I could use some advice from you guys.  Knowledge skills.  Knowing about gangs is obvious for Samuel, he's been watching them for a while.  Low-tech security systems, in my mind, is knowing about the cheaper kind of stuff that gangs would have regular access to.  Old school locks, basic low rank maglocks, cheap sound alarm wired to a window or door, etc.  If he walked into a corp building I feel like he should be lost.

The third obvious one for him is a knowledge of alchemy and disenchanting, but I don't really know how to apply that.  I can't imagine that disenchanting alchemy preparations is going to come up much, the other use of it is foci but Samuel doesn't work with foci.

I'm trying to think of a few useful knowledge skills that won't overlap so much and coming up blank.  I have 8 to 10 points available still.  We have a lot of gang knowledge, law enforcement, organized crime, and black markets covered.  His fake ID has a hunting license, so maybe a knowledge of the outskirts area?  Maybe he goes reagent scavenging out there.  Good for the backstory, but might not be so useful in play.  Arg.

go with a couple of interest type skills, video games, trid stars, football, whatever. Not only does it A) help round out the character a bit, but also B) could possibly make an NPC who is also interested in those things like you more, but also consider C) i am really fond of using those types of things in my games. If you get hired to protect, say Shigeru Miyamoto for example, it can help in your preparations if you happen to actually know some things about the man, y'know?

So yeah, DEFINITELY go with some interest type skills. You'll be happy you did.

Oh yeah, for sure.  I am just looking for thoughts on a last "useful" one.  One is action trids, and I actually picture Samuel as having spent years not just watching but examining them like training manuals and then practicing moves against home made wing chung dummy style props before he started practicing them on gangers.  He's a home-brewed, self-made kind of vigilante.  None of that kiddy or fantastical flying around crap, I mean the brutal stuff.  Think The Raid.  If you haven't seen it, watch fight scenes here. Hell, watch it again even if you have seen it!  So good.  Particularly the fights at 6:20 and 8:30.  That is how I picture Samuel fighting- no flashy stuff, almost all knees and elbows and kicks.  Not as good as those guys obviously, they are like 10 unarmed skill.

Second personal one I picked is (not sure if this is the best way to word it) anti-establishment groups.  Samuel may work on a small scale right now, but he has even more of a problem with the corp overlords of the world than the local gangers.  It's just that the small time is something he can kick in the face right now.  He knows the system is holding us down, man!  He thinks that with the amount of power the corporations (and even to an extent the powerful beings like dragons) have, it is flat out evil how they continue to make the world an uglier and uglier place.  He cannot fathom how a corp executive can look at a balance sheet and say "Nope, we need more.  Fuck those people."  His goals actually involve moving up to bigger things some day, making a difference in more than a few city blocks.

Right now I'm looking at:
Low-tech security systems- 4
Local gangs- 3
Anti-establishment groups- 3
Action trids- 3

Leaves me 3 more points to work with.

Probably should have worded it better before.  When I said I had 8-10, I was including that I could swap some if something better came up.  The set in stone ones were just the security and gang knowledge.

Some magic related knowledge might come in handy, otherwise our only source of it would be to mine contacts for info.

History
Slappendash wasn't born to run the shadows. But now, given her past, she has nothing else she can do; no corporation will ever hire her after what she did.

Slappendash was born Cameron Erikson in an Ares facility. Her parents were happy wageslaves; her mother worked as a security guard and her father was a quality control tester. Both parents actively encouraged her to seek Ares improvement from the day she was born, enrolling her in Ares-controlled education programs from the earliest possible age. In fact, an Ares-sponsored counselor eventually talked to them about that, as the counselor felt they were pushing her too hard for her to turn out an effective employee. For her own part, Cameron was happy to follow along in her parent's footsteps, though she soon found she excelled in areas related to security and mechanical engineering.

When she turned 18, Slappendash was accepted into Ares' spider rigger training program, where she was given hands-on training on how to control drones. She excelled in the program, making her parents proud, and soon found herself monitoring a section of security without supervision. It was then when she met him; smart, attractive, and a new name in the research department. He seemed to return her interest, and soon the two spent every moment they could flirting.

And then it happened. The two were flirting, the innuendo became drone-heavy, and then they went farther. Much farther. Then, afterwards, she sent him back to work, smiling happily... until she noticed she had forgotten about still connected to the system. She discovered, much to her horror, that she had been sending commands to a drone the entire time, and the result was that the drone had spent the entire time chasing and shooting at some poor wage slave in accounting, and had managed to completely expend all of its ammo in the pursuit. The wageslave had secreted himself in a closet and could easily be heard sobbing through the heavily-reinforced door. And then she noticed the new researcher getting in a car with a troll and a couple others, all heavily armed, on one of the security feeds.

The next day, she discovered the truth: Her newfound lover was not an employee at all, but a shadowrunner who had used fake credentials to gain entry and perform surveillance. The night of their tryst was the night a shadowrun was going on and his job was to distract her. Her boss, wryly commenting that the security feeds were very revealing to watch, informed her that she was fired. She was promised that the security footage would be kept tightly sealed away, but was politely informed that any inquiries by other potential employers would get them a very interesting video to watch.

With nothing left except what money she had saved and an embarrassing nickname given to her by her former co-workers, Slappendash found herself on the streets. She used what she could of her money to acquire a van and some drones, and now is looking for less-than-legal work. In particular, she wants vengeance for her utter humiliation. And she's hoping no one finds out about why she's running the shadows.

I'm sorry for how long this has taken. Things are finally settling on my end.

I'll explain what's going on later tonight.

I apologize for the hold-up.

What's going on is my grandmother is dealing with a massive medical emergency. She recently got rather ill and ended up in the hospital. She's currently on dialysis, but had a rather bad reaction to her first dialysis treatment. We almost lost her while just trying to get the doctors to listen. She's doing better, and I'm no longer having to yell at doctors.

so hey, looking over slappendash, i notice you've listed the program "Ares Alpha targetting (6) 3000" several times.

i was under the impression you could just purchase it once and throw it in your RCC, letting it work for all drones connected. Am i wrong?

You're right ^.^

I could remove that to just the RCC and redistribute a lot of moolah...

now, granted, if you get jammed out of being able to directly control a drone and the dog brain takes over, if you need it to keep firing, you MAY need the autosoft in the drone. Anyone wanna weigh in on this?
