strength upgrades and even weapons in favor of Adept powers, in particular Critical Strike. Strength increases your melee damage by 1 for every 2 points (=20BP), Critical Strike increases damage by 1 for every .25 power points (=2.5BP). If you combine CS with troll-level strength, of course, you can easily get 11P base damage on a punch You can even get Martial Arts advantages to add more. Add in Improved Ability and Attribute boost with high AGI and Unarmed Combat skill, you can have a 18+ dice pool on top of that 11+ DV.

Netzgeist mentioned not being available until around Wednesday; I'm planning to kick it off as soon as he's available, as I was planning to start it on Wednesday anyway.

As for what we have character-wise, I've kept the list on the first post updated with the characters and their current status. (Speaking of, I forget what "minor changes" I'm awaiting from you, but check your messages.)

A couple of things we should get taken care of:

Everyone should check the first post. If your status is anything but "Done for now", make sure I have whatever fixes/completions/etc ASAP!
Also, if you ARE done, please post your character sheet somewhere everyone can see it. (Which is to say, if it's not linked from the first post, post it in the thread.)

TheCommanders, I still don't have anything from you yet. If I don't get your character sheet and background by Wednesday, I'll have to drop your character from the game.

And finally, I think I'm going to steal this from Chrona's other game:
Quote
Monday February 15, 2072; 17:00, The Edge, Elven District, Downtown
Leigh Stark; PAN=Passive SIN: Rebecca Ashmere Rt.4
When we start the IC thread, add this to the top of your posts so we don't lose track of that sort of thing. It'll also help me remember who has what character.

I have regained internet connection a little earlier than what I expected, so here I am again. First things first, I'm posting an updated character sheet of Eliza below. I just updated her contacts (Jan is no more, and his points were stacked into Danielle).
Also, I will, as soon as possible, post some of her dice pools, as IrregularS had already did.

Brief Bio:
There are the ones who are better dealing with machines than with metahumans. Eliza just can't figure why choose one universe over the other, since both are so similar. Since Charles Babbage's Diference Engine, computers are know as machines who differentiate between diferent data and process information based in certain parameters. They way to understand how they function is understanding their inner language. If you ask Elisa, just like us metahumans.
The girl named Elisa Gebb was always a kind of freak: from an early age she showed amazing intellectual capabilites, facility to deal with numbers and decode messages. To her mother, Danielle, this was a sign of a promising future, maybe one as her own: Danielle was also fond of "processing data", thanks to the years serving as a Grid Overwatch Division agent.
Elisa had one interest: the way things worked. And when I say things, you should included the metahuman brain and behavior in the list. So when the time came, she went to the University and started her graduation in two faculties at the same time: Computer Science and Psychology. Her own world view allowed her to use the capabilities learned at one field into the other as well.
All was set in place, the future was bright ahead, but everything changed because of the 64' Crash. As with everyone else, it had an impact in her life, but the worse where the things that it triggered some years later.
Here we talk about what tossed Eliza on the Shadows. Here we talk about the Emergence event.
Not that she emerged a Technomancer. No, but that didn't help her not being one of the suspected of being one, because of her strange world-view and behavior.
She was kidnapped, held captive and subjected to a number of experiments. She remembers it as torture. It still has some impact on her today: she is subject to entering a catatonic state when she can't repress the memories (which are activated when she sees the Emerging Futures logo; Emerging Futures is the NeoNET subsidiary responsible for some "research" on unwilling suspects of being technomancer in Seattle area).
A group of "unwilling research subjects" could break free, and that was the way she gained the world, and lost her former life. Most of the ones who could escape the place were hunted down and killed before the tests became public knowledge. Eliza kept a low profile and abandoned her former life, knowing that she is still weak to fight back.
With no resources other than her metahuman and machine uncanny understanding, she turned herself to the shadows. Her fixer has difficult claiming her as a Brain Hacker or as a Program Code Face, but she get the job done.

Name: Eliza Gebb
Alias:
Race: Human
Sex: Female
Age: 22 years old
Nationality: UCAS
Karma Spent:
Physical Description:
Eliza is a beautiful brunet with curly hair who cares a lot for her appearance. She usually dress to impress, and tends to study people before approaching so that she can adjust her style to one's taste. When in a run, even though she does not like it, she can be practical; but if left to her own tastes, she favors a neo-noir style.
Personality/background:
Not one to go to action (if she has the choice), but to arrange the pieces in the tableboard. Eliza is something of a strategist who believes a hushed action is building weakness. She presents herself as a nice person; in fact, she has an easy time assensing some one and seeing how to affect he in the most useful way; a bit of manipulator, a bit interactions scientist.

Thomas Cain    "Thorn" Thorn made a life as a Seattle cabbie. He knows the streets like no driver, and is a good source of street gossip, if you got the patience to filtrate the useful info from the huge ammount of cheap driver philosophy he is always so eager to share.
Juan Alcalde "El Loco" A latino dwarf who knows where to get the better BTLs and pass then around. Rummored to be involved with various gangs, but never clearly sided with no one. As he says, being too compromised is not good for businness.
Michael Harvey    "Stitches" If you need a doctor who don't ask questions, that's the ork you need to go to. You may also find some nice cyber and bioware in his shelfs. The niche market he attends is the offical inexistent one, and his prices are usually low; or at least it seems so, since he knows most of his patients are quite useful to pay him with favors.

Name: Conrad Johnson
Alias: J
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Nationality: UCAS (Of Japanese ancestry but he doesn't know)
Lifestyle: Middle
Karma Spent: 0/0
Physical Description: A tall, slender man, with rather attractive features behind a thick beard, he doesn't shave unless he has to. Brown hair, blue eyes and usually a severe expresion of thoughtfullness thats often mistaken as scheming. His foci are three rings on his left hand, left to him by his dad.
Personality/background He had a good gig going. Was part of magical security for the main SK-P building in Seattle. He dealt with runners sometimes too, so he's heard the old "bottom line wasn't hit bad so let 'em live" line before. He was about to get his firearms training too. That all fell apart when his own Father was caught on camera in a maximum security lab, then vanished. All forensic evidence pointed at his father, even Conrad was forced to admit the signature was his father. "But how!?" He'd pleaded, "He's a fisherman, not even awakened!? How'd he get in!?"
Something important was stolen, something that hit the bottom line too hard and Conrad was laid off. With all his corporate bridges burned from suspicion he was lost.
Luckily he bought the right man a drink recently and the conversation quickly turned to making money.

Jackson always had a thing for going fast. Before the Crash 2.0, he was part of a well paid and respected group of delivery drivers, known for dodging certain street laws to get the deliveries dropped off as soon as possible. When the Crash happened, a good chunk of the team was lost in the Matrix, along with the rest of the team's SINs, and thus the group was disbanded. Traveling to Seattle for a new start, Jackson met his now best friend Lucas, and he met the Triad. Picking up a fake SIN after a few runs, Jackson now works as a delivery boy once again, both with a legit company, and with the Triad it fronts for. He doesn't tell Lucas of his shady dealings, but his friend has suspicions, but believes that if the biker thought the mechanic needed to know, he would tell him.

Jackson's other ally on these streets is the Street Doc Maggie, a good old woman who keeps him patched up and stocked on vaccinations as they are needed. It helps that she's the only person in the shadows he puts any trust in, given that she's an ex-doctor. Jackson has gained several fake identities since then, upkeeping two specific ones for his more legal interactions.

Name: Dirk Blackwater
Alias: Blackjack
Race: Ork (Human-Looking)
Sex: Male
Nationality: British
Lifestyle: Low
Karma Spent: 0
Physical Description: Blackjack has heavy facial features and brows, black hair speckled with grey, and slightly grey skintone. He has permanently-mounted matte black cybereye sunglasses. To the trained eye, it is noticeable that Blackjack has twin synthetic military-grade cyberarms. He wears an inconspicuous hooded duster that looks like it might have been woven from ruthenium fibers.
Personality/background He was just a recruit in the UK police force when the bomb went off. Nobody ever took responsibility, but it was largely assumed to be a faction of the Humanis Policlub. It was attached to a mailbox right outside a known metahuman club, and Dirk Blackwater was the unlucky soul who caught the blast. His face was battered, his eyes blinded, and his arms blown to shreds. Nobody gave him much of a chance.

He's in Seattle now, working as a "private security contractor". A Shadowrunner. The UK Policeman’s Fund managed to raise a significant amount of money on his behalf, and he survived the many surgeries that pieced him back together again. New arms, made to look like the originals, only stronger and faster. New eyes, but with senses that most people could only dream of. And a reconstructed face, evening out many of the ridges and lumps so common with ork goblinization, making him look uncannily human. His parents, now long deceased, were both respected athletes who had undergone genetic optimizations before he was born. They loved archery, and he was raised in a household where he was expected to practice every summer during breaks between school years.

Blackjack thinks of himself as something of a modern day Robin Hood, fighting to correct the gross inequities in the world, specifically the all-pervasive stigma against orks. His preferred method of robbery is to disable vehicles in-transit, especially Stuffer Shack trucks driven by dog-brain drones. Many a drone rig has been found in the alleys of Redmond with an arrow pinning its front wheel firmly to its wheelwell, contents pillaged by local poverty-stricken orks who were contacted anonymously through their PAN’s.

Blackjack chooses to do battle with longbow, crossbow, and studded mace. He is quite potent with clubs, having had strength added to his 'hitting' arm and armor to his 'shield' arm. His preferred weapon is the graceful and silent longbow. Both his sniper bow and his heavy assault crossbow are collapsable for easy transport, and include a variety of high-tech features. He uses his Dragonfly drones to extend his senses, allowing him to snipe at targets without them even being aware of his presence. The Dragonfly drones also enable him to disable vehicles by cutting and grinding their way through armor and into delicate electronics and engine components, giving him a secondary role as an anti-vehicular specialist.

The bomb did not leave him without some long-term damage, however. To this day, he hates working with explosives, and is completely incompetent with any kind of demolitions. The smell of burned gunpowder makes him panic slightly, and when the smell is thick in the air such as in the aftermath of a firefight he gets distracted more easily. He does not like to use firearms for this very reason, but does not fault others for their use.

Blackjack still has a SIN from his days in the UK police force, although he has not been back to his homeland in over a decade. His former colleagues used to send him messages from time to time asking how he’s been and what he is up to, but stopped bothering some time ago due to lack of replies. Dirk would like to forget those times, where his most vivid memories involve crying friends and family and long stays in hospitals, cyberclinics, and rehabilitation facilities.

He has been an outspoken critic of Humanis Policlub, and has worked against their goals whenever possible. While not to the point of taking up a bullhorn and shouting from the rooftops, he has been in more than one heated public argument with their supporters, several of which culminated with him dragging them out of pubs and “settling things outside”.

Lafayette (Snake Shaman)2/1
Buzzkill (Cyber Streetdoc)3/2
Skraacha Gang (Ork Gang, Ork Underground)2(6)/3

Contacts Descriptions:

Lafayette: Snake Shaman (information broker)
Blackjack has known Lafayette for years, and their relationship is still mostly about business. Lafayette is always willing to share secrets, but her price is usually measured not in nuyen but in favors or in quid pro quo confidential information. She loves to hear secrets, the more damaging and embarrassing the better. She will often use these secrets to protect herself by blackmailing or bribing her enemies, of which she has many.

Buzzkill: Cyber-specialist Street Doc
Blackjack has used Buzzkill's services to upgrade and maintain his cyberware systems, as well as to perform routine medical treatment. Buzzkill is a competent doc, but has fallen on hard times in the past few years, and maintains his "practice" in a shady basement rental space in the Redmond barrens. He received his training from his father, who was formerly one of the most respected physicians in Seattle. He and his father used to have access to betaware, but their suppliers have been unreliable at best ever since his father's medical practice went under due to reports that he was purchasing used deltaware cyberware from street harvesters.

Skraacha Gang: Ork Gang Organization (Ork Underground)
Blackjack has been involved with the Ork Underground Skraacha gang for as long as he can remember. Many of the vehicles that have been “liberated” over the years have ended up supplying the Ork Underground with medical supplies and food for the needy in the Ork community. His contacts in this particular chapter have district-wide influence (+1 connection rating) and have approximately 80 core members at any given time (+2 connection rating). They also have several magically active members (+1 connection rating). Blackjack can pass freely throughout the Trog's territory, and has been known to stash equipment and weapons in their secure lockers. It doesn't hurt that he buys them pizza every time he needs a favor, no matter how small.

Connection: 2(6) (Base 2 + Membership 2 + Area 1 + Magical Resources 1 + Matrix Resources 0)
Turf: Ork Underground
Colors: Brown and Gray
The Skraacha (means something like “Scorchers” in Or’zet) is a new gang that’s cropped up in the Ork Underground following the Crash. Formed initially from a group of young orks who banded together to help defend the Underground when everything went to hell all over Seattle, the gang has since evolved into a kind of combination neighborhood watch group (think of the old-style Guardian Angels) and vigilante squad with the aim of taking down anti-metahumans whenever possible. They often skirmish with anti-meta groups like the Humanis Policlub, and they pick up extra cash providing security to pro-meta rallies put on by folks like the Ork Nation.

Sweet. I Will post it here shortly. I need to put it into the 'standard format' before I do, so it looks better. And write a description, which I realized I never did @.@

(Leigh's background and information on Contacts)
Born in 2043, to Matthew (an elf) and Aillen (a human)Stark, in the Seattle Metroplex. The third child, and first daughter, of the family, Leigh was raised practically wtih a silver spoon in her mouth. As the CEO, and majority shareholder, of Stark Industries Matthew (Matt to his friends and family) was able to provide his children (eventually four sons and 2 daughters) with practically everything they could want; education, the best in clothing and entertainment, everything, and this led to them becoming somewhat spoiled. Indeed, through  high school Leigh was somewhat of a debutante.

What changed, is anyones guess... Leigh can't even pinpoint it. Suddenly, though, the lovely spoiled 'princess' became rebellious, and then some. Flaunting everything, she made life miserable for her teachers through college, her parents, even her friends and siblings. Hanging out with 'the wrong crowd', she learned a lot about the seedier, seemier parts of society she'd normally be barred from, even going so far as to enjoying evenings 'out' in the Redmond Barrens - not *just* Tourist Town...

Thus began Leigh's downslide into being the 'dark sheep' of the family. Uninterested in a position in the family Corporation, Leigh struck out on her own once she finished college at the age of 22, in 2065. Crash 2.0 provided the well-educated young elf-woman with all sorts of new possibilities, which is what led her to take leave. Of course, as intelligent as she is, she didn't fully severe ties with her family, although she doesn't recieve a lot of sympathy or support from them currently. That being said, she *is* a Stark and can occasionally call on her family for help.

Setting up a place in Downtown, Leigh then set out to build a new and differant life from what she knew - having already made contact witht he seemier side of life, the down-scaled neighborhoods... the criminal elements... Leigh threw herself into her black-sheep position. Although she had access to money, the elf made a point of rarely drawing on what she had access to, instead prefering to delve into the ways of this lower-class lifestyle she'd chosen to live. It didnt take her long to find 'work', first as a waitress at a seedy club (only a couple of 'steps' above 'dive'), then a little later as an 'exotic dancer' at the same club, known then as the Purple Vixen Club. The club was eventually burned to the ground after a rather large fight broke out between three rival gangs, which led Leigh to move on to a second club (and where she currently works, part time), the Silver Dragon Gentlemans Club (as a dancer and 'escort').

It was at this club, and through some of the people she met here, that she linked up wtih a number of people who would become important in her life, for good or for bad.  Principle among these were Terista Michaels (owner of the Silver Dragon), Alex Ference (a mechanic who lived in the same building as Leigh), Morgan Tallows (a lieutenant with Knight Errant) and most recently, a young but irritating private detective named Alan Riebert. More on these people later.

For four years Leigh lived this lifestyle (at-best Low), dancing at clubs and operating as a joygirl part-time, pickinng up the skills that will lead her to eventually becoming a shadowrunner. The young elf did keep sporadic contact with her family (who in-fact was keeping distant tabs on her via her contact in Knight Errant) but sought to 'make it on her own'.

The night where everything changed started out like any other... she had been walking home from work, about three am on a rainy night, when she stumbled across an injured orc, staggering out of an alley-way. Unhesitatingly she moved to aid him, and stumbled upon the remains of a 'Run gone bad. The orc (a samurai named Grieg) and his teammate (a rigger called Cablecar) along with Leigh fought off several goon security troops from a nearby corp research base in a running battle that eventually led back to her apartment.  The two 'Runners, impressed with Leighs courage under fire, quick thinking and surprisingly good shot, offered to take her under their wing if she wanted to 'get into the business'. Always looking for something new to learn, a new thrill, Leigh was eager to accept.

Thus began a Shadowrunning carreer that has to-date spanned three years. Drawing on her natural charisma and social graces, Leigh found she made an excellent 'team face', particularly once she got to understand the lingo of the ShadowWorld, the etiquette, and the way things are done. Grieg in particular worked closely with her, helping her to improve her combat and infiltration techniques, and even general fitness. Additionally, the two 'opened the doors', so to speak, to several of their own contacts which led her into the world of augmentation; indeed, Cablecar provided plenty of advice on what might and might not be useful for the eager young elf to aquire 'when she got the nuyen'.. not realizing she had a considerable bank-account already.

Leigh's carreer as a Shadowrunner is classified, burried deeply into the databases of numerous corps large and small, and the elf is reluctant to share tales of what shes seen, done and experianced. Not that she isn't proud, she just prefers to keep a somewhat lower profile, to keep the details to herself.  One such run does, however, bare mentioning.
It was her third 'Run, the extraction of a scientist from his former corp handlers to a new corp. The infiltration had gone more or less according to plan, up to and including recovering the scientist from his work-area. Unfortunatly, things began to go wrong at this point; a silent-alarm had been missed somewhere, and the three infiltrators were ambushed near a junction of three cooridors. After fighting off the inital wave of security, Leigh was isolated by the rest by a security door. Desperately searching for a way out, the elven 'Runner came across a number of what seemed to be captives locked away in some sort of living suite. Having no idea of who they were, Leigh released them (half a dozen in all) in an effort to sow some confusion to help cover her escape.

One of them was a young elf calling herself Lyon, who was a technomancer. Sensing a kindred spirit of sorts, Leigh let the technomancer tag along after her, even going so far as to arm her with a weapon recovered from one of the guards. With the technomancers help, Leigh was able to escape the facility and rendevouz with the rest of her team. Although Lyon left to seek her own life, free of the tyranny of the corp, the two remained in loose contact via the Matrix.

Contacts Info
Daniel Stark - Leigh's youngest brother by a year, and the sibling she feels closest to. The two spent a lot of time together when they were growing up, and it led to them mainaning close ties even after Leigh left.  This has been invaluable to Leigh as she enters her life as a Shadowrunner, giving her a contact within a what is hoped to be an up-and-coming major corporation. Additionally, Daniel is occasionally a source of work, providing the odd shadow-job. (Aware of Jenna McIntyre false ID)

Morgan Tallows - Leigh had the good fortune of meeting Morgan when she was a 'beat cop' working for Lone Star, helping the 'new to the streets' elf with some legal issues, and then later helping her deal with an assault. The two quickly became friends, having similar backgrounds and similar experiances on the street - Morgan chose a differant path, ultimately. When Knight Errant took over policing, Morgan managed to finangle a position with them as a sergeant, initially, but rose up to lieutenant rather quickly. The two remain friends, although Leigh's choice of becoming a Shadowrunner occasionally strains it. (hence the Loyalty rating of 3) (Knows of Leigh as Jenna McIntyre, but is also secretly aware of her true identity)

Terista Michaels - Currently the owner of the Silver Dragon, and the person who hired Leigh into her current 'day job' position, the two are close friends and occasional lovers. As a club owner and former Shadowrunner herself, Terista has contacts among the various criminal elements of Seattle and has been a frequent source of information, as well as occasioanlly providing a safe-house, for her companion. (Aware of all Fake IDs)

Alex Ference - A grizzled older dwarf, Alex has been a mechanic most of his life. Leigh was introduced to him through her old (now retired) friend Cablecar, and she has trusted Alex to look after her vehicle ever since.  (Aware of Jenna McIntyre false ID)

Kasey Finnigan - Leigh doesn't know a lot about Kasey, not even if that is her real name; Kasey is a fixer and a fence in the shadowy underworld, and as such tends to be secretive. However, the two have a pretty good working relationship to date, with a slowly building trust. (Not aware of false IDs)

Heather Lawrence - Heather was Leigh's room-mate all through college, and the two remained good friends even afterwards. Heather is married, and is a high school teacher in one of the private schools in Seattle.  (Not aware of false IDs )

Max Arden - Max is a 'wageslave' working for a local branch of the Horizon Group, and a 'client' of Leighs (in the guise of Jenna McIntyre, of course). Although barely middle-management, he's fairly well connected within his branch, and often has more information on hand than his branch manager. (only aware of Jenna McIntyre false ID, not true ID )

Tarra-Lynn Krupp - A lawyer at 'Harrison, Dalish and Krupp', Tarra-Lynn is the daughter of Max Krupp, one of the founding partners of the Firm. Tarra-Lynn specializes in corporate law in particular, but is also familiar with criminal law. Further, Ms Krupp is also the Trustee for LEigh's Trust Fund (which was set up by her great grandfather). Leigh and Tarra-Lynn have a primarily professional relationship, but over the  years a friendship has begun to develop. In addition, Tarra-Lynn is often Leigh's first call when she has need of a lawyer, or advice on the law or corporate matters. (Aware of Rebecca Ashmere false ID)

Derrick Cragtooth - An ork, Derrick is a lieutenant in a sprawl-side gang whoses members frequent the Silver Dragon, occasionally acting as bouncers and security for the girls who work there.  (Unaware of true ID, only Jenna McIntyre)

Jackson Bio, Take 2

Jackson grew up on the wrong side of Downtown Seattle as a kid. When the crash happened, he was lost in the chaos, being on a school trip. His SIN erased, he was kicked off the bus, being told only students could be there. Wondering the streets, almost dropping to hunger when an old chinese man offered him a deal: He'd feed the boy, and give him shelter, so long as he ran an errand. Gladly accepting the offer, young Jackson ate up and ran off with the package, never knowing what it was, even to today. Thus began a long career as a courier for the Triad, earning him respect among some of the higher ups. Officially, he now works the North Seattle routes, living in Everett proper. Effectively the 'manager' of his branch of the front business "Express Bike Delivery Group", Jackson does a lot of the jobs that come in, and business is good. He knows now that old man got him a good jumpstart into the shadows, and does what he can to pay his respects now, almost 20 years later. The real pay isn't that great, but he makes a lot of nuyen with shadow deliveries for his real clients, the Triad. He does do some other work for various corps and businesses, but he hasn't run against his loyalty yet, having earned a place in the Triad. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't yet work directly with his savior and "Grandfather", Linh Wai, but for a local underboss, Yung Ling, but he's doing his best to work as quickly up the ranks as a non-chinese can, and is helped by his Awakened status, being an adept.

Jackson does know that his family is alright, and that they miss him dearly, but he hasn't revealed to them that he's still alive yet, doing his best to insulate them from his new, shadowy work. Another person he does the same with is Lucas Yang, a Chinese orc who serves as Jackson's best friend, house sitter, and most importantly mechanic. Lucas knows there's something fishy with Jackson's work sometimes, but has come to believe that if it was to threaten him, Jack would say something to warn him. His girlfriend has other thoughts, thinking that he shouldn't be wasting his life in northern Seattle as a lowly bike mechanic, dealing with lowlifes who do nothing with their lives. Thanks to this, the two visit the local mechanic and bike themed bar, The Crank Shaft, often for brews and bullshit. The insulation is helped by the fact that Lucas only knows Jackson by the fake name of Roan, though even the slightly thick headed orc thinks somethings up with that name, given that he doesn't always answer to that, and twitches when he hears the typical "hey Jack!" line, such as when something's pissed, as though trying to prevent himself from answering it.

Last but not least is the woman who keeps Jackson's body fixed up, Miss Maggie. An ex-doctor for Doc Wagon, she helps out who ever she can, one of the few people outside of Wai that Jackson trusts in the underworld.

And the game is on! Every go over and "check in" to the thread. (http://forums.shadowrun4.com/index.php?topic=4884.0)

I won't usually go into detail this fine, in terms of the Johnson meet at least, once I get to know your characters a little better. For now, though, I'd like everyone to go through their response to this sort of thing.

Hmmm... I probably should roll for my starting nuyen amount.

4d6=16 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3191930/)

So multiplied by 100, I've got 1,600 nuyen on hand at character creation.

Made a couple tweaks as well.. dropped a little 'ware to get a better fake SIN and a couple licenses, I realized that I was going to have some problems just getting around, especially if we're playing a social-heavy game. Picked up two additional Dragonfly drones (6 total) with the remaining nuyen. Character sheet is updated in this thread.

Ditto. I forgot to put my lifestyle qualities on the sheet, plus I ditched the Vulcan, smart pack, 60 rounds of ex-explosion ammo and the aeronautics toolkit for a Horizon Double-Revolution. I figured with how far out he lives, he needs his own transportation to even get to other parts of Seattle.

Also, how do you want me to handle my Perfect Roommate? Should I RP her for anything mundane (daily activities and such) and leave you to run the times I'm trying to use her as a contact? Or should I not do anything with her and let you handle her completely?

Yeah, you "get" your relationship better, so go ahead and play the stuff where you don't really have anything to gain through the interaction. (I reserve the right to change my mind later)

So Eliza is currently carrying 1300¥.

Huh...why you rolling for cash Irregular? Your starting cash is what ever you want to give yourself after you finish gear shopping and have points left (up to that lovely 50k limit)

I don't think it works this way, Kylen. At leats, not by RAW. Look at Starting Nuyen, at SR4A Core Rulebook, pg. 88.

Yes, we are using RAW for this one, so go ahead and roll for starting cash.

Also, as a side note, everyone should probably have email notifications enabled on the IC thread. It makes this stuff happen much quicker.

Just informing: I posted Eliza sheet at the Character Creation and Critique section of the forum, and UmaruIV noticed I had one irregular item in my gear section (the googles had a final avaliability of 16R). I corrected this by taking one of it's functionalities out. Also, I had mistyped the rating of my Pistols skill (it was meant to be 1, but in the sheet I sent it was 2); I already corrected it too.

Just noticed: with the modifications, Eliza would have +6 dice to her Starting Nuyen roll (taking this gear out made me take 650 nuyen back).

I'm rolling these extra dice now, just to speed things up. If you think I should not, just inform and we ignore this last roll:

6d6 = 17, so it would be 1700 nuyen more, for a total of 3000ny. (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3192263/)

Huh. Never ever saw that there, and I've scoured the character creation area. I guess I'll go do that then.

might want to check that one again.. you get +1 to the result of your dice roll per hundred, not +1d. In this case, your total roll would be (4d6+6)*100, for a total of (13+6)*100, equals 1900 nuyen

Starting cash, x 100 (4d6=18) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3192320/)

1800 nuyen then. I just always heard left over gear cash turned into starting cash. *shrugs.

Edit: Oh hey, I get up to +12 to that roll for my left over gear cash. So that's 3000k start, which is more then what was left over. I'll take it.

Talon grew up outside of Portland in the Tir Tairngire nation. Bounced from job to job in his adult years, working in multiple professions from stuffer shacks to minor security. Growing up in Tir Tairngire, service to the nation was made a romantic notion and has become the life sought by Talon. His life long dream is to work with the special operations commandos in service of the nation. Talon has left his home to seek experience, and build a reputation as an effective arm of the Elven nations.

Over the last year his views have changed of the world outside Tir Tairngire. Things are not as awful as he grew up believing. And from the sound of things, things INSIDE Tir Tairngire are not as pleasant as they once seemed.

I modified my last post to make adjustments for Deliverator's character, Sharp, who arrived early to the restaurant to scope it out. Also, changed the description of Ironclad from 'ork' to 'heavily built man', because I forgot his human-looking quality.

No major changes, just a heads up.

I'd like to be a bit more specific about this weekend for me. I'll be gone most of Saturday, so I'll be able to respond to any post somewhat before 11am. After that, I probably won't be in front of an internet connected computer until evening-time Sunday (probably having slept for a decent chunk of it).

LARPing ho!

Also, pictures? Yes, please.

I figure once Mr. Johnson arrives we'll probably be spending a day or two on that conversation and negotiations, and that'll probably involve mostly Netzgeist and lwcoyote. So you should be alright. Just check in whenever you can.

All of my characters have had and will have my personal eating preferences. Which includes spicy deliciousness, but I think a negotiation requires a less... perspiration inducing meal?

On an unrelated note, I need to get a LOT better at making characters... 400 bp just isn't enough to be well rounded AND effective...

400  not enough to make a rounded and effective character?! My smuggler does like, 3 things well. I consider that fairly well rounded by SR standards. If you need your character to do EVEN MORE then that, then you need to scale back a little. A character that is good at 2-4 things is awesome. Better to be a master of a few trades then a Jack of All, in my opinion.

BTW Critical strike does not work without killing hands...

Critical Strike works both with and without Killing Hands, per the description below (bold added for emphasis):

Quote
CRITICAL STRIKE
Cost: .25 per level
This power uses magic to increase the Damage Value of your unarmed attacks, as you strike with more proficiency and power. Each level of Critical Strike increases the character’s Damage Value in unarmed combat by +1. Critical Strike may be used with Killing Hands (p. 196), and may also be used in astral combat. The use of Critical Strike must be declared with the Unarmed Combat attack.

Yep, I just double-checked my character sheet and I'll be damned but I'm 4 points over. I seem to have added up my skill points wrong. Everyone check your sheets and make any tweaks now before we get too far into this. If you're 20 points over then you have some major edits to make.

I don't know if I am the only one that got the memo, but according to StarManta he is not using the free contact points equal to cha x2 house rule.

Netzgeist, your character would need one more point into resources to pay for everything you purchased. 231550 spent 230000 bought with BP so you are over by one BP.
Title: Re: [OOC] Playing for Fools (Starting Wednesday!)
Post by: Thermo on <09-25-11/1411:31>
Just made some tweaks and reposted my character, did the following to make up for the 4 BP:

Added Genetic Heritage - Genetic Optimization (Agi), +10
Added SINner - United Kingdom, -5
Added Prejudiced - Humanis Policlub, Outspoken, -10
Raised my Trog Gang connection by 1 (15 members to 80 members), +1

Did a little tweaking on the cyberware and equipment, now have 4 Dragonfly drones instead of 6, added some agility to cyberarms, upped my fake SIN rating and my commlink rating

Now I'm legit at 400 BP! taaa daaaaaaaaaa!!

Actually Conrad Johnson is not over on his build. High five Chrona! <3

So how much trouble do you think I would be in if I completely redid my character? hehehe Don't think it would actually cause a problem as far as what we have done so far, but it would change my proficiency from unarmed (which is woefully underpowered/overpriced) to blades.

Strange, through my calculations, I spend just 229850 of my 230000; but I'll double-check and try to see what I've miscalculated.  If it is so, then I will take some gear off.

Well, I summed them up and come with 232550 nuyen, a little bit higher than even Deliverator's sum. I think it was because of the "1000 nuyen each" for my two Micro-Tapper Drones; I'm correcting it by erasing my Smart Jammer, the Googles, one of my concealable Holsters and 50 Security RFID tags. That's going to right it.

Yeah, we don't have any free contacts.

If I'd thought of it before people started submitting characters we would be using that rule, but if we changed it now it would result in everyone having to rebuild their character.

Well, it means I get to rebuild my character anyways, unless you're completely chill with me having those contacts/not rebuilding to a goodly chunk lower.

EDIT: Well, I seem to be 10 points over when I take away my free contacts. Star's choice as to if I lose 10 points in some way or just sit with it.

Sorry, had a bachelor party and full work schedule and stuff for the last couple of days. Ready to pitch the mission when you guys are.

If you guys bribe me with rep +'s I suppose I could be persuaded to let you have CHA x 2 free contacts BP. ;)

Edit: Up 2 points in 3 minutes? Alright. You get your free points :)

By the way, what should we add for our new Mr. Johnson contact? Might as well add him to our contacts list (as a freebie, of course) while we're updating characters to get within BP's

I generally don't add contacts until after the adventure is run (and in this case, you don't know his Connection rating either and it would probably be something of a spoiler).

If the job goes well enough that he'll want to contact you in the future, I'll give you info for him.

Nice. I just updated Eliza's sheet with the new rule into play.

The modifications fitted like a glove in the character's concept, and they were really a welcomed addition if the plan is to really be globe trotting after some runs.

Sorry I didnt post yesterday, I was out and about visiting family. Im back on the job now!

2xCha pts of free contacts? Awesome. That wont result in more BPs for me, cause IM acutally going to put them into contacts :D

People, no offense meant. Well, not OOC offense meant, that is; that's how Eliza is, I quite agreeable person at the outside (look that she has not said anything about anyone; I was just describing her thoughts), but a judging and cold manipulator on the inside.
Title: Re: [OOC] Playing for Fools (Starting Wednesday!)
Post by: lwcoyote on <09-26-11/1304:51>
No offense taken; Leigh isnt wet behind the ears, but by no means a veteran either. Also, Ada seems to be more skilled as a negotiator... Leigh's social skills lay more in line with gathering information, persuasion and misleading, so I'll mostly leave it to you ;)
Title: Re: [OOC] Playing for Fools
Post by: Netzgeist on <09-26-11/1456:00>
Invisible Castle seems to be offline again; I was going to start a negotiations attempt on the IC post, but I prefer to do it by the time the rolls will be available.

Well, even though the pay seem low, don't get greed, people. So far this seems the most interesting Johnson any character of mine encountered in quite a long time!

Edit: Just informing, my negotiations dice pool for this encounter is nothing less, nothing more than 18 dice.

Can we do a cooperative negotiation test? Isn't it like you add everyone's hits to the main negotiator's dice pool and hopefully land some extra hits on the effective negotiations.

The character sheet is redone with the new rules applied. As far as I can tell, I'm on spot for BPs.

StarManta, do you mind if I switch my Hacking and Gunnery skills? I wanted to ask b/c we've already started. The other changes were purely to spend the extra points I suddenly had.

With some exceptions, I generally only allow one person to assist on most social tests, because more people than that in a conversation tend to start fighting each other.

I was kinda thinking that we'd all meet up at the rendezvous in the Ork Underground, get a private room, and that's where folks can do their matrix research, send messages to contacts, develop plans for who's doing what on-site, etc. Sorry to jump the gun and walk out of the restaurant, wanted to get to a 'safehouse' so people could do their thing and come and go as they needed to

Finally settled on a picture for Dancer. Hope y'all like. I realize it doesn't necessisarily fit the sterotypical elf, but with one parent human and one parent elf (half-elf! hee!) I figured she'd have a touch of human features in her.

I found this picture among a collection of photos that a friend of mine gave me (he uses it for character pics for RPGs), so if t his is someone you know IRL, I apologize ;)

A Matrix Perception text would be called for. If you want to try to decrypt the message, roll for that. I'll posting the contents of the datastick soon.
Title: Re: [OOC] Playing for Fools
Post by: Netzgeist on <10-04-11/1447:12>
Well, so I will be doing one thing at a time:

First a Matrix Perception test:
4 (Computer) + 5 (Analyze Program) + 2 (Encephalon 2) = 11 dice
11 dice = 4 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3206689/)

Then, according to the info acquired, I will see if I'll drop into VR to decrypt.

Note, Cryptanalysis is an extended test with a threshold of (Encryption Rating x 2). Keep rolling as long as you would assuming you haven't yet succeeded; if/when you succeed, I'll retroactively ignore any rolls after you succeed. i.e. If you roll 8 times, glitch on the ninth, but actually succeeded by the seventh roll, then the glitch won't have happened.

Understod. I just edited the post with the test with two additional rolls. I think it will be enough.

Quote from: Cryptanalysis test

Initiate Cryptanalysis test = 3 (Electronic Warfare) + 5 (Decrypt) + 2 (Hot Sim) + 2 (Encephalon 2) + 2 (Math SPU) = 14 dice
First test: 14 dice = 3 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3206938/)
Second test: 14 dice = 5 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3207738/)  -        8 hits so far
Third test: 14 dice = 5 hits, no glitch (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3207739/)     -        13 hits so far
I think that's enough (could have beaten an encryption level 6); if it's not, tell me then I will keep rolling.

Yikes, sorry guys. A lot of stuff going on over here (quit a job, got a new one, careers, life altering decisions, bachelor parties, multiple in-person SR games, ramping up a new gaming/scifi/fandom convention for which I could potentially be the con chair.... all in the last week) and I've just completely forgotten about the game. I'll go post in the IC thread to get whatever you guys need from me done.

Hopefully won't happen again, but it might as some of those things and more come to fruition. As a general rule in the future for the sake of keeping the game moving, if I don't respond to a post of yours within ~24 hours, just go ahead and assume that everything you did in that post went according to your plan and continue, at least for the non-critical side plot and character type stuff.
