I have no idea what karma gen means, and I didn't use the free contact points, but this is the character I've been working on since I rediscovered my Shadowrun PDF. Now with entirely too much frickin' background!  Posting this before I hit the sack for the night, please point out any glaring mistakes and let me know what I need to change for your game!

Wait, really, trans lady runner? You are the best, let's be friends, etc. Build-wise she looks aight apart from a couple of small issues, but we can get those evened out. As Red said, it's just a different method of character creation, using karma, which is how you progress in-game. If you have a PC, Chummer is a really nice fan-made program that will keep track of all the math for you, so you do not even have to learn this wack karma gen thing if you don't feel like it. If you've got a mac, here's an excel generator that does much the same thing. We're starting with 1000 karma instead of the usual 750, so you get to give her even more things.

I'd rather go straight out mage (shamanistic eagle shapechanger once we determine the karma cost for that).

I'll see what I can do with the chargen, Wolf if you are talking about something other than chummer can you link me to it.

PM me on what you think should be the right Karma cost and I'll start out neg that much. Just toying around with it now since I haven't karma'd one since SR3

My first thought is to convert racial cost like everything else, as BPx2, instead of karma cost = BP cost as is standard. (Eagle shifter is... sixty...? BP off the top of my head, so 120 karma.) Maybe try it, and if you think it's too heavy of a penalty we'll talk about something else. That Will/Cha combo can really get out of hand given high starting karma, which is why I'm worried about it. (I promise I'm not just picking on you for no reason.)

I have to sign off, but it's been great to meet everyone, and I'm really looking forward to getting this thing off the ground.

120 is fine, will work with that.

I have the same concern with wis/cha being a tad easy to get high with the eagle, so going to self cap myself at 7/4 (wis/cha) just to keep me with a decent soak pool but without going too overboard on it (initially I was 5/8 but felt that was too many dice). If you want me to drop it down another point or so let me know. I am very easy to deal with when it comes to char gen. I try to balance being useful without going over the edge on power

Three questions

1) Other than free contacts at Cha *2 are there any other chargen house rules in effect (like the common one that grants free knowledge skills for karma gen)?

2) Any books you don't want us using, I'm assuming SR4A, Unw, Ars, Aug and RC are all OK.

3) How optimized do you want us to be?

== Description ==
A taller than average troll so pale that he almost resembles an albino. Mr Fabulous wears dark suits cut to resemble those of the 1950s and a stingy brimmed fedora in a matching shade. He is always impeccably dressed when in public. His voice is a basso rumble, like gravel soaked in honey.

== Background ==
Mr Fabulous grew up in the Redmond Barrens of Seattle and his date of birth and parentage are unknown. He was indestinguishable from any other troll street urchin until he lucked into a job cleaning up at a mafia connected boxing gym. Young Tony showed talent and a surprising amount of dicipline. The rigorous dicipline of boxing as taught by Mickey Pennino eventually resulted in Mr Fabulous becoming both a noted amateur boxer and an adept. Mickey also transmitted a love and knowledge of Jazz.

Mr Fabulous started paying his bills by doing odd jobs for the Seattle mob. He picked up a good knowledge of the culture and organization of the Seattle mob, but was never fully accepted becasue of his metahumanity. The transition to freelance criminal work was a natural one for Fabulous. Mr Fabulous has a light hand for a troll, and has earned a reputation for being reliable muscle with a long fuse.

v1. This is my first real caster since 2nd Ed, so I'm open to suggestions if you notice anything.

I've flexible on any changes you would like me to change. I'm still going to add a little more to the background (explaining her choice in weaponry) and a bit more on why she developed her powers the way she did. I think I may swap a couple of spells around since I have a lot of high drain spells.

Eagle Form: Shape of a Harpy Eagle, white with black markings.

Human form: She has lightly tanned skin, dark brown eyes. Her black hair is short and choppy, swept back with white tips. She is average height, and has a thin build.

== Background ==
Ravanna was captured near the Grand Canyon by dwarven poachers when she was young. An eagle shaman named Samuel Stogen found her caged, sensed her true nature, and purchased her from the poachers. He then brought her to Seattle where her innate magical talents evolved with his training and tutalage. When she was competant enough with magic, she was hired onto the company I worked for, Knight Errant, providing aerial security and support.

Six years later, Samuel was killed by a dwarven mage while she was en route to provide backup. Witnessing his death, she went into a rage and threw him off of a 30 story building with fling.

Knight Errant, understanding that she may become unstable after losing her mentor, allowed her to leave the company on good terms. She still keeps in contact with Samuel's former partner, Captain Rikers.

Hi there, as you can see this is my first actual post on this forum, but I've been a long time lurker. If there is still a spot on this PbP I'd love to get in on it. Have been waiting ages for one! As the title of the subforum says, itches to scratch an all that...

What the hell do I call you? Ern, Ian (my RL name) or my character's name if we get there. I can post most of the day, I'm based in GMT (England) and barely seem to sleep!

Experience level? No PBP but plenty of tabletop, an couple of SR campaigns. Plus I only really have experience of BP gen.

Game tone? What ever really, I just love the SR Setting as a whole. So long as I have an idea at the start

Character ideas: I have two ideas that I'd like to play around with either an ex-CrashCart combat medic or a hustler/gambler throwing weapong adept. Or I could do a mage of some description. I have little to no matrix experience though as my normal RP group barely touched on it (mainly used NPCs/contacts for that side of things)

 Just let me know!

RHat: yes on adept geasa. Go ahead and initiate as well, if you feel like it.

Reiper: looks pretty good, overall. If you're going to cap yourself at 4/7 cha/wil, go ahead and use standard karma racial cost (60 or whatever it is). Fickle GM, soz. Given that she was raised in Seattle and is comfortable enough with the modern world to work for KE, I'm not sure Uneducated is appropriate, but I'm open to arguments to the contrary. I agree with RHat; that background sort of necessitates Records on File, or at least a legit SIN. Which raises a possible problem, actually, because I'm not sure the UCAS offers citizenship to shifters at all. As of RC, there was actually an extant bounty on shifters, but I'm pretty sure that's been lifted in the meantime, although I can't find a source at the moment; as far as I can recall, though, they still don't qualify for a SIN, which would be required to work with KE. I'll keep looking, but maybe think about changing some things. Lastly, she's not got any kind of initiative or IP bonus, which... your call, but this is working up to be a fairly combat-heavy group, so I'd recommend at least one bonus pass. As noted above, you can use karma to initiate if you like.

Crunch: yes on free knowledge points; I'd forgotten that wasn't actually in RAW, thanks for the reminder. All books are open. Mr. F looks, well, fabulous, clearly. I think he's at a pretty good level of optimization, compared to the other characters we've got so far; 15 dice in your primary pool is very solid but not excessive. (Unarmed Combat [Martial Arts] is one of my favorite oddities of the core rulebook. What does it mean? How does it work? Who knows, just go with it.) I'm a little confused by Flight as an active skill, though. (13 dice is a pretty impressive Flight pool, for a troll. xD )

I think that's everyone...? We've got some legit MagicRun going here, which is great. I can work with that. General notes: house ruling that karma gen provides free knowledge points in the same way as BP gen, thanks to Crunch for pointing that out. Everyone is free to use their starting karma to initiate if they want.

I'm cool with any kind of game.  I tend to be very dice-rolly, but I'm no stranger to RP. 
I have little playing experience with 4E, but tons with 2nd and other game systems. 
I'd like to try a magician or mystic adept, unless those are too boring when you have a lot of them.  Then I'd make a face or something.
Remember, you don't have to kill the vehicle to stop it, just kill the guy driving it.

I downloaded Chummer, looks pretty good. Only thing I'm not understanding is it looks like it tracks cyberware and nuyen separately? It doesn't look like it's subtracting from nuyen or karma when I add cyber.

Anyway, I will have to go to work soon so I will be trying to figure out exactly how Chummer works and what else I should add to my character later tonight.

Oh, I'm definitely still interested!  Didn't realize you were reserving a spot for me.

I will get to work on my character this evening, so look for the concept and sheet from me sometime in the next day or so.  I'm thinking of going with either a street sam (demolitions expert, like the guy from The Hurt Locker), or a hacker type with a secondary skillset of some kind (maybe medic, maybe rigging, maybe auto mechanic).

If any of these don't line up with what you have in mind for a team player, let me know and I'll adjust as necessary.

Crunch: yes on free knowledge points; I'd forgotten that wasn't actually in RAW, thanks for the reminder. All books are open. Mr. F looks, well, fabulous, clearly. I think he's at a pretty good level of optimization, compared to the other characters we've got so far; 15 dice in your primary pool is very solid but not excessive. (Unarmed Combat [Martial Arts] is one of my favorite oddities of the core rulebook. What does it mean? How does it work? Who knows, just go with it.) I'm a little confused by Flight as an active skill, though. (13 dice is a pretty impressive Flight pool, for a troll. xD )

Chummergen includes Flight in the Athletics skill group. If he ever grows wings I'm sure it will be useful. I'll do a quick rebuild to address the Knowledge Points issue.

Since you're allowing Initiation, do you play with the optional rule on Adept power points?

Yeah I thought about that after posting it. Making a minor change to her background where she only assisted Samuel and wasn't officially part of Lone Star.

@ Wolf, I'm going to keep her at 120 because (assuming she can cast in bird form) she has some seriously nasty things she may be able to pull off (I'll PM you about the details in a bit, and if you think its a tad OP let me know and I'll end up doing a major overhaul on the char).
