Welcome!
I hope you guys are as excited as I am to get this started. Before we start we obviously have to iron out a few kinks. Take a moment to introduce yourselves, and perhaps the character that you want to play. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Depending on how smooth this goes we should be able to officially start up in the next few days. Feel free to tell us a bit about yourselves, such as playstyle and the level of humour you enjoy in your games, as I'm assuming none of us have played with each other.
The setting is December in Winnipeg. The city is gearing up for Christmas, although the meaning behind it is completely lost to the greed of the Corporations. Winnipeg can get extremely cold, so make sure you have some decent clothing. The local police are Knight Errant, although it is not uncommon for Long Arms to be seen on the weekends and holidays. Although the have no authority in Winnipeg, they are almost always armed.
Fixers work differently in Winnipeg. Instead of being paid by the Johnson, they get a cut of what the runners make. This makes them more inclined to want the best runners they can get, and makes it hard for newer runners to get into the business. Luckily you know an fixer who isn't in it for the money. He is a human named is Al Longman, and he owns a cafe named "The Neighbourhood Cafe" in a cozy part of Winnipeg named Wolseley.

Hey guys, my name is Martin.
I enjoy RP heavy games, and definitely appreciate a good dose of subterfuge. Guns blazing can be fun, but I usually reserve this for military or ganger type games. As for humour, this can be fairly subjective but I don't mind a few jokes here and there.
I'd like to play Seijin, aka The Saint, a Japanese Kenjutsu swordsman on a sort of pilgrimage around the world to prove himself in service to Hachiman, Kami of protection and war. This is represented in game terms by having Bear as a mentor Spirit, with Bushido as a code of conduct.
He's got a dark past, represented by the Bad Reputation negative quality, earned by killing a team mate in Japan. He's not a pacifist by any stretch, but will not kill an unarmed or unaware opponent.
Seijin is mostly a straight up combat character. He's fast, he's got high defensive dice pools, and excellent sword skills. Other than that, he's got some small degree of stealth skills, including palming, so could also cover physical recon roles if we dont have a dedicated rigger.
I'll play Loki, Elf manipulation magician (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=16098.0) with decent con and negotiation skills, but little finesse and social know-how.
Loki is an Elf from the border down of Cara'Sir (Portland) in Tir Tairngire. He grew up an orphan on the streets and Awakened early on in his life but was never formally trained. As a result, he's got some serious gaps where knowledge of magic is concerned (represented by the Astral Beacon negative quality and somewhat lower skills than "optimal", particularly in terms of Arcana), but a life of hard knocks has provided him a wide range of talents in other areas. The Trickster is his mentor spirit, and as a result he enjoys playing practical jokes on people (Raven mentor spirit from SR5), and he's been malnourished ever since childhood (represented by Weak Immune System). He has no idea how to use most firearms (Incompetent (Firearms)) and as a result uses spells to either influence his enemies directly or to fling injection darts full of Narcojet at opponents, preferably when they are caught unaware by his disguises. In addition, he's got a silver tongue and a natural charm (First Impression, combined with Raven mentor spirit), and as a result he can usually sweet talk most people into doing what he needs them to, and he has a penchant for seducing women, particularly those with more personal power than himself. He's not a lech, however, and he respects power more than anything, so he's not going to hit on everything with a pulse.
As I mentioned briefly, Loki is rather inexperienced partly because of his age. He's lived on the streets most of his life, and he doesn't quite know how to behave in high or even middle society (represented by having no ranks in Etiquette). He'll use his natural charm and silver tongue to ingratiate himself with others, but at any point in time he could slip up and let the streets come out if he's not careful. He's got an amicable relationship with the spirits of what he believes are his ancestors, all rooted in Nordic mythology due to the inscription on and shape of the pendant he's had ever since childhood. Ashann Valeri, a name he later took as his own, is Sperethiel for Blood of Valhalla, and the pendant is shaped like a golden Valkyrie. He chose his alias Loki after coming in contact with his mentor spirit, both as an homage to his ancestry and because he thought it fit his personality.

Will you allow spells from Stolen Souls? There are some really interesting Manipulation spells in there that would be perfect for Loki.
Specifically (at least in terms of character generation, I'd like to replace Ignite with Fashion. If you don't have the book yet, this is what it does:
Fashion
(Manipulation)
Type: P * Range: T * Duration: P * DV: F-1
This spell instantly tailors clothing, transforming garments into any fashion the caster wishes. The net hits over the clothing’s object resistance (defense pool for the clothing can be between 6 and 9, depending on the complexity of the material and whether it interweaves electronics into the threads) measure the degree of style in the tailoring. The spell cannot change clothing’s protective value, only its cut, color, pattern, and fit. The weight of the clothing does not change, and it must cover approximately the same amount of area (for example, a jumpsuit can’t be converted into a bikini). The caster must touch the clothing. The following list provides guidance on what a character can do per each net hit:
1 The tint of the color can change (e.g., dark blue to light blue, but not blue to green); minor adjustments such as mending bullet holes can also be performed
2 Adjustments to the fit of the clothing can be made, but nothing drastic about the nature of the clothes (for example, pants are still pants). Color can change slightly (e.g., blue to green or purple, but not red).
3 Full spectrum of color can be manipulated. Simple geometric patterns and designs can be added, but nothing as elaborate as corporate logos or name tags. Modifications such as the addition or removal of pockets or pants to a skirt can be done.
4+ Clothing can be changed with enough specificity to mimic a uniform, provided enough material is available. Color changes can help mimic missing accessories such as buttons, labels, badges, ribbons, etc. These changes, however, are only convincing at a distance if the physical accessories are not present. The closer a target gets to the subject, the more likely they will notice the actual accessories are missing (a gamemaster would call for a Perception Test to see if the person notices). Patterns and designs on clothing can be as intricate as the magician desires.
Looking forward to getting together with y'all.

Well, I'm Triskavanski. Martin knows me a bit, I'm usually the guy who plays odd characters
Generally, I build characters with small mechanics and such, and being fleshing them out.
The healer - Otherwise known as Candlekey Bookbelle. Wether that is her real name or not is unknown. She is very connected, despite her weak and meger body, quite connected with mafia and other criminal groups. Some say that even the Lord of Nightmares is afraid of her cooking. Despite it being unusually good, it usually looks like poison. On the flip side, her poisons generally have a very appetizing look to them.
Technomancer Overwatcher - Guardian Angel or some other such rot is her name. This character isn't much of a meat spacer. Instead they sit happily at home writing a book or something of that sort, while they assist their teams from the side lines. Constantly uses leadership and other tools to help her team win, while watching their backs. (Literally even, as she usually ships a handful of micro-cameras to her team to put on their backs.)
I've also got assassin, technomancer and other such builds.
-
Hoi, I'm Elektrycerze3, but you can call me Elek for short. I'm really russian, so please mind the time difference.
In general, I prefer Black Trenchcoat games generously spiced with humour.
My character will be Error. For your convenience I'm copying here all I've shared about him in the LFG thread:
Error, ork - heavily cybered russian WWF fighter, who got kicked out for refusing to lose in a rigged match. His name is actually Egor, but his heavy accent makes it sound like Error. On the streets he became a Street Sam who tries to stay true to the concept of an honorable and fair fighter.
I don't know Winnipeg, but let's assume Error got kicked out after the match in Winnipeg, so that's where his career starts.
As for his abilities, he is a decent Unarmed combatant and his four cyberlimbs make him a natural tank. He also can provide suppressive fire as he knows how to handle Automatics. His Stealth is low, but it's there somewhere=)
First question: what is Al Longman's Connections Rating?
-
I'll play Loki, then. I think two honorable fighters would be a little much, and Seijin is a little too much of a one-trick pony for him to be useful in most other activities than combat. Editing my first post to reflect this.
Elek, sounds good!
-

Thanks. I actually liked your Seijin concept. Why not play two different honorable warriors? Playing up their differences might highlight everything unique about each one. Hachiman and Bushido set a different code of honour than the law of the underworld and Ponyatiya.
-
I'd rather play Loki simply because I'd like to play a more black trenchcoat kind of game, and that becomes more difficult if two of three/four characters are combat orient (and in the case of Seijin, not much else :) ). I like Seijin too, but I also really like Loki as a concept, and we'll need a face of some sort. While Loki, like Seijin and presumably Error by the sound of it, doesn't have much sneaking ability in terms of Stealth, he is a master manipulator and a social chameleon. With Error acting as a bodyguard (and with some manipulation magic to help with disguises), I can see Loki and Error meshing really well together, and Error's "honorableness", for lack of a better term, sounds consistent with what Loki would want to act like.
Depending on what Trisk chooses to play, we could also have some serious backup in terms of tech, or a good healer on our side.
-
Fair enough =)
-
One potential hilarity could ensure if Loki finds out Error has any affiliation with the Vory, because Loki had to leave Portland after he messed with them too much :D
Basically, Loki is not a fan of the slave trade, and the Vory are about the only syndicate to really have any major operations in Cara'Sir, at least recently according to the canon.
-
Oh, I can't wait to see that happen!
-
I updated the character sheet with a few tweaks; realized I didn't really need Pilot Groundcraft, and Loki is unlikely to ever have received drivers training anyway. Shifted 2 points of Karma to more ¥ so I could afford Insulation upgrade on the Lined Coat, a Rating 6 Respirator, Force 2 Lodge Materials (already "assembled" as a Force 2 Shamanistic Lodge if allowed by GM), the full range of Securetech PPP armor kits from Run & Gun for 3 more armor, a set of contacts (rating 2) with image link and vision magnification.
Also swapped the spell focus for a spirit focus, as it just made more sense from the background story.
[EDIT]
So, for the character to transition from Portland to Winnipeg I'd like to elaborate a little on the background story.
I think it would be cool if Loki made it out of the Tir while working for Dawn (his own Fixer contact), essentially tasked with transporting some sort of item or information to Al Longman. The Yakuza, through a deal brokered with Hiroko Matsumoto by Dawn and/or Alessia Thorne, would have either have had a hand in the transaction itself or just assisted by providing Loki with his first ever experience of t-bird transportation. Having flown through various shady little towns, landing to pick up fuel and drop off other passenger, the craft would have landed on the outskirts of the smuggler town on the northern UCAS border. Loki stepped off the rear ramp of the vehicle with nothing but a survival kit on his back full of his meager belongings, a sturdy winter coat and every other piece of clothing he owns on him, a locked briefcase, and directions to The Neighborhood Cafe, would lay low in Winnipeg for a while.
Omnibobatron, what do you think? Does that work as a reason for why Loki would be in town for you?
Also, second question; Do you have a preference for dice rollers? I like Orokos, myself.
-
I'm pretty much open on either side. Candlekey was going to be a bit more facey, while Angel wasn't so much, as she tends to keep hidden.
But as we have a mage and face, I think I'll go with Angel. Though if anyone else wants to join, I hope they're not afraid to play a decker just because i'm a technomancer, as well, IMO, Technomancers are less of a hacker and more of a support role. I can do some of the hacking in a pinch or if there is no one else around for that.

My current build so far for Angel.

Of course, as long as you understand that I do not have this book, and you will have to specify the rules (pretty much exactly like you did here).
:)
(already "assembled" as a Force 2 Shamanistic Lodge if allowed by GM)
Sure :)
Also, your background is great like that. I was going to ask you guys if you had a preference for dice rollers. Orokos is fine by me if everyone else is ok with it.
@Everyone,
I'm sorry if im forgetting something, but my cat just threw up on my lap. Let me know what I'm missing, or ask any questions in the meantime. Character sheet links are greatly appreciated!

Cool as cool, Omnibobatron!
Elek asked this question, which I second.
First question: what is Al Longman's Connections Rating?
-
First question: what is Al Longman's Connections Rating?
Sorry I somehow missed this! His connection is 4, and I'll even let you have him at L1C4 for free (although if you want his loyalty higher you have to spend the karma)
-
Is it just us three? Cause if we're not getting a decker, I might have to change to one of my other designs of Technomancer. Matrix Ninja sounds pretty good, not great against hosts though but wonderful against devices.
-
Another question: is it OK to use Run&Gun? Error is built around the martial arts from that book, although I can rebuild him - we have the technology =)
-
Omnibobatron did say he wanted to keep it to 3 or 4 players, but I hope we're adding a fourth to broaden the range of skills available.
Elek
Loki uses a few pieces of armor from Run & Gun; correct me if I'm wrong, Omnibobatron, but I figured your stance on stuff from Stolen Souls would extend to stuff from other books.
For our reference; which books DO you have? :D
[EDIT]
And just in case you don't have Run & Gun, this is what Securetech PPP armor and the ballistic mask is described as. I've included the stat blocks as a screenshot.
Not a suit in itself, this innovative little AAS, or Armor Augmentation System, is hot for those who like to be able to add a little extra protection to almost anything. Arm, Leg, and Vitals kits are each sold separately, and they augment the protective measures already in place on those areas. The pieces are designed to be taken on and off quickly and worn over existing clothing.
By far my best seller, especially the basic model. They come in a variety of custom moldings and paint jobs to get almost any look imaginable, but matte black classic sells the best. They have limits when they’re basic models to keep them functional, but once electronic vision systems are added, the possibilities are endless. Ballistic masks can take vision enhancements as well as any modification a helmet can take.
Custom jobs are, naturally, more expensive.
-
All published books are fine, as long as you know I don't have them, and you may be asked to provide references. Also, Ill see about a fourth person :)
-
4th person? :)
-
I could do a decker, im pretty familiar w/ them from 2 other games :) give me 4h and ill sub it it to your aproval.
-
Hi folks!
Just got the word from the captain that im IN! :D
The character im wanting to play is kindof a noob, but i freakin LOVE him. hermetic aspected summoner with a TINY bit of chrome and a rotodrone with an AK. Horrible in a fight and easy to kill, he balances that out by having good backup and being the luckiest sumbitch he's ever heard of. His heart is in the right place and he knows he's out of his league in most situations he's in. His street name is Hopeless. He kinda doesn't like that name, but tough shit.
I've also got an adept; an ork raised by elves and taught the ways of the sword. he's kinda boring i think, but if the group needs a melee guy, i can make him fun. I also kinda like this disgraced troll doctor i made, barred from practicing medicine over a drug conviction, and trying to use his rather impressive but limited skills to earn a living in the shadows. Thinking he might end up a decker after a WHILE, just cause he has high mental stats and already has most of the chrome a decker would end up buying leftover from his doctorin days.
of these three, i'd prefer Hopeless, but i follow the edict "game uber alles" meaning i dont wanna let my own petty bullshit stand in the way of a good game, so which of these three would YALL prefer i play?
-
After reading the thread, i can see the group needs a decker.
i'm willing to do it (game uber alles), but i should provide fair warning that matrix is where my weakpoint in the rules lies and i might be a bit slow at times.
if yall want, i can whip up a decker/technomancer at some point today.
-
Personally, I like the idea of having a doctor in the group; I don't have heal or first aid, not sure about the others, but a character with high logic could be highly useful.
I think Celtibero is doing a decker, no?
martinchaen - Loki, male Elf Manipulation Magician/Face
Triskavanski - Angel, female [metatype] Technomancer/Support
Elektrycerze3 - Error, male Ork street samurai
Celtibero - decker?
Poindexter - ?
-
i was changing ideas with trisk, at 1st i was thinking about doing a communist/revolutionary character, Trisk character will have Russian nationality, thus i occurred to me (i would still need to juggle it with Trisk) that they could both be sleeper agents (providing a reason to be where they are and giving the GM plenty opportunities to add stuff into the game later if he wants). Both could be secret service (KGB or whatever it is called in 2075). Leonid would be deeply imbued with communist beliefs, and a fervent idea that the great mother Russia will once again be the strongest power in the world, Socialism is not dead, it will only require a new revolution for it to triumph, and so on.
As it is its just a concept, i have not delved too much into the back story just yet, but that would only be a matter of starting to write it.
So, what do you guys think and what does the GM think?
-
I'll be honest; I have no idea what you're talking about, Celtibero :D
-
Hey, i don't know as much as i should about canada, especially in the 2070's, so could someone lemme know what languages are prevalent up there? I assume english and maybe french?
-
French is mostly a Quebec thing, w/ canada and what was left of the old USA forming the UCAS i believe that English is the primary Language by far.
-
Angel, aka Kira Triskavanski, would end up mostly staying home, providing assistance through VR in the form of leadership tests with Leonid as her "handler". (Which basically means he would be her meatside face)
-
Since Winnipeg borders the Algonkian-Manitou Council, it's reasonable to expect that Iroquois and Algonkian are somewhat widespread. Other than that, English is a sure bet, while French is more of a Quebec thing and even then it'd be Quebecian dialect (?) French, not France French, I believe. It's also not too far from Sioux territory, so Sioux is another possibility.
-
if leonid is in meatspace and angel is in VR, wouldnt that make angel leonids handler, rather than the other way around?
-
I'm still not sure what kind of character Leonid is, though.
So far, we have a Face/Magician (very narrow direct combat focus, though), a brawler/street sam, and a support technomancer.
We're missing the traditional B&E expert, a decker, aaand... that's it, I think?
-
oh yeah, in addition to the three i listed earlier, ive also got a troll who used to be a bodyguard for a high profile pop singer. Fulla skillwires.
-
My vote is for the Doc, Poindexter
-
Well, I suppose so.
Mostly, I'm talking about how its hard to trust someone who's only really got a VR presence, and never really puts herself in much danger. Even so, she does what she can to guide her crew to success.
-
My vote is for the Doc, Poindexter
Then im gonna go with the doc, unless someone else has an opinion.
I'll give it a couple hours just in case.
-
Honestly, you should go with whatever the hell you feel like playing. Forget what anyone thinks (except the GM, maybe listen to the GM :) ), play what makes you happy. So what if there's five mages in the party; up to the GM to deal with it.
So far we've got the basics covered (though we're a little lacking in the Matrix department), so just play what you feel strongest about.
-
all of this is nice and spiffy but truth is my presence here and the character concept being accepted rely solely on the GM approval as i am not wanting to take another person place nor step in anyones toes :)
Poindexter was here fist, thus i think martin is more than correct, if Poindexter wants to run a decker i will more than hapilly step down on my proposal :)
as for Vladimir Leonid Ullianov concept made short:
- Russian MVD agent (sleeper agent type)
- ex- Red Army officer
- Firm believer that International Socialism will once rise again with Mother Russia at its helm
- Born in St. Petersrburg (Although Leonid refers to it as Leningrad)
archetype: Decker (although the guy can act as combat decker)
ill finish the sheet in about 1h or so and start adding some background.
PS: me working on this concept amounts to no pressure on the GM, i find it interesting to develop one more character even if its just for the sake of iteself, if the esteemed GM wants me in the better :) if not, i understand completely ;)
-
id rather not run a decker, to be honest.
-
I just realized i did some very basic, stupid things wrong when building the doctor, such as forgetting the troll tax, and that alphaware increases availability, so i have to do a few things different. I'll have him fixed and ready to post by the end of the day.
-
ok, so i basically re-did him from the ground up and i like version 2 a LOT better
I'm actually torn between the doc and Hopeless.
the only vote so far seems to be for the doc, so im gonna go with him.
-

been giving the char some thought maybe drop the elf thingy... more inclined to Human and maybe basing the concept on Arkady Bogdanov type of person ("Red Mars" book character)
I´ll wait on some feedback from the GM :)

@Everyone, Is everyone decided on Characters? We have five players now, so we are going to have to work together to make this go smoothly :)
-
yeah, should i post the character, or send it to you?
if you'd like me to post it here, i'd like to leave a few things off for public viewing and send them to you.
-
Yep, I'll play Loki.
-
I'm gonna play Jellybean (Troll doctor)
-
http://cdn.shadowruntabletop.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/E-CAT26S041_Sail-Away-Sweet-Sister-Stats.pdf?4713c7
That might be helpful for you Poindexter, as there is a medical mentor spirit in there
-
ill take a look at it, but this guy is a mundane.
-

Very good question. If everyone could message me with their character sheets do I can archive them easier that would be great :)
-
Wait, should I have voiced my interest in playing here, rather than the recruitment thread? I'm confused.
-
Wait, should I have voiced my interest in playing here, rather than the recruitment thread? I'm confused.
no, you did it right.
i don't think the OP mentioned in the recruitment thread who was in and who wasn't.

no, you did it right.
i don't think the OP mentioned in the recruitment thread who was in and who wasn't.
That's what I figured, but then I saw Celtibero, and was confused, as it seemed like he was in, despite not being in the recruitment thread.
-
Like i said, not wanting to step on anyones toes, it seems you are correct, i did offer my services (decker) in the OOC thread and did wait for the GM "ruling", however and seeing you where 1st in the recruitment thread i will gladly step down if you or the GM wish so ;)
-
Technically you are not supposed to comment on an OOC thread or IC thread unless youve been invited to, but we needed a decker so I just rolled with it. I'm glad that Celtibero is willing to step down, but I will leave it up to ve4grm. You to can talk about it (please not in this thread, pm each other) and get back to us.
-
I'm still kindof new to the forums, but from what little i've seen, i can vouch for celtibero. he/she is cool as far as i know.
Also, i just sent ya Jellybean.
I did a detailed karma breakdown, but not a money breakdown. by the time i thought to do one, i was already so far along, and i just figured, "Fuckit, i know i did it right. hopefully, they'll trust me."
but if you'd like me to go back and retrace my steps, the error WAS mine, so im willing to.
lemme know.

Shouldn't be difficult to go over your gear and stat the costs, Poindexter :-)
-
Shouldn't be difficult to go over your gear and stat the costs, Poindexter :-)
except for the troll tax. :-[
-
Wait, what? You do know that the troll tax is only applied to lifestyle costs, right? The 100% equipment cost has been officially errata'd, and even with if it hadn't it sically just means x2 cost for everything; n it exactly rocket science, but fortunately for you you don't have to deal with it :-D
-

no.
i did not know anything about such an errata.
not only that, but ive been doing 150% equipment costs, not 200%.
oh dear.
I've gotta go re-do this guy again.
shitshitshit.
-
no i dont.
i just have to re-do the math on his equipment and then spend the excess on more medical supplies or something.
this isn't as big a deal as i first thought.
-
Hehe, you should have a good chunk of change left over then...
-
Hehe, you should have a good chunk of change left over then...
31,500 JUST off the cerebral boosters.
i feel like its freakin CHRISTMAS!
-
ok, all done.
-
Is it cool if i have a ballistic mask styled to look like Gordon Freeman?
I figure it's 2070something, so half life 3 is PROBABLY out by now.
-
Celtibero has confirmed over PM that he will step back to allow me space in the game. I thank him for that, as Winnipeg is my hometown, so I was excited to have the chance to game in it.
Sound good, Omnibobatron?
I'm writing up a decker, ex-Ares spider with a corp-born SIN. Burned by Ares when a supervisor scapegoated him for a shadowrun that ended up stealing some very sensitive data. Luckily, as a decker, he had some small ties to the shadows already. He currently operates out of northern St. Boniface, the seedier part of that otherwise nice area, where he has a condo with enough roof space to keep his drones.

Well, that changes a few things for Angel then. She's still russian, but she has no one meat space wise currently to be her physical "face". So she'll be working through the matrix again as the secret guardian angel for the team.

Is it cool if i have a ballistic mask styled to look like Gordon Freeman?
I figure it's 2070something, so half life 3 is PROBABLY out by now.
Ahahahahaha, Valve-burn!
Loki will have a ballistic mask like the attached...

Hmm? I thought you were playing Candlekey, unless there was no Decker. If we already have a technomancer, should I rewrite not as a decker?

.
Earlier, someone was asking about languages. Winnipeg has one of the largest french-speaking communities in Canada, outside of Quebec, so french would definitely be a thing. We also have a large Ukranian population, which would probably carry the language forward somewhat. The local native languages are also good choices, as is German and Chinese.
Personally, I took English, French, Ukranian, and Algonkian.
-
No, I'm playing a Technomancer. But I'm not a hacker. Thats where a decker is needed. You've got stuff I can't really do.

dammit.
now that we've heard from a local, i need to go re-add french to my character sheet.

Let us know if you want us to look over your character sheet, Poindexter.
Ve4grm,
You might want to update your sheet to reflect your actual movement, which is 6/12, not 12/24 (AGI6 arm, AGI3 base). Same with Lift, at least in some/most cases.
Looks like you're one skill point over, as I count 37/5 instead of 36/5. You should also have 2 knowledge skill points remaining, as your (LOG+INT) * 2 is 20, not 18.
I'm also not sure where you got your Augmented CHA 18; you've also spent 18 karma on Contacts, but with CHA 2 you only have 6 points to spend.
As a GM, I'd want to see how you spent your karma, which isn't really clear to me, at least.
-

i think he's good. i just need to switch around some language points.

Sorry, I will clarify:
Skill points, I spent 36/5 (remember to count the specialization), and then 6 karma for Armourer 2
The "Augmented CHA" was actually just a subtotal I was using to make sure I spent the right amount on abilities (I spent 16 points, then used 20 karma to bring Cha and Body to 2 each).
The 18 points in contacts is: The free fixer contact we all got, 6 free points for the ER surgeon, and then 7 karma spent for the decker.
My total karma itemizes as follows:
25 free
+25 Corp Born SIN
-------------------------
50 available
-10 Codeslinger
-10 Body 2
-10 Cha 2
-7 Decker Contact
-6 Armourer 2
-7 money
-------------------------
50 spent
EDIT: you're right about knowledge skills. I adjusted my intuition after I spent the points, so I'll spend the extra 2
-
Cool :D
-

i forgot about him/her. need to add that.
EDIT: you're right about knowledge skills. I adjusted my intuition after I spent the points, so I'll spend the extra 2
oh YEAH!!! that means ive got 4 more points to spend on knowledges as well. Probably just dump it all into french, so that fixes that.
-
Hehehe, like I said, Poindexter, might be good to have someone else take a look, check if you might have missed out on something else.
We've already gotten you a bunch of cash and some free karma ;)

good point.
When i get home, i will post an edited version of him, leaving off the sensitive stuff.

Sensitive stuff?
y'know, the things Jelly doesn't like people knowing about him.
-
Just realized we have nobody with healing, so I swapped Armourer for First Aid. I'll take a look at medical supplies and buy a few in a bit.
-
Uh, Poindexter plays a Troll Doc, I believe.
-
its nearly the only thing Jelly is good at.
-
y'know, the things Jelly doesn't like people knowing about him.
Oh, yeah, no worries. I try not to metagame, and lets face it, my character is unlikely to know your Doctor much.
That being said; Omnibobatron, would you like us to form some sort of background ties or are we going with the "You have a common contact who gathered you for a job" deal?
If we're going for the former, Loki enjoys night/dance clubs, trivia nights at the local pub (he's got a penchant for Nordic Mythology), and discussion centered around current affairs (he likes keeping in the know of what's happening in the world, both globally and locally). As he's just arrived in Winnipeg, he would only have a tenuous relationship with anyone not from Cara'Sir, Tir Tairngire (aka Portland, Oregon), and as he grew up on the streets it's unlikely that he'd know anyone who were well to do (unless they also happened to run a soup kitchen :) ).
If Error does have Vory contacts, I think it's entirely possible that Error might have heard a rumour about a trickster type character in Cara'Sir messing around with Vory operations there, including the culmination of said campaign where a warehouse of drugs was burned to the ground, as well as the ensuing firefight where the mysterious character evaded capture through almost supernatural means (i.e. between a few spirits and himself he managed to mess with the minds of his enemies enough to where he got out alive, at least).
I don't really know enough about Angel, Jellybean, and Brink to form any sort of connection with them; if Angel is indeed as Matrix bound as she seems to be, it's unlikely that Loki and Angel would have crossed paths at all.
Updated character list, then:
martinchaen - Loki, Elf Male, Manipulation Magician/Face
Triskavanski - Angel, Human Female, Support Technomancer
Elektrycerze3 - Error, Ork Male, Brawler/Street Samurai
Ve4grm - Brink, Human Male, Decker
Poindexter - Jellybean, Troll Male, Doctor/?
I'm really liking the group compisition; only two humans, and one each of Elf, Ork, and Troll. Cool as cool!
-
its nearly the only thing Jelly is good at.
Uh, Poindexter plays a Troll Doc, I believe.
Whoops, missed that, apparently. I was going off an earlier post, I think. Changing back.
Brink is also a competent driver, and not a bad shot.
Fair warning, my internet will be mediocre for the next couple days. I'll still be able to check in, but not super often.
-
i WAS at first gonna play a different character.
But i like Jellybean just as much as Hopeless and the group actually NEEDED a doc, so i switched.
-

Ok, so for people to decide on relationships:
Brink was Ares, corporate born, has lived in Winnipeg for pretty much his entire life. (Spent a little time in the Algonquin territories.) He liked his job, at least as much as anyone liked being owned by a corp. Even applied to be a support decker for Firewatch, and was almost in when the drek hit the fan.
He was sacrificed for bureaucracy and PR reasons a few years back. Runners hit the Ares lab in the old Mint building, got away with financial encryption tech worth trillions. Someone needed to take the blame, and it was Jacob.
Since then, he's been largely living off his savings, building up a minor name in the shadow communities in order to get some respectable jobs. He just recently transitioned to using his fake SIN full time.
He lives in northern St. Boniface, the french quarter of the city. It's a fairly nice area, but the north is still pretty seedy. It's about as close as you can get to the downtown core while still having a river between you and the core.
It's also relatively close to the Ares Macrotech Arena (# 023, as they have a few), where the Ares Predators play Ork Rules Hockey. He may have a grudge against Ares, but he'll never give up on his team.
-
Need is a strong word. :P
For Angel, aye, She's pretty much matrix only presence until we can score enough karma that I can increase her physical stats enough that she can go outside without dieing to an icicle. She may.. or may not end up getting a couple of safehouses for the team though.
If you're a techie, and work in Winnipeg, there is a good chance she has appeared to you once in a while.

Poindexter
You can drop the two knowledge skills for Medicine and Chemistry; you have both of those as Active skills, and Active skills can substitute for Knowledge skills.
Reflex recorders can only be taken for "skills linked to a Physical attribute", unfortunately, so Medicine doesn't work in this case.
You know you won't get the benefit of an Armor Jacket and an Armor Vest at the same time, right? Just making sure :)
Finally, even with a high LOG I'd be very, very hesitant about taking Kamikaze as a drug; as it's Physiological, you resist with BOD 6 + WIL 2. This is kind of up to the GM, too, as the rules are kinda wonky on when you have to resist addiction. Again, totally up to you, but I'd consider other substances (or none at all ;) ).

Right. Just wanted to make sure i had something to wear beneath clothing if the wardrobe doesn't happen to work with a giant ass armor jacket. i DO get the +2 from the mask with either though, right?

The kamikaze in the tooth is strictly for an emergency "fight or die" situation. Jelly is utterly terrified of having to break open that tooth.

thats interesting. Hypothetical question.
Say i have the active skill "auto mechanic" can i use this to substitute for the knowledge skill "interest: cars"?
-
Poindexter
Logic based skills can be augmented with Cerebral Boosters (which you already have). For Intuition and Willpower, you're pretty much out of luck for now. Charisma has Tailored Pheromones.
There's no direct equivalent for Reflex Recorders as of yet, sadly.
A skilljack and skillwires will not work as a booster to a skill you already have, unfortunately; instead, they can functionally replace a skill you already have, or more appropriately, stand in for a skill you don't have. They get really expensive really fast, however.
Cool, just checking on the Armor; and yes, the +2 from the mask applies as long as you wear it :)
Good thinking on the Kamikaze. Better (possibly) addicted and alive, than just plain old dead...
While I would allow Automotive Mechanic to be used for some knowledge skills surrounding cars, there's a potentially big difference between being a mechanic (who could know a lot about how a car functions) and being a car enthusiast (who could know every detail about a specific model or models, for instance). This is technically left up to the GM, but traditionally I don't see an issue with having an Active Skill substitute for a lot of knowledge skill tests.
-

Good point on Ojibwe. I'll change my Algonkian to that.

Hoi again!
I have finally finished Error. I had to tune him down a bit, since my first build of him was essentially an exercise in using martial arts.
Please do mind that he is not optimized: I had to incorporate some flaws to make him more fun to play.
Some explanation/questions:
1) He is using the following combination of Martial Arts from Run&Gun:
- Hammerfist = reduces the Called Shot penalty by 1 for Called Shot (Blast Out of Hands);
- Jiao Di = reduces the Called Shot penalty by 1 for Called Shot (Knock Down);
- Kick = provides +1 Reach to basic Unarmed Combat Actions;
- Knucklebreaker = may choose to inflict Stun damage as if it was a normal melee attack when making a Called Shot (Blast Out of Hands);
- Sweep = may choose to inflict Stun damage as if it were a normal melee attack, when making a Knockdown.
The description of Kick doesn't explain what are "basic Unarmed Combat actions". The maneuvers above are not actions at all, but are variations on the Called Shot rules. So I'd like to hear if our GM would allow to use Kick with Called Shots.
2) Error has no Initiative-boosting ware. That is because he was a professional fighter-entertainer - the audience needed to see him do cool stuff. He will rely heavily on drugs and might get addicted.
3) Error has four cyberlimbs, but no weapons installed in them. Will "cyber implants" specialization work for his unarmed attacks with his limbs?
4) Error has a specialization in Performance - Showing off. What I implied is the show that professional wrestlers pull off before, during and after matches. How they work with the audience and show-off for the cameras. Is such a spec. OK?
5) I have a few holes in Error's equipment. For example, he doesn't have any additional protection in his armor. That is intentional and reflects the fact that he is a relative newbie on the shadow scene.
6) Error also has an Agile Defender Quality from R&G. It allows him to use Agility instead of Willpower when doing Total Defense. Is it OK?
7) Error has a Distinctive Style N. Quality. It reflects the fact that he is quite recognizable as a professional fighter. Is it OK?
8) Error has a Prejudice (technomancers) N. Quality. Is it OK with everyone?
9) Our free contact is not listed in the sheet.
10) The personal info (height, weight and stuff) is just a filler. I simply forgot about that tab in Hero Lab :-X
If anybody has questions or suggestions - fire at will =)
-
Looks good, Elek! I like that he isn't too optimized, actually; Loki is the same way.
For the GMs benefit, I'd like to comment on some things:
1. Sweep is awesome :)
I would personally not allow Kick to be used with other Martial Arts techniques, but I would allow it to be used with called shots as I consider martial art techniques to not be "basic" attacks, while a called shot is "merely" a "basic" attack targeting a specific location or something similar. Also, you've GOT to do a THIS IS SPARTA kick at some point :)
2. I'd suggest you talk the Addiction rules over with the GM in this case; it's highly subjective how these actually work, and if you're going to be a druggie it'd be better to know up front.
3. I'd say a regular unarmed specialization would apply instead of cyber implants; note that you can actually specialize in Unarmed Combat (Specific Martial Arts Style) in addition to taking the Style at character generation, granting +2 dice to actions using techniques from the style you've specialized in. I would heavily recommend this.
I do have to note that there is a cap on how many styles you can know from character generation of 1, though. This is stated on page 128:
"You can only buy one style at character creation." I think you might have three (Tae Kwan Do, The Cowboy Way, and Wrestling); unfortunately, I don't see a way around this limitation as you've chosen techniques that aren't very common amongst the styles.
Personally, I would recommend dropping the focus on Blast Out Of Hands (let's face it, MMA fighters would have been fighting other unarmed opponents anyway) and keep the Kick and Sweep techniques from either Bartitsu, Capoeira, or Tae Kwon Do, and then take other techniques that support those two moves.
Again, personally I would go for Tae Kwan Do as a technique and with a Specialization of Unarmed Combat (Tae Kwan Do); Counterstrike can be awesome if you manage to get another initiative dice; any time you have initiative 18 or more, you can use the interrupt action to essentially attack 3 times instead of 2, in addition to not getting hit in the first place. With your high Unarmed Attack skill Opposing Force (Block) is a really attractive option as it makes you all that much harder to hit and can be used with Pre-Emptive Block, allowing you to free up some Karma from Agile Defender. Flying kick is also pretty showy and suits your description of the character, and since you do have low initiative Kip-up could be highly useful if you end up going down on the ground at some point.
Tae Kwan Do, therefore, has 5/6 useful techniques to your character concept, more than any other that I can think of.
4. I would say that "Showing Off" could be replaced with "Showmanship", "Theatricals", "Swagger/Posing" or something similar, but that's just me being grammatically pedantic :)
5. Sounds good to me. Just keep in mind that an Ares Alpha is highly illegal and almost impossible to conceal.
I also noticed you've got both a helmet and a ballistic mask; traditionally, I would not allow these to stack simply because the two pieces overlap and couldn't easily be worn. Up to the GM, but I would only allow it to stack as a single Full helmet, if at all.
6. See 4 above; I would personally go with Pre-Emptive Block and get your character running into combat as soon as possible; not only will you get the charge bonus, but the opponent you are fighting take a negative penalty to shoot you because of running and being in close combat, and all his friends will too.
Essentially, this means that in a turn where you are running (or sprinting), opponents not in close combat with you get -2 from running and -3 from you being in close combat, while you take a -3 to defend for being in melee. However, in exchange you get to use your Unarmed Combat skill +1 for the Opposing Force technique, and +2 for specialization for a total of +9 dice to defend against melee attacks while only using -5 initiative, with a downside of not getting to use this against ranged attacks.
7. You'll have to come up with some sort of distinctive look that sets him apart even in a crowd; the negative quality specifies that he's got to have some sort of visible features that cannot be easily covered up. He could be really big, have some facial scars and/or tattoos that really stand out in a crowd, for instance. Or, his cyberlimbs could be unique enough that they'd be easily recognizable.
This can be a difficult negative quality to incorporate, and as a GM I wouldn't allow anything you can easily cover with clothing.
8. Good with me, I'm not the technomancer and we're unlikely to know that Angel is :)
Other than that, like I said I really like the character concept. I think Loki and Error has some really complementary skills, with Loki being able to confuse the enemy and mess with ranged attackers while Error bounces from person to person and knocks them down.
-
maybe he always wears a luchadora mask?
-
Maybe, but that kind of mask isn't exactly bulletproof ;)
-
Can't comment in full now. I knew I'd miss something, so here it is with one style at character creation. I have some number-crunching to do. Thanks for pointing that out.
-
Maybe, but that kind of mask isn't exactly bulletproof ;)
In our world it isn't. In Shadowrun, you can wear a shawl that is bullet proof.
-
Up to the GM is all I'm saying.
If you allow Ballistic Masks to stack with Helmets, why would anyone ever by a regular non-Hardened helmet/full helmet unless they're going for chemical seal. In every case where a chemical seal isn't needed, a Ballistic Mask + Helmet combo gives +4 AV for a lot less than the Full Helmet, which in addition only gives +3 AV.
In addition, it would give you 14 Capacity to use for modifications, which again seems like overkill. To my mind, the mechanics have to represent game balance; if you want a bulletproof luchadora mask AND a helmet; fine, it costs the same as a full helmet, gives +3 AV like a full helmet, and has 8 capacity like a full helmet. Otherwise, you pick the Ballistic Mask OR the Helmet, and the respective AV and capacity ratings...
Again, my opinion only; up to the GM.
-
Honestly, the more books that come out with more pieces of armor, the more armor + would be available anyways.
-
i feel like you can wear both the mask and the helmet, the armor just dont stack. same as you can wear contacts and goggles to get more capacity, but they don't stack if you say, get 2 smartlinks.
up to the GM, yeah
-
@martinchaen
1. All my other techniques are simply modifications to Called Shots. At my table I don't allow it to stack with techniques which require a separate action. It's just a GM's call. I don't see anything broken about it, honestly.
2. Actual addiction rules at this table don't really matter to me: Error will be using drugs one way or another. But I have whipped up a graph showing one reading of addiction rules about six months ago. It has been brought up in this topic (http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=16349.msg288113#msg288113).
3. I don't really understand you. I just want to specialize in Cyber Implants, which is a basic specialization of Unarmed, listed in the book. So I would like our GM to clarify if such specialization would apply to attacks with cyberlimbs without additional implanted weapons. I know how MA specializations work, but I have them as a back-up plan.
Thanks for your advice. Although I would appreciate if you could refrain from giving such detailed advice: sometimes it's too much. Thank you =)
4. You must be right. I'm not a native speaker, so I'll change it to something you listed. We have a separate word for that in Russian, but I failed to find a fitting English translation for it =(
5. Yeah, thanks, I can read weapon codes and descriptions =P It's for those times when fecal matter makes contact with rotating blades =)
I don't really see a problem with stacking a helmet and a ballistic mask, but I can swap the helmet for snake socks for you =)) There are lots off accessories, which grant armor bonuses and not every one makes sense. But that's a game. So here I agree with Triskavanski =)
6. See 3 above =)
7. Or I can ask our GM if it's OK to have all the penalties from that N. Quality, but justify them differently. The book is not set in stone =) Additionally, Error wouldn't be able to cover up his fame and attitude (one can come up with ways to cover them up, but I just would like if the penalty applied all the time). So not a big deal mechanics-wise, but it works great for the concept.
Can't wait for the game to start =)
-
It's all good, Elek. Like I said, my comments were mostly intended for the GM seeing as how he's stated that he's new to the rules.
As a GM myself, I merely provided my point of view like I have with the other characters.
PS: I'm not a native English speaker myself; it's all good ;)
Also;
Maybe, but that kind of mask isn't exactly bulletproof ;)
In our world it isn't. In Shadowrun, you can wear a shawl that is bullet proof.
Not really; with only +2 AV, even a round from a Holdout Pistol is likely to rip right through that fabric on a direct hit. Same goes for most helmets, with the exception of Mil-Spec gear; they're more like modern day kevlar helmets, in that they're bullet resistant, not bullet proof. But that's just me being pedantic again :D
-
The moonlight armor from Zoe has a bullet blocking shawl, that probably makes up most of the armor value of that armor.

+1
By the way, are we on a tight schedule? If that's the case, I'll finish Error asap. I would love to tinker with him a bit, but I'm currently on a business trip, so that might take a day or two, sadly :-(
-
No idea on the schedule, to be honest.
And to be fair, the shawl that comes with every piece of Nightshade/Moonsilver is made out of "spidersilk ballistic cloth", and the whole ensemble costs 8,500¥. Just a TAD more than the 150¥ of a ballistic mask, wouldn't you say? :D

You have to pay for the look :-P
-
And the spidersilk, no doubt. ;)
Anyway, I'll try to recap any questions we have for our poor GM; I'll go through the last couple pages and summarize.
[EDIT]
Omnibobatron, here's some questions for you.
From Elek:
The description of Kick doesn't explain what are "basic Unarmed Combat actions". The maneuvers above are not actions at all, but are variations on the Called Shot rules. So I'd like to hear if our GM would allow to use Kick with Called Shots.
KICK ATTACK
Yeah, everyone can insert boot in opponent’s groin, but not everyone can level a kick to the sternum or raise their leg above their head and drop it like an axe without pulling something. From the traditional back, side, and reverse kicks to the axe kick, this is a staple of many martial arts. This technique provides +1 Reach to basic Unarmed Combat Actions. Multiple purchases of this technique cannot be combined to give more than a +1 Reach advantage.
From Elek:
Will the Unarmed Combat (Cyber Implants) specialization apply to cyberlimbs?
From Elek:
"Will you allow Performance (Showing Off/Showmanship) to apply where Error is playing to a crowd/audience/cameras?"
From Elek:
Will you allow Agile Defender from Run & Gun?
AGILE DEFENDER (–3 KARMA)
Speed kills, but quickness and agility can be the key to avoiding a speedy death. This quality allows the character to use their Agility in place of their Willpower attribute while using Full Defense.
From Elek:
Will you allow Prejudice (Technomancers)?
From Poindexter:
Will you allow a Ballistic Mask that looks like Gordon Freeman?
From Martin (that's me! :) )
Would you allow a helmet and a ballistic mask to stack?
From Martin:
How do you want to handle addiction tests?
Elek posted a link that explains the concept pretty well; http://forums.shadowruntabletop.com/index.php?topic=16349.msg288113#msg288113
From Martin:
Winnipeg is in the UCAS; are we using the standard Seattle, UCAS availability rules from the core book? I.e. what is Forbidden/Restricted and such?
From Martin/Elek:
How "distinctive" does Distinctive Style have to be?

Thank you for putting these together! I've been busy with life and havent had a lot of time, but should have more time now.
1) Within reason, yes you can use kick with called shots (ex, you can kick a gun out of someone's hand, but you cannot subdue someone with a kick)
2) I don't believe it would count unless you had something like spurs in your knucks
3) Yes, again within reason
4) Yes
5) No, because we have a techno in our group
6) Sure! haha
7) No, they wont stack, sorry!
8) That link looks like a great way to handle it :)
9) Yes, to keep it simple it will be standard ratings
10) Distinctive enough that if someone was paying attention they would be able to link two things together. (Ex, a mortician notices that two unrelated deaths both died from similar wrestling moves) but it doesn't have to be super obvious either.

Thank you, Omnibobatron! I will have a couple of new questions for you, when I have time to paste some stuff from R&G :-)
Although I can't wait with one:
Would you allow Weapon Personality from R&G?
Weapon personality (accessory): Does your gun need its own software complete with an artificial personality to provide information in a more chatty fashion instead of just providing numbers, crosshairs, and other similar data? Depends on how you function. If meta-to-meta interaction is how you prefer to get your information, you might want a weapon personality, which provides a metahuman-like interface so you can chat away. The guttural Neil the Ork Barbarian with its “scalped ‘em” grunt to tell you when you got a hit is especially popular.
It has availability of 8 and costs ¥250.
Although I want to use it in an unconventional way: Error has two sports commentators' voices in his head, which describe all his actions as if he still was on the arena. He misses the old days that much :-)
Would you allow to change it that way?
-
If you're a techie, and work in Winnipeg, there is a good chance she has appeared to you once in a while.
Random thoughts from 3 pages ago...
- So Angel and I would be aware of each other. Would I know she's a technomancer?
- Angel sounds like she'd play out a lot like Baron Samedi, from the Shadowrun Returns campaign. I don't mind this at all.
-
She probably wouldn't reveal she is a technomancer so easily. But she may allude to the idea that she could be a decker, free sprite, AI or yes also a Technomancer.

Yes. I've been debating on the kamikaze and the codeblock quality, but I'll allow it. You should be good to go :)

Any outstanding issues with Loki? If not, I am absolutely ready as well.

has anyone seen anything wrong with angel?

Fixed Error and changed a couple of things. I need GM's approval on a couple of things from R&G and one MP from Gun He(a)ven 3. Some of those things I attach as pics, some as text quotes. I know some gear has already been uploaded, like PPP, but for everyone's convenience I include all the nonstandard stuff in this post.

CUSTOM FIT
Items that are Custom Fit were measured for a specific person. They are specially designed for that person and don’t fit well on anyone else, therefore conferring none of the positive Social Limit adjustments to the character. When an item is Custom Fit, any changes to an individual’s Physical Attributes, whether through Karma advancement or augmentation (but not through magic), require the suit to be refit. The refit process requires an Armorer shop and an Armorer + Logic [Mental] (10, 1 hour) Extended Test. The owner can also use their Contacts to help them get the job done, requiring loss of the armor for one week and a payment of 25 percent of the initial armor cost.
NEWEST MODEL
These items are the most recent incarnations of their corporate creators. That means they lose a little more when purchased as Lightly Worn, namely a 20 percent loss of Armor Rating (round adjusted Rating up) when buying older models of the clothes.

I changed my Prejudice quality to Prejudice (Indians). Error generally equates Amerinds to Yakuts, who did to Russia what Amerinds did to the US. Since I find "Yakut" too specific and unlikely to surface in this game, I write it down as "Indians". Is it OK? If not, consider Error a Russian SINner.
Also I would like to have the following Quality from R&G:
ONE TRICK PONY (–7 KARMA)
You’ve watched the same action trid or chipped your way through the same simsense so many times you actually know how to do that really cool move the star always uses. This quality allows the character to choose one Martial Arts technique they can do without first learning the associated Martial Arts style.
Finally, here are Error's MA techniques:
COUNTERSTRIKE
(UNARMED COMBAT ONLY)
Interrupt Action (–7 Initiative Score)
Counterstrike allows the character to leverage the opponent’s force into an advantage, allowing the character to make a quick strike back. In place of the standard Defense Test, the character makes an Unarmed Combat + Reaction [Physical] Test against the opponent’s standard Attack Test. If the defender achieves more hits than the attacker, the defender successfully avoided the attacker’s strike while returning and landing a strike of their own. The defender’s counterstrike attack has a Damage Value equal to the defending character’s standard Unarmed DV + net hits. The damage is resisted by a standard Damage Resistance Test. If the defender does not achieve more hits, then he must make a Damage Resistance Test against the damage of the attacker’s strike as normal. Note that use of this action requires Martial Art training.
RANDORI
This is a freestyle technique of sparring by using any means necessary. While variations are incorporated into martial arts such as Judo and Aikido, the generic technique includes eye gouging and other less than friendly holds and attacks. Reduce Called Shot penalty by 1 for Called Shot (Dirty Trick), reduce the Called Shot penalty by 1 for Called Shot (Vitals), or reduce the Called Shot penalty by 1 for Called Shot (Specific Location (Eye)). Characters only receive one of these benefits, as listed with the martial art style they select.
YIELDING FORCE
Opposite of Opposing Force, Yielding Force is the practice of using the opponent’s force against him. It provides +1 die to Riposte, +1 die to Counter Strike, or +1 die to Throw (including both the Throw Person and Sacrificial Throw actions). Characters only receive one of these bonuses, as indicated in their particular Martial Art style.
SWEEP (CLOSE COMBAT ONLY)
Martial Art techniques allow more control over how the opponent falls when the character knocks him off his feet (Knockdown, p. 194, SR5). He may choose to inflict damage as if it were a normal melee attack.
Damage type from a sweep is always Stun.
Hope everything is OK this time =)
-
Looks like you might have taken Yielding Force twice according to the character sheet, everything else looks good to me. :)
-
Pretty sure Brink is good to go. I added insulation to his jacket, because -40 probably counts as cold damage. :)
-
Hehe, ve4grm, that's about what I did for Loki as well. Rating 4 Insulation, and a ballistic mask with flare compensation and a respirator; sucking down cold air is a bi***... I guess it's a good thing that Loki knows Ignite; never know when that particular spell might come in handy :D
-

i think im gonna go throw a respirator in my freeman mask before we get started, now that ya mention it.
There's just no damn good reason not to, really.

Im gonna stay in mah hous

Make sure you pay the gas/electricity bills. We wouldn't want our resident technomancer to freeze up on us! :D

Good point. Adding that to my helmet.
Also, just realized I have drones, and weapons, but no mounts. Time to downgrade to a C-N Jackrabbit.

Well, everything on angel should be done. If anyone notices any issues with it, please tell me ^^
-
I believe most if not all of you should be good to go, but for easy reference if you could message me a link to your character sheet (or just the character sheet) that would be great. We should be starting shortly :)

Hey Omnibobatron, any chance you can post the "cast" on the first post of this thread, so it is easier for all of us to reference each other?
Just a short summary, like so:
Player - Name of PC, Metatype, Gender, Approximate Age, primary role/secondary role
Mine would be something like this:
Martin - Loki, Elf, Male, 21, Face/(Manipulation) Magician/Social Infiltrator
Can't vouch exactly for the others (I'd encourage you all to post something like the above/correct the below), but I think this is somewhat accurate:
Elek - Error, Ork, Male, 25, Street Samurai/Physical Infiltrator?
Poindexter - Jellybean, Troll, Male, age unknown, Doctor/Street Samurai?
Elek - Error, Ork, Male, 22, Street Samurai/Physical Infiltrator
Poindexter- Jellybean, troll, male, 31, Doctor/Lookout/Backup Facepuncher
Trisk - Angel, Human, Female, 25, Support/?
ve4grm, Brink, Human, Male, 29, Decker/B&E/Driver
Looks like we've got a pretty young "20 somethings" group going; nice :)
And I'm glad Brink has a car, cause Loki just arrived in town on a T-bird and has no idea how to drive...
-
ve4grm, Brink, Human, Male, 29, Decker/B&E/Driver
I'd remove B&E. I'm ok at being stealthy, but that's about it. It's more for stakeouts, being stealthy while hacking, etc.
And I'm glad Brink has a car, cause Loki just arrived in town on a T-bird and has no idea how to drive...
I upgraded back to the Americar, too (at the cost of a month of lifestyle), so I have room for people.
-
You're the only one with B&E skills, though. Hardware is pretty much all you as far as I can tell, though Error can probably do some lockpicking.
-
Fair enough. I suppose Hardware is B&E as well.
Maybe I should buy a crowbar? :)
-
I'd go with Poindexter- Jellybean, troll, male, 31, Doctor/Lookout/Backup Facepuncher
-
Here is my files again.
Her high life style also is obscure, secure and has a work space involved.
-
oh yeah, and i've fleshed out my contacts, if ya wanna see em, maybe work them into the scenery better.
for example, i don't know who exactly the beat cop would work for here in winnipeg, nor do i know what go-gang Jackdaddy is in.
anyways, here they are:
-Joe Patagnia, Dwarf Mafia lieutenant L2C5
Ozones boss. This was the guy Jelly was workin for, even though neither of em knew it at the time. Only ever met once or twice, but Jelly kept his mouth shut about it in court before he even knew Joe would've killed him had he talked. Joe knows he can trust Jelly cause of that, but the feeling is not mutual. Joe is a brute who deals with all his problems through force or the threat thereof and he thinks Jelly is afraid of him, a fact that he kinda gets off on.
-Ozone, Human Smuggler L2C3
This fuckass is the reason jelly got busted. Nobody woulda ever looked at the pharmacy if they hadn't been lookin for the sloppy ass smuggling operations backdoor. turned out, jelly got caught up in the whirlwind and next thing he know, he had feds at his door. Ozone is a tough sumbitch, and despite being a dumb and obnoxious mohawk wearing white boy, he's not a rat and everyone knows it, so he's got a long future, even if not many close friends.
-Lizzy, Ork Bartender L3C2
She's nice, and she knows jelly is good people, so she chats with him from time to time. She's tall, blonde, and friendly, so she gets a lot of customers who tell her alot of things. She's married to a beat cop named Sam and has three kids, one of which is his.
-Sam Borden, Human Beat Cop L1C3
Sam is kindof a hard-ass, but he's got a heart of gold. Still believes in all that old "freedom and justice" "serve and protect" kinda bullshit, despite evidence to the contrary staring him in the face every day. He's only 24, but 6 years workin for KE, being married to an ork, raising 3 kids, and smoking a pack a day makes him look in his late 40's. He knows about jelly's past and doesn't trust him all the way.
-JackDaddy, Elf Go-ganger L1C1
This guy is funny as fuck. Runs with Terror Sqaud, a go-gang of about 20-25 members. Jelly actually saw this guy wreck his bike really bad on the highway, trying to impress him with some 110mph stoppie somethin or other. Several other cars were damaged and the bike was mangled, but this crazy fuck was still conscious. Begged Jelly to get him outta there before the cops came, so he did. During the 3 days he spent recovering at Jellys place, he never stopped telling funny stories and making jokes. Lots of chrome, lots of balls, lots of wit, not much brain. Just met this guy 2 weeks ago.
-Al Longman, ________ Fixer L1C4
bout to find out about this guy i spose.
-
oh yeah, and i've fleshed out my contacts, if ya wanna see em, maybe work them into the scenery better.
for example, i don't know who exactly the beat cop would work for here in winnipeg, nor do i know what go-gang Jackdaddy is in.
Omnibobatron mentioned in the intro post in this thread that the local cops were Knight Errant, with Long Arms being seen occasionally. So pick one, I guess?
As for go-gangs, he had said:
"Other than corporations, you can bet the Hell's Angels are still alive and thriving, but they are no longer the end-all be-all as other biker gangs have formed and are vieing for control of the streets."
so HA is probably a good choice. Winnipeg has a lot of long, straight highways extending in all directions, though, so go-gangs love this place.
-
Hells angels aint really a go gang though. they're a regular ol gang that happens to have a thing for motorcycles.
-
Sent.
Elek - Error, Ork, Male, 22, Street Samurai/Physical Infiltrator.
Please be advised that with the Sneak skill of two Error is a mediocre Infiltrator to say the least :-)
-
Who knows what Hells Angels of SR5 times have turned into :)
As for prominent go-gangs, I only know of some of the Seattle and Denver ones.
Seattle:
405 Hellhounds
Ancients (more of a street gang these days, but originally a go-gang)
Asphalt Devils
Blood Mountain Boys
Blood Rumblers
Chaos Brigade
Eye-Fivers
Lake Acids
Leather Devils
Red Hot Nukes (same as the Ancients, started out as a go-gang)
Red Rovers
The Spikes
Denver
Dambusters (more of a thrill gang according to the Season 2 Missions fluff, but then I never really knew the difference between a go-gang and a thrill gang)
Fronts
Ghostriders
Godz
The Aurora Angels
Zombies
So realistically, you could probably just come up with any old name. Looking at the map of Winnipeg, there's a bunch of roads you could pick a number from, and then just add something to make it sound cool, like:
The 59 Saints (59 runs near East Saint Paul)
The Wypers (Wyper Rd)
247 Kings (247 runs by Kingswood Golf and Country Club)
Blood Red River Boys (Red River Floodway runs past the south-eastern part of town, apparently.
And so on and so forth ;)
-
Or you could pick something from this list of actual Winnipeg gangs: http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/11/21/the-gangs-of-winnipeg
Some of those are larger than others. Some have sillier names than others. Pick what you like.
-
Nice find!

You just have to know where to look. :)
Also, I'm officially not in Winnipeg anymore, having spent the last two weeks reacquainting myself with the city. Back home, back to work. Whee.

Ok, I'm making this same post in all the PbP games I'm currently involved in.
Is this still happening?

It's been 2 weeks. I don't think it is.
Sorry, guys, but I can't do this at this schedule. My other PbP has been 20 days waiting on the GM as well. I think I have to step down from both of them.
I just can't do it.
