The speed only gets cut in half while it's in walker mode, though. If it's transformable, you'd still be doing the (160-20%=128) with a very heavily armored vehicle.

If it's a full-time Walker, you'd want a transport for it anyway.
I haven't crunched the numbers yet, but I'm planning on using a modded out Spitzenreiter with LTA, specialized equipment (internal hold/ hatch/ winch system), specialized equipment (fast air bag storing holds), signature masking, level 2 life support, and ballast tanks. Some sun-cell and amenities too if there's room.

The idea is that it can hover around where everyone is, and if things get too hairy is can pick them up, or drop the meaner, less legal stuff in a jiffy. Also, who doesn't want a submarine blimp?

I would love it being able to actually transform, but as far as I know, walker mode completely replaces the current form of locomotion (just like "Lighter then Air" for example). The "Hovercraft Add-On" upgrade lets you switch modes, and while amphibious operation doesn't switch modes per se, you can operate both in and out of water.

That's what you cover with special machinery, all with GM permission of course.

... a submarine blimp.  Okay, that's it, somebody dies.

Not near my books right now but, IIRC, you have to already have an Air Speed (or some similar restriction) to use Lighter Than Air.

Besides, the actual derigibles are pretty badass already.

Maybe it's in the errata, LTA says (all). Although it does give you improved takeoff and landing (aircraft only).

Double-checked and, yeah, it doesn't say anything about it anywhere. Must have been thinking of IT&L.

The Errata, however, does state that there's cap on Body 16, the same way Walker caps at Body 10.

Perfect for a spitzenritter, if not really expensive.

I don't know why I didn't check this before but 160 x .5 x .8 = 64. It's still no hotrod, but I don't know what equation chummer got 48ms out of. Maybe it thinks the base speed is 120ms.

Actually, the general rule is to add up the modifiers before applying, so it's (-50% + -20% = -70%) which means 160 x 0.3 = 48

Heh, I was trying to make a powered armor suit for a SWAT equivalent force earlier tonight and this topic answered several questions I had (why armor was making it slower, and the correct strength for vehicle arms) :)

Dodge Guardian
* Integral Weapon Mount (Normal, Internal Fixed, Remote)
* Walker Mode
* Rigger Coccon, Basic
* Rigger Adaption
* Mechanical Arm
* Mechanical Arm

I did originally have only one arm and Armor 16, but since the base motorbike in this case starts with higher Armor (10) than Body (8) it doesn't really seem worth the speed loss in this case, especially with the rigger cocoon already in place.

You're better off starting with the Iron Will. It's a Power Loader style thing out of Attitude. Essentially, it's armor that counts as a vehicle.

Such as the ill-fated R33 or (ZRS-4) Akron and other airbourne aircraft carrier ideas, which if not brought to their untimely end by storms and other small problems would probably have become long-term area control drone carriers and things that are only now entering Shadowrun...in the present day.

And just so everyone has it:
Quote from: Arsenal p141
Lighter Than Air (All): The vehicle is mounted on a
zeppelin or blimp frame, so that it can now loiter over an area
for days. The gas bag is filled with non-flammable gas, and is
compartmentalized so that no single puncture will deflate the
whole bag. As a result, the fuel consumption of an LTA craft is
radically reduced, so its operation time (p. 103) is multiplied
by 10. Speed and Acceleration are cut in half, however, while
Handling is reduced by 2, but the craft gains Level 2 improved
takeoff and landing capacity (p. 103).
The description doesn't give any indication that LTA is "only for vehicles that are already aircraft", and given the rather significantly different body designs between, say, a zepplin meant to loiter over a contested city versus an anti-air interdictor fighter designed for supersonic combat. Yes, I'm intentionally using rather drastically different ends of the spectrum, but I hope the point's clear. That being said, I would give a flat NO to any player asking to put LTA on their Entertainment Systems Cyclops.

Here's the writeup for you, just so you can take a look at it.

I apparently miss-remembered the bit about being treated as a vehicle... the specific call-out's just for upgrades. However, since it has a vehicle stat-block, rather than an armor stat-block, I'm working under the assumption that that it was simply meant to clarify that it gets Vehicle upgrades, not Armor upgrades:

Quote
Iron Will: Iron Will is an exoskeleton used to augment the user’s strength for laborious tasks. it is 2.5 meters tall and weighs 200 kg. it has no autonomy, nor was it built for any remote piloting. When worn, treat the wearer’s strength as 8, but reduce their agility by 1. Iron Will can be treated as a vehicle for upgrades.
