If you're thinking of Yomi Island, that practice was at least officially discontinued in 2062 by Emperor Yasuhito.

And if memory serves, Empress Hitomi has been working for metahuman rights in Japan, though I'm not sure how much progress she's made in the  highly tradition-oriented society of her nation.

Yomi Island has been officially shut down, but interestingly enough, a large population of Metas refuse to leave, and have been whispering of Seperation from Japan..... (all this can be found in Year of the Comet)

That is not to say that is swell for being a Meta in Japan. Chances are you will still be turned away from just about every business, but they will do it with a smile now.

The way I see it a CyberZombie is huge investment. Evo will not throw a nuclear bomb for the map since they don't know what is/what it does. They had a part of the map and since they are seeing the other disapearing they're only wandering for now.

I'm sad to say that I refuse to think something as disharmonious as an Oni would ever be accepted into a stable of the Sumo Association. Almost nothing is seen as more Japanese than sumo here (despite accepting foreigners these days). But with the SR universe's even more traditional tendencies I just don't see it happen.
