That's right, Shade, Teach wasn't exactly in a position to ask, and the info we got on her card didn't say. I've got some connections in Cara'Sir, and it's a common enough smugglers town, so I'd suggest making that our destination until we know for sure where she wants to go. We should probably let Siren know that we may need transport arranged on short notice, as the flight from here to there will take 4 to 6 hours, depending on how much Shade pushes it and how many borders we have to jump."

It has been a mostly non-profit night, the house was a no go but perhaps it still could be salvaged, too much hinged on the snarky lady.

Shade, a hand with the beers at least, the bloody cyberarm is not a hanger for Christ sake...Ah forget it...

Dropping the beverages onto a work bench James listens to the exchange between Shade and Loki.

Turning to Loki James puts a yellow smile Dog ate the snacks, so no school entrance checking tonight, but you could easily do it tomorrow.

Darren, sir, you guys discussed the plan? coffee and beers are on me help yourselves

Yeah we did, and it's gone from a simple snatch and grab to requiring more acting than season 5 of Neil the barbarian. Can't say I'm sold on it at all. Huge risk for very little gain if you ask me.

Derren slumps against the wall, cracking open the beer James passed over.
Listen before you get roped in to this discussion on magic and impersonation, tell me, what would be your plan to lift the kid?

I think I am up for listening to the ex military on the team for a good extraction and delivery. I will drive or fly what ever is needed. I know problems happen but let's at least have a plan not to get dead before we even get started.

hmm You know i am not the biggest fan of doing a blitz, but its where they are more vulnerable, the lack of physical defensive structures will help, you can count on that at the house and the school is still a big unknown, and if the principal has orders on when the kid should leave, that is going create a major issue, mom or no mom there.

taking a sip from one of the soykaffs James continues should any part of that plan go fubar, we will have one person inside a school full of kids, security measures to contend, and lets be honest, they will be there, half those kids probably have been targets of failed abduction attempts or even successful ones. So no, school is not an option in my book, too many things that can go awfully wrong and the last i want is my mug face on the new as a crew member for a team that left a bunch of kids on the hospital... or worse.

but that is a moral stance, in terms of practicality we can hit them hard on the road, non-lethal ordinance, support will always be minutes away, we can extract the kid fast, mommy already with us. We can however try a few diversionary manoeuvres, Shade can use 2 cars, we can simulate a car change, 1 car goes to an abandoned warehouse and we can send an anonymous ransom note calling them there, we go on the second car and between the blitz and the decoy we should have a somewhat comfortable advance

i would still like to try and get some intel on the dad or whatever they keep locked in that house host... but ill get to you on that in six hours sir

Derren took a swig of the cold beer, waving it at James in agreement with his point
Yeah, that's exactly what i'm talking about. bypasses all the security shit and gives us half a fracking chance of getting out in one piece.

The next day, whenever the team all gathers.

"Alright, if you're doing the hit on the streets, I'm not going to be anywhere near there. After all, you wouldn't want them to know my face would you? That would be really bad after all." He nods a little. "Now I know what you're thinking.. How is he going to help us then? Of course the Professor is going to help you, but I need a few things from you all first. First, before we go in, I suggest getting some masks that have cameras and microphones installed. That will be able to give me a feed through my R.A.T.S. Which is what I'm naming this device He holds up the spark plug thingy  he was working on earlier. "Through this, I'll be able to watch all of your backs with the camera displays, and such. I've got a few other devices I'm going to work out too, that will give you all such the most wonderful heads up displays."
Concepts are great, but implementation sucks. Why not improve it?

"Cool as cool, you want to go with a hilariously complex plan that doesn't require my talents, I'll hang around back here until the drek hits the aerial rotational device. So much for this whole thing going unnoticed. Someone wake me if they figure out what they want to use the force multiplier, as I know you military types like to call us mages, for. G'night..."

And with that, Loki went off to find some measure of comfort. He'd slept rough for years and years, and at least this place was dry and didn't have any rats except for the teacher's device, whatever it was.

Stretching from having slept in his car, a night well slept despite the 3 hours lost to Fido software changes, James had co-opted Shades for the tweaking of Fido, his virtual matrix agent (which happens to resemble a virtual Alaskan Malamute).

Hey professor... Shade, thanks for yesterday, it took only 3 hours thanks to you, much appreciated, i owe you one... sniffing to see if anyone had started the soykaff James rolled his eyes at the continued discussion. I'll be shaving if anyone needs me

Loki awoke as the Renraku link blasted the alarm he had set the night before; apparently he'd forgotten to adjust the volume. Anyone who wasn't already awake was sure to be so now, as the device certainly had more oomph than he'd ever thought possible. He headed out just in time to watch as the light of dawn began flooding the Emerald City, and caught a breath of relatively fresh air compared to the stuffy insides of the shop. Suddenly, seeing the beams of golden light scattering across a copse of somewhat unharmed trees, he found himself strangely missing the Tir.

"For all it's faults, it's still home", he thought to himself as he shook himself out of his reverie. "And, I guess I'll get to see it soon enough. Anyway, enough faffing about, time to go to work."

Walking back inside, he nodded to the others as they stirred and went about their business, and headed over to the corner he'd claimed for himself. The young elf sat down, leaned his back against the wall, and spoke in a mirthful voice.
"All right, boys and girls, I'll be out for a while taking a look at the kid and his bodyguard, so don't go assaulting anything while I'm gone. Also, anyone fucks with my body while I'm out and you will all find yourselves in a pile, naked and sweaty, while I'll be in possession of some pretty compromising photos you might not want circulating the 'trix for eternity. Let's just say it's in your best interest to ensure I stay undisturbed for the next four to five hours, at most..."

Loki grinned widely and added a cheerful "Imo herme!", the beginning of a traditional Sperethiel parting phrase, before leaning back against the wall with his eyes closed, his body going limp as a ragdoll.

The emotional weight of the world crashed into him as he left his body for the Astral, as the intensity of the sensation never ceased to shock him. After stepping across the threshold, he checked that his body hadn't fallen over somehow as he hated waking back up with a serious crick in the neck, and then took a look at the others briefly. "Nothing special," he thought as he read their surface moods. "At least no one seems nervous enough to indicate that they're going to betray us, so that's something I guess."

His Astral form "jumped" up and he flew through the roof of the shop into the early morning sky. He settled in the clouds once again and called forth an ally from the mist.

"Trickster, hear me! I have need of your people once again, and I honor our ancestors by making this sacrifice in your name!" Shouting out his call, he drew his black dagger from the sheath on his back and ran it's edge across his left arm, the wound opening and closing almost immediately. A flock of ravens descended upon him almost instantly after the blade had rasped his skin, and they pecked at his head and scratched at his face, but his resolve held and he weathered their passing. When the cloud of feathers, beaks, and claws dispersed, a lone humanoid figure remained, his form cloaked in shadow.

"Thank you, honored spirit, for coming to my aid," he said softly, bowing to the form in front of him. "Please, cloak my form like your own in this place, hide it from prying eyes, and then follow me and protect me if I am attacked. Do not risk your form to save me, I only ask for time to escape my assailants, and remain only for as long as I stay in this place." As the apparition nodded it's understanding, Loki watched as the shadows surrounding the being spread out and engulfed his own form making it almost translucent, fading into the background of the astral world.

Satisfied with his efforts so far, he sought out the location he knew as the residence of their target, and arrived almost instantaneously. He began looking around for a suitable place to wait, and after observing the area for a little while from up above felt confident that the house next door did not have any Astral wards nor watcher spirits nearby. As it had a perfect vantage spot of the parking garage of his target he settled in behind the chimney on the roof for the wait.

Some time later, he watched as an aura exited the building and seemingly looked around, then advanced towards the garage as a second aura followed him. Astonishingly, while the second aura was certainly smaller, it was all the more vibrant. Where the aura of what could only be the child's bodyguard was faded and dull, tendrils of grey and black crisscrossing his form, the child's aura was unlike anything he had ever seen. He was definitely no mage, but something was... wrong about his aura, not just because it was incredibly vibrant but because it looked like he should be capable of manipulating mana, or at least some kind of energy like it. He risked a closer look, straining his senses to "see" his form more clearly, and nearly fell off the roof. Pure energy seemed to run along and through the child's form, an energy he'd never seen before.

"This child is like no mage I've ever seen, that's for damned sure." Loki thought to himself, puzzled by this new revelation. As the two entered the garage, Loki vaulted into the sky once more and just flew for a while, soaring amongst the clouds, thinking long and hard about what he'd just seen. There had been talk of some kind of craze at a hospital in Neo-Tokyo a few years back, but he couldn't remember the details. Word on the street was that something had been going since the Second Crash, and he'd heard rumours about a Horizon massacre in Las Vegas which had been really unpopular. "Wait... could he be... Oh, drek..."

After what felt like an eternity, he felt his body begin to tug at him, the loss of it's spirit making itself known to him. He immediately released his watcher, thanking him for his help in mid-flight, and returned to his body in a flash of motion that made the transition back into the real world a painful experience. The shock of it made him bolt upright, inhaling deeply, and he began coughing roughly. He immediately looked for the presence of the others, shouting for them to come quickly. Once he saw they were within earshot, he asked them a simple question.

"Well, this job just got real fraggin' interesting. What do you all know about these so-called virtuakinetics?"

Virtual... Kenetics? Ah right, one of those new gaming systems isn't it? The Professor asks, as he fiddles with his device in the making again. This time, he figured he'd get some more tasks for his sprite he currently has available to him.

The head shaved clean, the goatee trimmed and Loki saying something about naked and sweaty, to James something was off and since the bodily hair had been taken care of it only meant it was the elf.

What is wrong with dandelion eater over there? a gentle smirk twisting the scar on his face guess its either a joke or the bastard is high on something, Darren, sir, should we discuss a timetable?

Force multiplier my arse. Magic is powerful but this aint a sitcom. His plan is more riddled with holes than the Korean liberation army's flag was after the IJA fucked em up at Kaeson!
The mojo man will come in handy, don't get me wrong. But I ain't relying on his abilities alone. Right.. {glugs beer} lets get cracking.
