Shadowrun

There's a thread on DUmpshock covering this, and figured I'd start up a similar thread here (Especially as that one largely derailed into a conversation about whether or not a product like Street Legends was useful. Lets avoid that here... If you don't like/want/need Street Legends and won't use it, that's cool, but lets not thread crap here by telling us about that. Feel free to start up a "Street Legends is Useless " thread :))
So... What characters from Shadowrun do you want to see more of? Whether it's a Street Legends style write up, a 10 Jackpointers style, or whatever? These can be Jackpoint characters, old Shadowland characters ("Where are they now?"), or even characters from game fiction or adventures. And, most importantly, WHY do you want to see more about them?

I said it there and I'll say it here ... I want to know more about /Dev/Grrl, personally. There's a damn good story there.
-
Just thought of something (And here's better than there to ask it), what about inquiring about old ShadowLand posters/Cannon characters from the novels?
I'd like to know what happened to Argent and Peg, for instance. And more about Dirk and his techie chummer (Whose name escapes me right now, but posted to ShadowLand a few times as well.).
-
Netcat - What did she do to get on Jackpoint, and how's the little TM doing with pregnancy? And any more news on the cat?
/dev/grrl - Would love to know more about her.
Aegis - A throwback to the Shadowland days, he was pretty prominent in the Tir Tairngir supplement. Would like to know more about him.
Fastjack - I just would love to see what the full bio on him is.
Captain Chaos - An obvious choice if one does a 'Fallen Heroes' collection.
Hatchetman - Same as Cap. Would love to see some bios of the big names of days gone by.
Harlequin - Because we really could use more of the last Knight of the Crying Spire.
Deus - There are hints that he's out there, but I wanna know what happened to him, and the other uber-AIs!
Pax - If this slitch isn't dead, then it'd be good to know more about her.
Ehran the Scribe - Because it'd be interesting to see what people could come up with for him.
Non-metahuman Sapient Runners - Nagas, Centaurs, and Pixies, oh my!
Ghostwalker & the other great Dragons - Because knowing more about them means it is easier to keep from getting in their way.
-
Okay, first things first: Is there going to be a PDF-Only update to Street Legends including some of the write-ups from the GenCon Tourney (i.e. Ryan Mercury, Arsenal, NetCat, et al)?
As for who I'd like more info on:
#1) Captain Chaos - I have my own story for his "comeback", but I'd like official word on what's going on with the ol' man/e-ghost.
More info on the Puck storyline, to be sure. What's he up to and has he found what he was looking for?
For the current crowd, I'd like to know more about 2XL, Plan 9, and /dev/grrl. And how about clarification on whether FastJack's daughter is/isn't the Peri at the Denver Nexus (I believe she isn't, but there's not really anything concrete one way or the other).
For the "Where are they now?" aspect. Give me info on Neon Samurai and his one-man-war against lasers, Pyramid Watcher and his one-man-war against the Azzies, Dragonslayer and his one-man-war against dragons, ANY detail at all on Pendragon, and possibly/maybe/if-its-cool-with-the-boss a story or two on Fatima's family (maybe a nephew/niece/son/daughter that is following in her footsteps)?

From the GenCon tourney, I can tell you a little bit on Argent & Ryan Mercury. Seems that when Ryan went looking for Nadja, he got caught by a band of rebels/warlord's scum/whatever down south of the border. They tossed him in a pit to fight a la Gladiator, so they could broadcast the TriD and make a lot of nuyen. Unfortunately for them, the opponent they tossed in with him was Argent. The two of them proceeded to break out of the pit, take care of the rebels and make their way back to civilization.

Being new to the francise I am now curious about stuff that I'm not sure i'm ready to run in my games. Particularly I was looking over Harlequin's Back, the cross over between a system I've never played Earth Dawn is it? And shadowrun, I like mysteries and trying to figure them out so Harlequin's got me scratchin my head quite a bit. So I'd like to find out more about this mystery elf because he intrigs me.
Being new i'm still learning a bit of the personalities out there. Fastjack seems like an interested character with a lot of history out there so I want to know more about him, since he seems to be a "Veteran" type person. :D
-
Earthdawn and Shadowrun used to be made by the same company. While Shadowrun is the story of the Sixth World, Earthdawn is the story of the Fourth. Think D&D, with Lovecraftian horrors running around causing all sorts of trouble.

Just as a note, there are 64 JackPoint users. There have been another 70 guest users or contributors whose material was posted through someone else (mainly Butch in Augmentation).
I just noticed a couple when looking at Fastjack's (the mod) Shadowland Authors pdf.
- Diabolique, who broke the existence of Dunk's Watchers
- The Gingerbread Man, because he's the damn Gingerbread Man
- Red Wraith, who's still fixing in Brussels and northern Europe as of Spy Games
- MissTick, the "street witch" from Target: UCAS, and Not Alachia as per Loose Alliances
- Tish Bite, the vampire who isn't Martin De Vries
- Chuck-Chuck Razool, who might be dead
- Connie Connoiseur, because she can get into any shadow haunt, anywhere
- Intern, because he's got an interesting perspective on running
- Kernel, cyberlogicians and savant characters are neat
- Kestrel, female but less sociopathic version of Haze
And some Posters:- Neon Samurai, did he find justice
- Nightfire, the life of a sell-out
- Peregrine, Renraku
- Priest, It's Priest.
- Reality Czech, old-timer who had a good amount of skepticism about the world
- Santiago, who actually worked for Aztechnology
- SPD, because he's the only Shadowlander older than FastJack
- Doctor Bones, AKA Steven Ridgemont
- Spes, see where he landed after the Tir shakeup
- Sidewinder, the noob decker from "Plus ça change ..."
- Jane-in-the-Box, Dunk's decker
- Grey Knight, AKA Col. Lloyd Ritter
- Demonseed Elite, to drag Jay back into the pool
- Victoria, find out how she pulled off that sneak in NAGRL
And a couple of JackPointers:
- Hard Exit, she seems cool. Ex-Lone Star and CAS military
- DangerSensei, who is a mystery man
Outside of posters, the last big one is Ryan Mercury, because Fuck You
-
2XL - Probably has some great stories.
Butch - Always need to know about the person patching you up.
Clockwork - Is there something behind his utter hatred of the Emerged?
Frosty - C'mon, anyone who hangs with so many movers and shakers has to have some fun tales to tell.
Mihoshi Oni - Gotta love the guy.
Smiling Bandit - Just because.
-
Mihoshi is a woman.
-
I really liked Street Legends, and will use it in my game (although some names will change to protect the survivors). I was disappointed with 10 Jackpointers lack of stats. I've always liked Man-of-Many-Names after the story of him summoning a Man of the Woods in Paranormal Animals of North America.
I would like to see Netcat, Slamm-O!, and the kid. More on Fastjack. Really anything that gives me story ideas, or just make life as GM easier (NPC Stats) is always nice.
-
Unfortunately for them, the opponent they tossed in with him was Argent. The two of them proceeded to break out of the pit, take care of the rebels and make their way back to civilization.
Wow. That was action-movie villain stupid.
As for the Street Legends supplement, I think it's okay to say that one is in production.
-
Ironically, I don't want to know everything about FastJack. I mean, I'd love to have his full bio and stats, but I know that after reading the info, I'd get real depressed about a secret being brought to the light. Right now, all we know is that a) he's a guy, b) he was born in 1999 and c) he's got a daughter and some nieces. Oh, and that he can kick the ever-lovin' hoop off anything in the Matrix.

And from Seattle 2072 we also know that he received Saelestra's 'Good morning, World' message/email/filedisk.
A character I'd like to see an SR4 update on would be Cinder (Renraku Arcology Shutdown, Threats 2). She was an Otaku present when Deus' minions attacked Shadowland and after the Shutdown she was targeted by Pax who said she could 'hear the ressonanace and the dissonance'. And just because there's got to be a story behind the green... Clockwork.
-

That actually predates 2072 by a fair bit. FJ posted that bit waaaaay back in 2nd ed, I think. Denver Boxed Set, maybe?
And looking at everyones lists... Hehe. Cool. :)
My personally, I want an update to Jack Skater and his team from the Mel Odom novels.

Yep. Denver Sourcebook, p.73.

Perri has that ability in the SR4A story, Happy Trails. And Perri has rotated through a ton of names.
So there's that.
I should send Jay an e-mail.

Is Perri a different person than Peregrine? I'm assuming so, but it's a bit convoluted...

Everytime I see someone talk about Peri/Perri, my first thought is "Perianwyr" :)
-

Usually mine is too. Which adds in that much more confusion when you're not quite sure who's posting... ;)
-
I always thought Peregrine/Perri is the same as Fastjack's daughter, who is the same as the sysop at the Nexus. Partly because she gets away with calling him Jack in Spy Games, while Sticks gets booted.
-

That was my thought too. I thought Sticks was booted from Jackpoint, but he was posting in Street Legends.
-
There's "Booted" as in kicked off completely, and "Booted" as in kicked offline. He was just knocked offline and probably given a serious case of Dumpshock for good measure. Only really good friends of FastJack (No, the other one) gets to call him "Jack".
-

Well, see Peregrine was part of the Resistance in the Arcology back when Deus shut it down in 2060. She was 17 then and spoke about how she lived in the Arc and her dad was a company man. Now, it is possible FastJack works for da man, but she didn't know if her dad was alive or dead when she escaped the Arcology. If FJ's her dad, then I'm sure that he'd let her know as soon as she started broadcasting on Shadowland.
Now, Perri, the technomancer SysAdmin at Denver's Nexus, is apparently the same Perri introduced in Target: Matrix to make the Otaku "public" to Shadowland there. Apparently this is FastJack's daughter, which makes all of Emergence and everything that MUCH more interesting in Jackpoint.
There's never been clarification that they aren't one and the same, and they're both about the same age (at least, the Perri from Target: Matrix in 2055 "sounds" like she's about 12). That would put them both at around 30 in 2073. And about 21 in 2064 when Crash 2.0 hit, which again seems like the right age since Perri's in (a) University at the time. But nothing says they are/aren't one and the same (at least nothing in the books or here I'm not that active on Dumpshock, so I don't know if anything was revealed there).
-
Perri, the otaku (who is also FJ's daughter), was actually introduced in the Denver box set. Notice how protective he is of her in there.
-
I doubt FastJack is Perri's biological daughter. She doesn't even call him "dad" until the end of Happy Trails when he kills the piece of Jormungand trying to eat her.
There's no way Peregrine is Perri. Remember, the first generation of otaku were forgotten, abandoned children who had no families. They made the Matrix their homes, and their tribes were their families. Also, at the time most otaku were concentrated in the Denver Data Haven. Worrying about her father would not be an issue because I doubt she ever knew her real father. If there were otaku in the SCIRE, they were Banded or they were the rare otaku a runner team going into the arc might have with them. Or they're Overwatch, who operated outside of the Arc.
-
I was impressed with FJ locking the then Nexus sysops out.
Was who or what was introducing the Otaku to the "Deep Resonance" and the "Complex Forms" (Denver: City of Shadow Box set, Players guide page 87).
-
It was never said, but I have my suspicions.
-
Well, Deus certainly had his own otaku, and didn't Mirage make some more?
-
My brain hurts. And, no, it's not part of a back-up of Dues.
-
When Mirage was going by Psychotrope, she made five and killed a whole bunch of people. It turned out that to make otaku, specifically adult otaku, the subjects needed to have some sort of near-death experience.
Anyway, Mirage/Psychotrope turned five deckers—Red Wraith, Dark Father, Bloodyguts, Lady Death (AKA Hitomi Shiawase), and one other who I can never remember—in the Seattle LTG into otaku on March 19, 2060 when it took over the entire Seattle LTG for ten minutes. Deus' minions killed Dark Father and Bloodyguts. Shiawase was kidnapped but later returned. Red Wraith escaped (he is a badass) and is still alive and kicking in northern Europe.
-
Yeah, I never believed that Perri = Peregrine but, like I said, nothing was ever said that they weren't. ;)
I like that Red Wraith is still alive and kicking.
-
Yeah. He gets name checked in Spy Games, p.96.
-
I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Kham! Heck, someone could take the Sons of Kham group as a contact. The story could maybe be listed as complete since, as an ork, he's possibly dead of old age by now.
Oh, the Anonymous Jackpoint poster, too.
-
Oh, the Anonymous Jackpoint poster, too.
Well, that's a given, natch.

Kham is, I think, dead. Don't remember where I'd seen this though.
Oh, the Anonymous Jackpoint poster, too.
Heh
-
Last we heard, Kham was in an old orks home. (Runner Havens, Page 99).
-
Most everybody I would want to see has been posted already with one exception; Smokin' Jo. His posts in Paranormal Animals of Europe made me laugh and inspired me to use more paracritters in games.

I actually had to read this one completely; didn't think it was true. Ah, well. :) Some people are just born unlucky.

Just a point here -- Peregrine was 17 during the Arc Shutdown of 2059; if Perri was 12 in 2055, she'd've been 15-16. Close in age, but the two are definitely not the same.
Not ... exactly. The Denver Data Haven was the most distinct (and thus semi-accepted as being 'the first') collection of them, back in the Denver: City of Shadows boxed set that's placed in 2055; by the time the Arcology closed its doors for the Wannabe's experiments, there were otaku worldwide. Remember that Jay's background on Demonseed Elite (on SL6) was that he was originally from an otaku group in India; as well, there are canonical tribes in at least Boston at the time, and if the 'survivors' of broken tribes were recruited to make up the sub-groups of Overwatch (which, following the then-rules for tribes, is what they had to have been) it means that there needed to have been scores of otaku tribes worldwide.
IIRC, the DDH actually had two -- one of technoshamans, the other of cyberadepts. They tended to keep apart, but didn't really dislike each other, per se.
I doubt FastJack is Perri's biological daughter. She doesn't even call him "dad" until the end of Happy Trails when he kills the piece of Jormungand trying to eat her.
This is one of the reasons why I actually think that Perri is Jack's biokid. Her irreverence for him (specifically in calling him by his given handle) would be both a natural rebellion of a child which was abandoned (or even never known of) by their father, and the sort of professionalism / detachment of a Matrix-centric individual. After all, naming real names or relationships can be Very Dangerous in the shadows.
However, note that the Jormungand here is a very, very limited one -- a baby, in fact. I have no doubt that at the start, plenty of corporate deckers / decker teams waxed Jormungand, And then it respawned, bigger and nastier than ever, the way it did with Fastjack. The only reason he could put it down for good was that he was in a secured and isolated system that held the code egg. If it hadn't, he'd've been eventually whacked as it grew beyond the limits of what he could have handled, into the colossal juggernaut that is described in System Failure. You kill it, it respawns, bigger and nastier than before.
Of particular interest is the fact that this follows, in almost every particular, the story of Thor (old man, hammer -- which returns to him, eh?) battling the Wyrm Jörmungand at Ragnarök, the Doom of the Gods. Thor is destined to slay the serpent by smashing its head, but will be poisoned by its venom, taking nine steps and dying as well, which is essentially what happens in "Happy Trails". Pax, in this, plays Hela, who (oddly) welcomes him to Valaskjalf, Odin's hall of the slain, in which rests his high seat. Would have made that Éljúđnir (Eljudnir), Hela's hall in Niflheim. Also, Gunningagap is the primordial void between Niflheim (ice) and Muspell (fire), the void into which the rest of the universe is created. While declaring that the IPO was 'Critical mass. Ground zero.' it would have made more sense to refer to the future event as being Ragnarök, during which all of what was old is destroyed, and after which the universe is created anew -- or at least transformed ...
-
Aside from the usual suspects for JackPoint users (like Fastjack, dev/grl, etc.), older Shadowland users (Captain Chaos, members of the Denver Data Have, etc.), and some big names (Ehran, Buttercup, etc.) ... I'd like to see some glimpses into some of the "rank and file" Shadowrunners and what they post and where they post it (what has filled Shadowland's void?)...because it's fun to watch the noobs that survive grow into the prime runners and in 2031 I hope to get the newest Shadowrun book at be able to say "I remember this runner posting in a book that came out in 2012. Hey you kids! Git off mah lawn!"
-
I'd like to know what happened to some of the old posters you don't see as much, if at all. What happened to Nuyen Nick and SPD, for example? I love their information dumping in the sourcebooks.
I'd like to see more of Lyran. She doesn't seem to poke her head out of her enchanting shop much.
-
Probably because that dragon is likely still pissed at her for taking a tooth.

NUyen Nick, Chromed Accountant, and the rest seem to have gotten more rare as the number of economics-trained writers thinned. :) I don't know if there are any at this time. I've had a class or three, but it isn't on my list of minors, let alone major.
(I will leave these two things here, however. You're welcome.)

As for Lyran, she got an excellent write-up in Street Legends, where she wound up being a different character than I had in my head. I had her pegged as a human, instead of a Dwarf, not Awakened, failry small-time, and for some reason middle-aged or more. So, imagine my surprise when the book arrived and I took a gander. D'oh!

Bah, as Breaking Bad has taught us, all we need to do is look it up on Wikipedia. ;D

Lyran is in 10 JackPointers.
I haven't really had much of a reason to discuss economics, but also my concentration was in international trade and macroeconomics. I don't have the aptitude for financial tricks, as evidenced by how badly Corporate Tax Law kicked my ass. I'm also not inclined to spend word count lecturing at the reader, though I did throw some walls of text at them in early drafts of CT because I do know about dirty tricks in politics.
-
Me I'd like to knw more about Kat o'Nine Tales and a pic too. Probably because my oldest (still alive) character is also on the Music Scene. :P

D'oh! on Lyran. I got Jackpointers just before Street Legends and I think I'm going to keep conflating the two until it gets beaten into me as to who sits where. Grf.
As for the econ ... remind me to pick your brain down the road. I didn't get as far as I would have liked and might have to hurl some questions at you in a blue-water sense.

I love it!! And not only because it would take an experienced Drake to match Argent . . .

More information on Scale.

I would kind of like to know what happened to Dodger after Crash 2.0.
Talon also seems to have fallen off the map (especially sense he was the one who might have set Ghostwalker free.)
-
Talon is written up in Street Legends.
-
I'm with you on wanting to know what happened to my favorite elf, Dodger. I would also LOVE to hear anything regarding what happened to Captain Chaos.....Hmmm time to read the Renraku shutdown again lol.
Also after finally scoring a dead tree version of the novel Worlds Without End, I also throw my hat into the ring for more harlequin!
-
Well, judging by the answers here... i think at leasta couple of you will be happy with the Street legends Supplemental coming up. :)
Or, you'll hate us for it. one of the two.

Part of me would love for Harlequin to write his own write-up, Street Legends style.

Oh, yes.
Aina Dupreč -- me, I don't think she's really dead -- and Arleesh. Of everyone in the world -- including the showoff Harlequin -- I think those two have common cause. I definitely have a proposal regarding those two ...

Everyone seems to have a proposal. ;D

I missed the window on Street Legends 2, I think.
Maybe I'll get for #3. :)

Depends on what it's for. Stats are a blessing and a curse. And something about half the folks want, and half don't want.
I think stats can help give the character a bit more dimension. You can't always fit into a write up that Character X likes to doodle comics in his spare time, either due to word count (the dreaded word count!) or because it just doesn't fit thematically. But you can slip Artisan (Comics) and Knowledge (Comic Art) in their stat block.

I now want stats for Little Suzy the Stray Bullet Magnet! ;D
-
It would amuse me to see Puck do a writeup on Pax and Deus.
-
As a GM I like stat blocks, all it takes is a pencil to change Bull to Ox , a Cutters personal assistant to the VP.
-
I'd like to know more about...
Puck. What the HELL happened to him? Nevermind that his handle is the name of my favorite character from Shakespearean plays and I pay closer attention to anyone named 'Puck', I genuinely wanna know more.
Clockwork. He's an ass, but every story has one and needs one. What the hell is his deal and what's the bug up his ass?
/dev/grrl. Her write-ups in Attitude make me kinda curious. How did a relative newbie to the shadows get an invite onto Jackpoint, and why? Especially for someone so young...
I hesitate to say it. Ghostwalker and Lofwyr. Great Dragons in general. Or maybe release several transcripts of interviews with Dunkelzahn that cover Great Dragon lives. Very, unbelievably curious about the dragons.
-
Clockwork (along with Ma'Fan, Sticks, Picador and NetCat) all have write-ups in Runner's Companion, although they are not stat write-ups, but simple profiles.

...Funny how I never noticed that before. I've never gone past page 166 in RC. I feel bad now for not having noticed that.

I want stats for Clockwork.
That way, if I ever play, I can hunt the slot down and punch the clock. A lot.

I said it there and I'll say it here ... I want to know more about /Dev/Grrl, personally. There's a damn good story there.
I second this. I think it would be interesting to get background on her motivations not to mention her back story.
-
I would like to get information on some of the IA's that are running around 2072 just to scare the crap out of my PCs. *Grins Evilly*
-
Usmondo, Hecate, Lady of the Court, and Jungle Cat would all be interesting to learn about. Looking through the old Aztlan book, I know about Big D, Laughing Man, and Wordsmyth. Who ever hacked and posted that conversation would be interesting too.

I thought that was obvious. But then, I thought the Arcology situation was obvious, too...
These are the beans.
Feel free to spill them. :)
-
Well, considering I thwapped someone else for just such a sort of thing ...
IMO, the main 'mystery guest', the one giving the orders there, was Dunkelzahn himself. The Big D was not the sort of individual to gather together such a notable crowd for the purposes of commentary just for them to comment among themselves; in previous fiction (when he went to talk to Harlequin, with Frosty there) it was made clear that he wanted to tell the world quite a bit more than they already had, but the Laughing Man talked him out of it. Doing so 'anonymously', with himself as a supposedly equal victim, is just the right amount of twistiness.
The other guest (IIRC, there's only two) is an otaku -- speaking about 'channels' and all, that's pretty obvious. Specifically which otaku does not, I think, matter, but considering how many info-pies Dunkelzahn had his talons in, it would not surprise me if he had enough connections with one, or many, otaku who would be willing to do just such a thing for him. Probably without pay, just on a lark ...

Clockwork is my #1, hands down!
Arleesh is long overdue for some lovin', and I agree that we want to know what Dodger's been up to.
Also, how about Sally Tsung?
-
Wow, Sally Tsung, that is an old school one. have not heard much from her sense SR1.
If you do Sally Tsung you might as well do Ghost as well.
-
We know that Dodger had the whole Morgan/Megera thing and was there when Deus went kerblooey at the Novatech IPO. The chance of survival there is pretty low, but, I hope he lived, if battered. Maybe he's one who got uploaded and he and some shred of Morgan ran off to a private corner of the Matrix and are living happily ever after.
Ghost is either dead or retired ... the world isn't kind to reaction times as you age, and a slow samurai is a dead samurai. Maybe he now serves as a sensei? Passing on lessons to a new generation, since he can no longer do it himself?
As for Sally, she might still be active, sine magic tends to grow, not shrink, as you age, but she's another one that might well be retired at this stage. Maybe a Talismonger, maybe searching for young street mages and gathering them up into some kind of school program?
All pure speculation with no evidence, natch. I just like the idea of them passing on lessons to the next generation. Shadowrun's been around for over twenty years (25 in-game!) and torch-passing is important. Gotta pas sthe love on for a new bunch of newbies, neh?
-
Hey, come on now, what about Deckers? FastJack is in his 70s and he's still the best around. Bull's in his 40s, and is cranky. :P
-
But lets face it. Bull's a fixer now and FJ is running Jackpoint. They can still throw down, Virtually, but... They are passing on their knowledge and their expertise in one form or another now. Wak's got a point.
-

...which is kinda why I want some canon info on both Sally and Dodger. There are tons of opportunities to put them at important positions 'behind the scenes' somewhere.
-

Some time in a black clinic in Chiba, and they'll be back to fighting trim and ready for the next half-century!
-

You miight notice I didn't mention Deckers. :D
But, yeah, there comes a day in everyone's life where it's time to move from the starring role to a supporting role. Some 'Runners retire, some go to teaching, some go legit, while others turn into company men/Johnsons/join organized crime. Others wind up dead or in jail. There're even a few well past their prime who can't give it up, even though they're as much of a burden, now, as a help. They never built up a nest egg, they never had that One Big Windfall, and they need to keep running to pay the bills and upkeep their addiction, be it BTL, booze, or the pure rush that comes from living life on the edge. But their luck has to run out eventually...

Make your own luck.

Street Legends Supplemental is now out with 10 new characters, including a few from this list.
Including Damien Knight, Slamm-0!, Kane, and Harlequin, plus more. Good, good stuff here. :)
-
Wow, that's a great collection. I was most impressed by the Kane-story; I didn't care much the character before, but that was one nice sale.
And I absolutely love that H has finally a write-up; he's been a fixture of my sixth world since the Harlequin adventure.
As far as I'm concerned, this could become a semi-regular release, every 8 to 10 weeks with 10 new faces from Jackpoint and all over the world.
-
Still missing the write-ups from Gen-Con, though... ;)

If sales are decent enough, we'd love to make this a regular thing. The Freelancers are already lining up who we'd like to do for another one.
And glad you liked Kane. He was a LOT of fun to write up, and I'm looking forward to seeing where he goes from here. (And I won;t name names to avoid spoilers, but it was also fun to give another Jackpointer some more character at the same time. I think the two will make a really fun team down the line :)
-

Yeah. Most of those are good candidates for the next one, if sales warrant another Supplemental.
-

I need to read this one.
Then, I'll see about who's been left out.
Because, you know ... I'm down with this. :)
(Then again, I also have a few other ideas in my head for "Ten X" subjects. Remind me to bounce 'em up the chain later.)
-
Who's been left out? Fastjack, Ghostwalker, Ehran the Scribe...
-
Off the top of my head, Jackpointers who need written up (because they get used a LOT or because they're interesting) still include:
Netcat
Pistons
Kat o' Nine Tales
Plan 9
Snopes
Glitch
Riser
Man of Many Names
Butch
Dr. Spin
2XL
That's just names from Jackpoint that I'd like to see done up and think need it, not a list of what's coming up in the next book (if there is one).
Besides them, there's plenty of current movers and shakers (The other dragon, immortal elves, and corp CEOs) that could easily be included.
Plus I'd love to see more updates about older runners and characters. Pretty much anyone from the novels and any major old Shadowlander.

At some point, Ryan Mercury and Argent have to be published.
-
Man of Many Names was in 10 Jackpointers.
Riser was in there as well, true. I tend to forget about 10 jackPointers. I need to give it a reread.
-
How the hell are you going to be able to write Plan 9? You know he's got a dozen plans to prevent that from ever happening!
Only two involve tinfoil!
-
Fianchetto said it best in Conspiracy Theories. You wanna get in with the conspiracy theorists, get them to give you all the info they have, even (especially) the stuff they don't know they have, then you gotta talk the talk, and earn their trust. I'd expect that Fianchetto, Thorn, /dev/grrl, Fastjack, Puck, or Netcat could probably get the truth out of him. Fianchetto and Thorn are the spies, getting info is what they do. /dev/grrl has proven herself to be more resourceful than people give her credit for, and she did the fashion guide with Plan 9 for Attitude. Fastjack is Fastjack. Nuff said. And Puck and Netcat are walking conspiracy theory magnets, so they could simply trade a couple stories for the info.
-
Netcat is odd, just because in the one story where she goes into the Deep Resonance while on an IV drip, she looke dmore like an Orc, but her write-up and other stuff says she's an Elf. So, my head's been off on her for forever. Pistons, I thought was a guy.
Clearly, these are two people that I don't need to write for. :)
-
Netcat's picture in Runner's Companion is just bad. But then again, you can say that about almost all the artwork in it (Which is a shame, because it has one of THE best covers).
Recently someone asked, after seeing Slamm-O's pic in SL: Supplemental, how he ever bagged Netcat. My answer was "Have you seen Netcat's pic in Runner's Companion? Obviously charisma was her dumpstat" :)
-

When showing off Shadowrun at JimCon, I had the pic of Netcat with the subtitle "Elven Chicks in their Underwear, Sexy no?" (I couldn't bring all my books, so I brought some examples of stuff.).
It was the most popular poster I made. ;D (I gave full props to the people who made it, and didn't claim I did anything at all, I assure you folks.).
-
"It's still a Charisma 3, you fraggers! I was havin' a bad day!"
*unleashes sprites on everyone*
-
Hey, I liked the pictures of Netcat in that book. Thought she was kinda hot almost. ::)
-
Just imagine how someone without an innate Charisma bonus would look after going into the the 'trix so deep they need to hook up to IVs and such ahead of time.
-
They'd look better than when they first started. ;D
-
Yeah, pretty much anyone who spends an extended length of time laying in one place hooked up to an IV is going to look like hell afterwards.
-
I'm going to put in bids on a couple of old Shadowland folks: Buzz and Dragonslayer. Even though currently the 'irrational bigot' slot is filled by Clockwork.
There was a reference to Dragonslayer having been done in by gang violence, but it's that (supposedly now defunct) dragon-hunting outfit that intrigues me still - especially with the hints about Sirrurg hunting them down.
And there were times when Buzz approached Plan 9's level of wackiness with his anti-meta stance.
-
Dragonslayer got killed, but I'm not sure of the who and how. It *might* have been the Knights of Rage. His old Dragonslaying locale got chewed up and spit out as well. Was it Fatima? Or Goat Foot? One of those two were going to pick up the gauntlet after a dragon (Hestaby?) gloated a bit about the Dragonslayers getting crunched.
Now I have to remember where. System Failure? Emergence? Hrm. Hmmm...
-
Fatima died in Ghost Cartels, I think.
-

Yeah, a Tempo fiend got her.

Could happen, the personalities are very opposing at times.
But, honestly, if there's any inkling that it's being arranged, well, I think Anonymous put it best. ;D

James, apparently you need to use your sarcasm tags more.
CanRay, Horizon has been trying to push members of JackPoint into taking each other out. This is the main reason for the sanding mission against them from Conspiracy Theories.

Riser and Man Of Many Names were in 10 Jackpointers, not that it wouldn't be nice to see some stats on them as well as profiles.
I heard someone mention somewhere (can't recall now) that Netcat has a writeup in Corporate Intrigue. I've yet to get that one so I can't verify it.
Frosty/Jane Foster had a writeup in Artifacts Unbound, along with Jenna Ni'Fairra (AU is an awesome book full of crunchy goodness!) SeaTac Sweetie was in there too, near the beginning, IIRC.
Arete is one I've always been curious about and I don't think he's had writeups in anything as yet.
Others include: Beaker, Clockwork (because everyone wants to Punch the Clock, Danger Sensei, Ethernaut...those are some specific ones I could mention, along with some others.
One thing I'd really like to see is a Street Legends-esque book full of antagonists. The Supplemental looks like its got some good ones in there, but what are the chances of seeing a book dedicated specifically to such folks? I know my preference would be a range of low-mid powered opponents/adversaries all the way to scary ones, like Alachia.
-
I want to know more about the Smoking Mirror.
-
I'll second that Mirikon. It would be very interesting to hear what they've been up to since the canon? demise of Senor Oscuro/Darke. At least I seem to recall hearing that he died. I unfortunately haven't gotten a chance to locate/purchase Beyond the Pale as yet. It's relatively low on my current list of priorities.
A little more info on the Primiera Vaga sp? Cabal that was backing Tempo in Ghost Cartels would be interesting as well. Especially since, ostensibly, these two cabals are on different sides of the Aztlan-Amazonia war. A Side-by-side comparison of the two would make one hell of an article.
-
Having thought about it while replying to the 'kill a dragon' thread -- Haesslich. He should be brought back, especially since he had what they call a 'mysterious death' -- no body recovered, dove into the Sound, etc. etc.
-
Wait a minute, I remember reading about Haesslich's body being recovered, by United Oil. Reference New Seattle s/b, pg 88. Of course, you may be right - there's been no follow-up to state either way.

I got one for you... From the old novel Wolf and Raven... I'd like to see Wolfgang Kies stated out. What the hell was he? Sorry for taking it that old school, but it's always bugged me.
-

A Wolf shaman/adept, before the rules for shamen and adepts were really nailed down. Wolf and Raven was written very, very, early in Shadowrun's real-world history.
-
The official party line when the Wolf & Raven stories got republished in novel form (They originally appeared in Challenge and White Wolf magazine, I believe, several of them before SR1 was released) is that Wolf is a Physical Adept who followed a shamanic totem (Wolf, natch). he was not a caster in any form, he just followed a Totem and thus had a Wolf Shamanic Mask that manifested when he used his abilities.
I loved the concept, and I've been pushing to have it injected as a fully realized idea into Shadowrun for years now.
-
(And just to be clear, the novel was published around '97/'98 or so, as I recall. The original Short Stories date back to '89 though. outside of some of Charrettes stuff, they represent the first Shadowrun fiction produced.)
-
Speaking of, when do we find out more about Raven and his team?
And when do we get more Wolf fiction? ;D
AND NOVELS!!!

Challenge for sure...not sure if they ever showed up in White Wolf or not.

Yeah, hence "I believe". I know White Wolf magazine used to have Shadwrun stuff in them (This was back when companies could produce a magazine that wasn't just a mouthpiece for their own games. Hell, even Dragon had some Shadowrun in it at one time). The stories showed up in a couple places, but... yeah, it's been a LONG time and I never actually had these, my GM did.

The stuff I'd LOVE to dig up, really, is Tinner's (My former GM's) old Scrawls from teh Sprawls APA. He was into that back in like 91-93ish, along with Steve Kenson, Jon Szeto, and a few others. Come really interesting stuff in those.

I'll agree about /dev/grrl. She's what 17 and a corp kid, how did she get wrapped up in the shadows so fast?
I've also been interested in learning more about Traveler Jones and Red Anya.

Also, the Halla(Shalla?) it was mentioned in I think Street Magic to have returned.
Edit- About Kane, like I said lucky. So so lucky *pouts*

And that's IRL. When Megacorps teach people to "work from home, so you can spend time with the family without feeling like you're neglecting your corporation", it'd be much worse!
-
It would make extractions infinitely easier though. Easier to nab someone at home than in a corporate office enclave WEE-OOH, WEE-OOH!

Yeah, she's 17, which is young for the group (Slamm-0! and NetCat are the next youngest, being in their mid-20s, IIRC.). She's also fairly naive due to her Corporate Upbringing, which is why she might seem younger.

Well, /dev/grrl was 14 or 15 when she first appeared, so she's grown quite a bit as a character and a runner, but it's not always clear.
One of the things I wanted to mention in Samantha Roth's profile in SOTA73 is that her daughter is /dev/grrl's age, and has been sharing similar experiences since Roth inked her deal with Erika (NeoNET) especially now that they are even "looking" at the same colleges (/dev/grrl was working in DeeCee [referenced in Conspiracy Theories] and her cover was that she was visiting Georgetown and GW), and I would like to play with how they interact as a ruthless Ms. Johnson and a constantly-underestimated shadowrunner.
But, yeah, it's also just how things go. It happens a lot IRL. The other message board I used to visit more often is filled with people who are mostly college-aged, and I've come to feel like and joke about being Old Man Meiers. But sometimes it isn't a joke, and it just comes out that way. There's a huge Transformers fan on the board who is cool to talk to, but I stopped playing with and caring for Transformers before she was born, and I'm 32. A lot of the members of JackPoint are in the late thirties or forties, and a handful are known to be in their fifties (The Smiling Bandit, and Rigger X), sixties (Thorn, Fianchetto), or even seventies (FastJack) and have been running for most of if not her entire life, including Slamm-0!. It's not simply an age thing, but an experience and perspective thing.
I'll agree about /dev/grrl. She's what 17 and a corp kid, how did she get wrapped up in the shadows so fast?

Puck is in his late twenties, and Slamm-0! and NetCat are my age. The youngest aside from Puck (I forget exactly how old he is offhand) is probably Kia, who was 27 in Street Legends.
But CanRay makes a good point, which applies to the preceding paragraphs, that she's still a corp brat. She's not fighting the system, playing neo-A radical, or engaged in a cause. Her actions are similarly vague as, of all people, FastJack. She's a prodigy; she's fucking brilliant almost beyond measure. However, she is young and inexperienced and not quite engaged in being a badass runner. Doing the runs is almost a hobby, it often seems, or else she'd have given up her cushy life as a corp brat.

Umm. Kane is a man who spent a decade becoming the worlds most renown pirate, pissed off most of the countries and corporations in the world, and amassed a large fortune, all for the goal of rescuing a woman he loved who went missing.
Kane has one line, and one line only that he won't cross. And that's cheating on Kat.
Bull
-
I agree. Kane won't cheat on Kat. Now a threesome? That's another question entirely.
-

Yep... nothing says "True Love" quite like riding to the rescue with "A couple Eagles, a Eurofighter, two Banshees, a couple Stonewalls, and about three hundred mercs, including almost the entirety of the Free Marine Corps."
Although, part of me has to wonder if he couldn't have just bought her free for a tiny fraction of that, given that they were already willing to trade her back before Fed-Boeing started raising a stink.
-
Kane has some control issues...by the time he got to the point of being able to buy her back, that was the last thing on his mind. Shit needed to blow up at that point.
Remember...he's not exactly stable. Which will make dating his daughter (if he and Kat ever have kids) or /dev/grrl (whom he's basically adopted) a really interesting experience for the poor bastard who gets the stones to ask her out.

Forgive me if it's been posted already (this is a pretty long thread), but whatever happened to Findler-Man? He's referenced as being the level 6 example on Street knowledge in 4th ed, and whenever I read the books back in the day, I know F-M had the skinny. But he's been gone since the edition change, so I assumed he went down in Crash 2.0. I'll have to dig up System Failure and see if he's posting post-Crash. If a Fallen Heroes book ever came out (and I think old-timer players like me would adore that!) I'd love to see him. Hell, I spent years looking for a simple PICTURE of Daviar until Street Legends came out! Just having a pic of Captain Chaos would be divine.
And it would be great to know what The Smiling Bandit is up to, these days. Y'know, besides supposedly being an old man in a shack somewhere in Mexico, if you believe the rumors...
-
Bandit is written up in Street Legends Supplemental. I'm pretty sure Findler-Man went down in Crash 2.0, as you said, but I'm not positive. He might have just retired.
-
Remember...he's not exactly stable. Which will make dating his daughter (if he and Kat ever have kids) or /dev/grrl (whom he's basically adopted) a really interesting experience for the poor bastard who gets the stones to ask her out.
"Um... Hello, Sir. I'm here to pick up dev. ... ... ... Please stop pointing the shotgun at me."
"Oh, this. Sorry, thought you were someone else. Come on in."
"Thank you, Sir."
"Now this is an Ares Alpha that I'll be pointing at you. Don't worry however, I only have my finger on the grenade launcher's trigger when I'm pointing it at you. Home by ten, and if you try anything, well... I taught her how to handle people that try anything with her. Personally. Trust me, you'll wish I dealt with you myself."

Although, part of me has to wonder if he couldn't have just bought her free for a tiny fraction of that, given that they were already willing to trade her back before Fed-Boeing started raising a stink.
Yeah, but where's the fun in just buying her freedom?
-
Just grabbed my System Failure to be sure. No Findler after the Crash. Ci est la vie.
It would be nice to know what Peregrine (Of Arcology Resistance fame) and Renraku Fox are up to these days, come to think of it. And I would DEFINITELY like to know if Puck is still trapped where he's at. It's been a little while, and you can only have the kind of damage he's sporting for so long...
Wired as he is to a megacorporate experimentation table with an exposed brain, stuck in a Faraday cage.

"I'll just walk it off." *Thud* "You were supposed to put his skull back on." "Oh, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight."

Last one before bed for the day: I've been curious just who Icarus is. I don't have the supplementals yet, so again I may be jumping the gun. I have my suspicions s/he (it?) is a synthetic. Just a hunch.
And a write-up on Pax would be amazing, as well, though I suspect there is a lot of plot in the works there. Much earlier someone mentioned Cinder, and that she might be Peri (FastJack's daughter). I always found that piece of fiction thrilling, and was disappointed when I could not find any other posts by Cinder before or after (and I have almost every 1-3 ed SR book. Guy's gotta have a hobby.;] ). The scrambled text of "ASHESTOASHES"... *shivvers* I love it when SR gets scary and conspiracy-y. :)

Puck is freed in Corporate Intrigue. Yes, he does have a few anger issues. In the mission following the one where Netcat frees him, you come across him sitting in front of the burning building of the MCT subsidiary that he was captured in.
-
I'd like to add Traveler Jones and Khan-A-Saur to the list, they post in almost every city discussion.

I believe it's been hinted (Street Legends?) that Icarus is Miles Lanier's child.

I believe they are adopted.
-
FastJack has mentioned seeing the birth of his daughter as one of the best things he's ever seen. It was while he was trying to watch a Trid Show LEGALLY instead of pirating it.
I think he's still looking for someone to punch in the junk.

Portfolio of a Dragon (49). Dragons of the Sixth World (25).

Most of the Dissonant Voices chapter of Threats 2 features and is about her.

Wasn't that Cinder's only appearance?
And go figure Portfolio of a Dragon is one of the few I haven't got. I'll get there. :)
-
Cinder appears in Renraku Arcology: Shutdown and Threats 2.
-
I'll get back to my Shutdown book and check it out. I appreciate it. :)

My avatar is of a female elf that could be, but is technically not Daviar. Larger (http://yfrog.com/z/h4wd1prj).
The POAD one is here (http://i39.tinypic.com/mlt3qu.jpg).
-
My avatar is of her.
The POAD one is also attached.
I like. Cool pictures.
-
Very nice. :)
-
Well, the first one should be for as much as I paid for her (I'll just say that it's more than a freelance artist ever got paid for a piece of Shadowrun art). I should note that technically and legally that is simply "Female Elf" and is not a character owned by anyone but me. I wouldn't mind if it was Daviar, but the only way that would happen is if my piece of art is licensed by CGL/Topps for inclusion into a book with the explicit or a strong implicit indication that it is a depiction of what Daviar may look like.
I wish it was her so I keep saying it is. [sarcasm]Because that's the smart thing to do as a matter of law.[/sarcasm] However, it is not. Feel free to continue pretending/believing/wishing it is so, however.
I'm surprised you never saw the images of Daviar before, though. Back when I was making assloads of RPG-based motivational posters (At the height of that meme's popularity, especially RPG themes) I used both images, especially the DotSW one (the one where she looks like Mila Kunis) because I photoshopped the Hell out of it to isolate her and make it look good, and so I felt obliged to use it.
-
As bad fortune would have it, both of those books are on the short list of ones I have yet to catch up on (novels not included, some of them were just too out there). I can remember googling her a few times over the years, but, well, you know how it can be. I'm just happy to have found it all here now. Danke, omae. :)
-
Yeah. I googled her name last night and I was reminded of the ugly-as-sin mini Ral Partha made of her. And I found a cached copy of one of my posters I deeply regret making now.
-
I know EXACTLY the one you're talking about... Yeeesh...
-
I'm not proud of propagating that meme, but I wasn't exactly pleased with anything having to do with SR at the time either.
-
If it's the one I'm thinking of...yeah, that was unfortunate. :)
-
I remember that one, you really swung for the fences with there ;)
